Cloying, like her desserts
jeffdstockton27 December 2022
This episode is just too cloying for me, much like the deliberately over-sweet desserts of this Chef. I'm also not engaged by the over-emphasis on being a 'mommy'; millions of working women don't get to luxuriate in this fact of their lives, and it's annoying to see this fact treated as something especially special in this circumstance.

Worst of all about the episode, though, even recognizing that the general theme of the episodes is pastries, is that Tosi isn't really doing anything very creative - she's not advancing pastry cooking and creativity the way other Chefs in episodes adjacent to this one do. Much of what she puts together from grocery store processed mass-produced trash is hideous, including how bad it is for one's health. Other pastry Chef's - and other Chef's - who are featured in the series are genuinely curious and driven creatively to understand and discover. Tosi just throws different processed trash together, makes things with horrible amounts of sugar, in huge servings, and has no underlying curiosity or purpose other than to be a cutesy little 'look at me' short-term celebrity. Not deserving of being featured among these other truly creative Chefs.
