Just a Bit Fragmented

Warning: Spoilers
I was delighted to see that a new series of Bosch episodes appeared available. This episode begins with Harry on a small plane, then a mini-bus, taken to some sort of holding site. He is portrayed as an old man, using a cane, barely able to get around. Until some guy hassles him. He begins to snoop around but is grabbed by a couple guys and brought into a room. I'm not sure what these guys are up to other than they seem to have a generous supply of Oxy and have control over some harsh characters. We then cut back to two weeks previous where some really bad guys go into a little pharmacy, kill the owner, and rob him of much of his stock. They are looking for his son for some reason. We will find out soon what their game is. Pretty exciting first episode.

Good start to the fifth series

Bosch appears to be involved in an undercover operation following a case involving opioid narcotics.

This is a decent season's first with a worthwhile case for Bosch and what appears to be more scrutiny of his past, but after a memorable climax to series 4 it will take a significant hook to generate the same level of interest.

For me the hook is not quite there come in this episode, but I appreciate the writers have to lay the foundations for a new arc and I have to be patient. Also it takes the time to establish where certain characters are at this point given the time elapsed from the previous series.

All actors are on good form, particularly Titus Welliver.

The visuals are strong as always. This one includes a good staging of a car crash and another realistic murder scene.

What...?!?

I've enjoyed several of the Bosch series seasons, possibly more so because I have not read the books. Many reviewers seem to find Titus Welliver's presentation as Bosch unbelievable or unconvincing so I don't know. It was almost inevitable that a new series would be based on the whole Oxy epidemic, unfortunately, but it is what it is. But even after watching several of this seasons episodes more than once, I cannot understand the reason these drug dealers pack up a handful of their customers and fly them to some remote place for a few days. Watched it again. No hint. What purpose, if any, does this possibly serve??? I've been reading many reviews, hoping someone may point out something that makes sense of this bizarre plot hole.

Not the book

Close but no cigar. Where the hell is Mickey Haller? This is good for what it is, but read the book instead.

Poor, poor writing/storyline strategy

Warning: Spoilers
I have LOVED this series up until this point. Why oh why would it suddenly be revealed in the fifth season that Edgar is Haitian and suddenly speaks French? One would think if English was his second language, it would have come up in the first four years. Poor, poor writing.

Not even close

Not even close to the book. Spending the whole show explaining what's going on to others.
