Exclusive: Grindstone Entertainment Group has claimed worldwide rights to Winterstate Entertainment’s musical comedy Summertime Dropouts, ahead of its October 26 virtual premiere benefitting The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, with plans to release it next year.
The film centers on three best friends in a pop-punk band, who compete against rivals Late for Curfew and Half Past Midnight to play at the very last Vans Warped Tour. It watches as they discover that the road to fame isn’t an easy journey between work, school, and relationships.
Summertime Dropouts stars up-and-comers including Nicholas Podany, Crystal Lake Evans, Caleb Donahoe, Melanie Brook, Takaya Abdou Lloyd, Serena Laurel, and Josh Richards, marking the film debut of the latter social influencer. Exclusive: Village Roadshow Pictures has acquired Legacy, a feature piece based on an original idea by T.J. Fixman with David Goyer and Keith Levine attached to produce via Phantom Four Films.
The character-driven action film, which is said to be in the vein of The Bourne Identity, follows an enigmatic man who sets out to disrupt a powerful underworld run by the 1 percent.
Legacy marks the second project for Phantom Four and Fixman, following their teaming on the action-thriller Rogue for STX. Fixman also has a Netflix superhero drama, Past Midnight, with Rick Famuyiwa attached to direct. Other credits project in development includes One Night on the Hudson and The Men Who Kill. He is repped by Grandview.

Exclusive: Power Rangers filmmaker Dean Israelite has been hired to develop and direct the action thriller Rogue for STXfilms and Tencent, Deadline has learned.
The logline is being kept under wraps, but we’ve heard the project revolves around a CIA agent. The film is based on a pitch from writer T.J. Fixman (Past Midnight), with David Goyer and Keith Levine producing. Goyer’s Phantom Four has a first-look deal with Tencent, which is how the project originated. Drew Simon is overseeing the project at Stx along with Sam Brown.
Johannesburg, South Africa-born Israelite is best known for helming Saban/Lionsgate’s Power Rangers, which opened stateside to $40 milion domestic and grossed $142M WW. Israelite’s first big studio movie was Paramount/Platinum Dunes/MTV Films’ sci-fi title Project Almanac in 2015.
