Extremely Predictable
AshleyReviews15 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to like this movie more, but it was extremely predictable from almost the very beginning of the movie. The plot like doesn't really make sense - the main female character runs a business and clearly has chemistry with her good-looking and charming business partner, but instead pursues a relationship with a man she feels uneasy about from the beginning? Not very realistic and as mentioned, it is extremely predictable.4/10.

Predictable thriller
lisafordeay1 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Her Boyfriends Secret is a 2018 thriller starring Til Ex Do US Part star Kelly Sullivan,Christmas Belle(A fairytale Christmas) Mark Famiglietti and Jordan James Smith.

The story follows Melissa Davis(Sullivan),a real estate agent who meets a handsome man named John(Famiglietti) and is instantly drawn to him. At first things are great, his handsome, charming, romantic all the ticks in a perfect guy. But behind it all it turns out that John has a reputation of killing women who dump him once he gets possessive. Will Melissa escape and will she end up with her friend Travis(Smith) in the end.

I kinda knew where this one was going as the male lead who played the villain also played another villian in A Fairytale Christmas (Christmas Belle) where he was manipulative and charming at the same time.

If you love these daft thrillers from Reel One than check it out.

I didn't watch the whole movie because...

Warning: Spoilers
Getting sick of unnecessary & sheer stupidity in movies. I only got so far in this movie because as soon as John's ex showed to HIS HOUSE, ALONE, claiming that he is a psycho who tried to kill her and left her, presuming she was dead. She goes to his place looking for him, not sure why, but....yeah right. How stupid would you have to be??

Watchable but ending is weak
phd_travel11 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
An attractive and watchable cast make this thriller quite interesting. A decorator falls for a client. Her contractor partner suspects the guy isn't all that great. The story keeps you wanting to find out the mystery but the explanation about why he had a double life is a little bit rushed and not convincing. The big showdown leaves some things a little unexplained for a Lifetime movie. Ok watch just a little bit of what was that all about?

Not well written
selmagamsby24 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The actors and actresses did well. The story is completely ridiculous. Once Travis woke up. All he had to do was tell the police what happened. And they would have arrested the creep and taken care of it. The way Melissa handled it. She would have had legal issues. So not realistic at all. Storyline left a lot to be desired.

"We're Going to Figure It Out!"
lavatch19 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There are many mysteries to be discovered in the neurological research of Professor Christian Wellsley, head of neurological studies at Davrow University outside of Los Angeles. Apparently Dr. Wellsley is conducting hands-on experiments to prove the superiority of men over women by leading a secret life that includes attacking his female paramours.

While the mild-mannered Dr. Wellsely leads a blissful existence with Olivia, his wife of fifteen years and their little, six-month-old baby, he has led a much different life as "Phillip" and then as "John" with the two women who catch on to his antics. First, Olivia survived a brutal attack, then proceeds to warn his next victim, the interior designer Melissa.

Melissa and "John" begin a romantic relationship when he hires her to design a new home he has purchased in L.A. But Melissa's soul mate and co-worker Travis feels that something is "off" with John. It is also not a good sign that Melissa knows absolutely nothing about John's past and has met none of his friends. Slowly, Melissa senses that Travis is right, and she joins forces with Olivia, who proclaims that "we're going to figure it out."

A weakness in the screenplay was the revelation that John is a psychopathic killer only a quarter of the way into the film. The gig is up for the audience when he is recognized by a friend name Henry while John and Melissa are out for a jog. In a subsequent scene, Henry is garroted while getting into his vehicle. It was also never very convincing that Melissa truly felt a romantic connection for John.

Never have the police been more incompetent in a Lifetime film than in "Her Boyfriend's Secret." They are hopeless in their investigation of Olivia's mugging. Then, they fail to check John's arm after it was apparently broken by Melissa after he attacked her in her home.

Once Travis is nearly killed by John and is sleeping through a coma in the hospital, Olivia is murdered by John. It is now entirely on the broad shoulders of Melissa to find the means to set things straight with Dr. Wellsley and assist him in completing the final chapter of his book.

Predictable stinker.
psxexperten16 September 2018
Words cannot express how horrible this movie is. Watching paint dry is quicker & more interesting. You can make that film with your smartphone because it's only irrelevant talk & sightseeing. Script non existent as well as a plot. Bore yourself to death. Worse Than Passing a Kidney Stone.

Silly but entertaining and great eye candy
mjanssens268 April 2021
This Lifetime thriller is fun but highly unrealistic. The "single female" lead has a straight and gorgeous single male best friend, and yet she's instead pining over a suspicious guy who isn't nearly as handsome (though he's still good looking) as the male best friend in the film. Seems implausible especially when you see how much chemistry her and the sexy male best friend have together over the suspicious guy. That problem aside, the movie was fun and had great production values and a nice looking cast. A decent quarantine film to take your mind off the world's current issues.

Too many red flags...seriously
CranberriAppl29 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Everything here is predictable. Predictable to the point of my being annoyed I watched until the end. How are women (it is Lifetime after all) still so gullible in these movies? Lifetime movies in the 90s could get away with this storyline but not in 2018 and not in 2022 (when I watched).

Melissa (I think) claims she social media researched her new boyfriend, and that was enough for her. Never mind the fact that he's evasive, he's always gone (with no obvious signs that he actually works as a pilot), he hasn't shared anything about his past...so many red flags and quite frankly, Melissa is too old to be so naive.

There's nothing really new here and I think we all expect some predictability with Lifetime, but it's so irritating here bc it's overly obvious. By the time she realizes he's been lying, from that point on, we're just waiting for him to attack her and give his villain motivation. Which if "that" scene was it...weak.

I think the movie was also overly complicated giving him a wife and child instead of just making him a creep. Why was he going through all this trouble? Can violent psychos really turn it off depending on the relationship? The wife twist was just unnecessary. Also a body count and all he's doing is flying a few towns away? Yeah ok. I can believe the married man who has a girlfriend in another place and doesn't want to be exposed...but murdering to keep his secret? That's overkill. No pun intended. I did not like that he killed his first girlfriend who was the reason Melissa became aware of the danger in the first place. So unnecessary. Same for the guy in the park. So much murder and attempted murder just for the sake of keeping a secret.

If I'm honest, I was hoping for there to be a twin twist or something to shake this movie up and it never happened. Even a twist with his wife knowing about his behavior would have been a welcomed twist. The climax was lame and you guessed it, predictable. It's always amusing to me when tv protags, find and take someone else's gun and immediately know how to use it.

Probably the most annoying part of the movie was Travis (the one Melissa is really in love with clearly) going all that way, discovering John/Christian's secret and then sitting outside of his house trying to reach Melissa. Who didn't know he would end up hurt or dead. There was no suspense because it was so obviously going to happen. I honestly didn't expect him to survive (expected Christian to sneak into his hospital room and finish him off), but the only reason he did was so he and M could be together in the end. Ugh, I mean there are worse ways to spend a couple of hours than this as background noise, but you're not missing anything.

I couldn't figure out why John looked so familiar only to see that I very likely recognized him from Hang Time. Good grief, does anyone else remember that awesome show? Wow I feel old.
