My blood pressure just went up to the sky...

Oh my... I couldn't be more amazed, just finishing 'The Final Country" left me with eyes wide open and a chill on my skin.

Everything in the plot seems to be weaving amongst a raw and dark finale, I think this episode is one of the very best in season 3, I don't want to write anymore about what happens in this one but I can tell you something I really loved and that took me by surprise totally, and it's not a total spoiler or anything, but...

...There is an espectacular easter egg, so freaking awesome.

Also, the ending in this episode left me so scared and wondering, I have no further words, really, just made me reaffirm the absolute genious in Nic Pizzolatto, all hail to that man.

Slow burn season that just keeps getting better

Warning: Spoilers
True Detective has returned to its roots. The acting could not be any better. The way they've been able to have 3 timelines is just amazing. My skin got goosebumps when they tied in season one during Hays' documentary interviews. Maybe the girl interviewing him is Julie? So many curves balls, like the first season. This show continues to impress. I'm excited for season 4. Hopefully it becomes a yearly show. Only downfall is that there are only 8 episodes per season.

Another brilliant episode that brings some answers and 10x more questions
salle-5030818 February 2019
Every time I think this season has hit a ceiling it just keeps raising the bar, it's like the Michael jordan of being an incredible television series. This episode continues the theme of giving some answers and closure to certain plot points while raising increasingly more questions to others. This episode takes it a step further however and slowly begins to reveal the grander powers at work behind this case. The cycling between the timelines continues to be expertly timed in a way that keeps you fascinated in both while not revealing all the cards in either (a method I always admired from season 1.) The cinematography and set design also continues to mesmerize in a way that so expertly, yet subconsciously, evokes the tones of lost hope and forgotten lands. Finally, this episode, much like the previous, ends in a bone chillingly suspenseful scene that begs for intrigue and answers that it won't disclose until the grand finale.

P.S. Throughout this entire season there have been various slight nods and hints to season 1, however this episode definitively linked the 1st and 3rd season in a way that almost felt like a mini climax!!! Finally we know that season 1 and 3 exist in the same world, and further more there was references to another case like the ones from s1 and s3 that took place in Nebraska! (Potential season 4???) Either way I'm incredibly excited to see what Pizzolatto has to offer for the future of True Detective!

Perfect closure to the '90s timeline and a hint of what's coming
prlinap18 February 2019
The third season of True Detective has been, until last episode, very stale and in a lot of ways forced. But this episode, not only managed to stand out, it is on par with episodes 4, 5 and 8 of season 1. By the way, how does one interpret the scene where Wayne is surrounded with nothing but darkness and a bit of light? (Twin Peaks vibes right here.) Is the reporter actually July? Why is the man in a black car still being in front of Wayne's house 35 years later? Is Wayne, maybe, just maybe, connected to the children kidnapping? Can't wait to find out in the finale. 5/5 Phenomenal

Very good setup for the finale. We got a lot of long awaited payoff this episode, and watching it unfold was very satisfying. It turned out to be one big conspiracy which I was hoping it would. The fact that they even managed to link it to season one was very rewarding. It's been a very methodical, well thought out season thus far and I'm hoping they stick the landing nicely. The barn scene was great and delivered a satisfying end to one of the monstrous criminals in this conspiracy. Even though we barely saw him, his first encounter with Wayne and Roland was clue enough that he was pretty off. The final scene with Hoyt was pretty frightening and delivered the perfect cliffhanger heading into the finale.

So finaly we get closer to the real suspects and the real true detectives lead us to that. Great acting and dark slow burning story. Masterpiece of television art.

Predicted most of the stuff in this episode though
kuarinofu18 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Even though this episode didn't give us much, as they all do, the finale is pretty obvious by now.

Hoyt's daughter lost her child and to help her cope with this they were paying out Lucy and O'Brien to "rent" Julie as a replacement daughter or something. Seems like Tom didn't know anything, at least for some time (and Julie was convinced that he knew by someone else). At some point they wanted to have Julie for good and they kidnapped her, the boy tried to protect her and was probably accidentally killed in the process. At some point Julie was released (she got more and more free roam through the building, as indicated by the maid) and she even contacted Hoyt on several occasions to get more money from the family. She called the hotline for one of these reasons, either because she thought that her father has sold her or because she wanted to protect him because she knew what happened to her mother after she called Harris James to extort the family and got killed in Vegas.

The one-eyed kidnapper was upset at Amelia because she presented the facts wrong in her book, since he was actually caring about Julie and only wanted good for her.

All that is left now is for Hays to remember how he lost Amelia and for his brain to completely collapse with all the timelines mixed.

Pink Castle and Black Cars
Pequod8820 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Another excellent episode that is quite satisfying, especially after the slow build that rewards those who pay close attention. Others have rightly remarked on the seamless flow between multiple time-lines. I will cut right to the close of episode 6. What does Tom Purcell see?

The Pink Castle is real. Is Julie still alive? If that was Julie in the security cam photo, and her calling in response to seeing Tom on TV, she has been a long term captive led to believe her father sold her into bondage. We know that Tom was caught the moment he entered the room. He was apparently taken (by force) to the tower (near where his son's body was discovered) and murdered.

If Julie was alive, was she killed after being discovered by Tom? Was she already dead? Preserved as a trophy for the sick "cult" that abducts children? A preserved fingertip could leave a print. It strikes me as highly unlikely that she is still alive. Tom could have been intentionally set up to appear guilty through a use of a young woman paid to "portray" Julie.

I expect we will go back down that hallway to the Pink Castle in the final episode. We will see what Tom saw. It will not be pleasant. The other thread to be tied up from the 1990 timeline is what took place during the black car ride. Whatever Wayne was told, he could not possibly share with Amelia, which ended their relationship.

Looking forward the finale of what has been a high caliber season of True Detective.

Blood Curdling

Warning: Spoilers
With the Harris James scene and the final scene with Wayne on the phone to Hoyt it's absolutely terrifying, the music, the direction and the (should be) award winning acting. Perfection.

Seeing the Big Picture
botrytis19 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Now that is something I really wanted to see, things connecting each other not just within a season but between them. Finally I understand why they always bring up child molestations themes every time. I really like where the whole series is going for; creating different stories with unique and separate events, but in the background deep they connect each other as they are in the same universe, and finally they are communicating with each other, they are not just lying there seaparately.

I was complaining about the previous episode, as it was bringing the ol' same ol' church being a bad place, whooo, big surprise... not. But now I understand they not bringing this theme AGAIN but STILL. As with a season there is no end to this BIG problem, they just closing a phase and stepping to the next one with the other season, with different, yet in a way same flavors, nontheless from different perspectives. I like this concept, it makes sense now. The whole franchise is about finding out what is this big corporation/cult or whatever behind all these things which spreads its influence all around the US and who knows outside of it too, and we learn about this through characters which were affected by this cult in any way during their lives. One thing is sure, this powerfull, above the law cult which runs within official departments, we see how it plays with these True Detectives in a way that they end up struggling with unorthodox methods to beat this enemy hiding behind the law.

Now with this episode had reached the level when we are not just talking about different seasons, but about the whole series. And that's a new milestone I really hoped I was getting from True Detective.

The Final Country

Warning: Spoilers
An intense episode for sure and finally some of the build throughout the season has been paying off.

The story is just not there, but the interaction between the two leads has been strong.

Confusing and tedious.
fredkay18 February 2019
After an initially good double first episode this season has become more annoyingly convoluted and confusing.I find the constant switching between years frustrating to the point of not caring anymore and time spent on padding it out with a lot of Mahershala Ali staring at stuff just pointless and a waste of an excellent actor. As there is now only one ep to go I shall stick with it.I suspect I know where the end leads after this ep but tbh don't care.A great pity as season one was totally amazing.Awful writing and Directing imo and a waste of a good cast.

Slowest show, anticlimactic
creator30118 February 2019
This show has failed to stimulate the public as its first season did, twice now. This series has been a slow crawl, revealing less than nothing each episode and essentially showing us how sad these cops are that they arent figuring anything out. Seriously 90 percent of the show is Mahershala staring at a picture on his evidence board or his wifes book. This formula of not giving out any interesting info until the last episode has gotten stale and Im only watching to not be a quitter at this point. What the hell has happened to storytelling?

The Ending Had Better Be Good!
dougmacdonaldburr21 February 2019
The last episode of this season had better be incredible or I will be furious. Season 3 has been such a slow build and there are still so many questions left to answer. If the final episode does not deliver it will be extremely disappointing. I probably will not even watch Season 4. I'm not confident that they can tie it all up in one more episode, but, I hope they do.

I thought we broke a record with the most boring episodes last two week but guess what, it's getting more annoying. I don't even wanna see the end of it. This season is not about detective for sure. Funny to see people rate this ten while this is far from perfection.

Rumor says Bill Cosby dont use quaaludes anymore he just make his victims watch True detective season 3.
