Did they forget the original was an action COMEDY?
randy-7784918 February 2019
I won't give a rundown of the plot because honestly who cares? The original show is freakin' awesome because it didn't have any filler. Even the filler episodes didn't have any filler. It was also an action comedy, and it was way the hell funnier than any Disney Channel show on the air at that time. It was increasingly surreal as it went along, as well.

This TV movie was *all* filler, and it just wasn't funny.

Casting:

Kim was fine. Weird to see her without green eyes, but she's suitably acrobatic and perky and likeable, but man is she hampered by terrible dialog.

Ron. Was. Awesome! Seriously, while he doesn't look much like the cartoon, he's got the shambling walk down, the mannerisms, and the voice is so good you'd think it was Will Friedle dubbing it. Unfortunately he's given nothing of any importance to do. He's just kind of there. He's the only one who managed to deliver any funny lines in a funny fashion, though.

Wade is fine.

"Athena" is a new character. She's fine. Since she's new we've got nothing to compare her to. She's Kim's new best friend, replacing Monique. I didn't dislike her, but the show is basically about a duo, and when they brought additional people along (Like Monique) it was basically to show how the team ONLY works if it's Ron and Kim.

Like, no, seriously, one episode revolved around a government study to find out WHY it only worked with the two of them.

"And the Mole Rat will be CG!" Rufus turned up to my surprise. He does nothing of any consequence, but he is voiced by Nancy Cartwright, who was his voice in the cartoon as well.

Drakken was terrible. Like beyond terrible. Like I cringed every time he came on screen. For starters, he wasn't even blue! His sights were too low. He wasn't trying to take over Canada, or mind-control the world using shampoo, he just wanted to break Kim's spirit. Big whup. I feel like they didn't even tell the guy he was acting in a TV movie. I feel like they just found some stoned guy in an alleyway, told him, "You're a supervillian!" and he believed them.

Shego doesn't work. Can't figure why, she didn't do anything wrong, but, eh.

Barken was sick and wrong. Barken was voiced by Patrick Warburton in the cartoon, and he was designed to look sorta like Warburton as well. He should have been played by a live-action Patrick Warburton. "Maybe they couldn't afford him?" Of course they could afford him. he's a voice actor. He'll work for peanuts. Hell, as I'm typing this I've got him mopping out my garage. He wanted ten bucks, but I talked him down to $8.95.

The inexplicable fight scene at the end decides to team up Kim....and her grandma....and her mom? Really? Her mom is a brain surgeon, not an action girl. Her grandmother *was* a spy, but long since retired, and she only shows up twice in the entire run of the show, mostly to complain about Kim's clothes.

Anyway: lame. Just lame.

How to Humiliate Kim Possible in Just 90 Minutes
mbrooks-818 February 2019
Kim Possible was a super fun action character, one who had amazing adventures along with her sidekick Ron Stoppable, now the Disney Channel has made a live action version where she is needy, jealous and bad at her job. Is this something anyone wanted to see?

I could have let the low budget effects and strange casting choices slide if the movie at least tried to keep the spirit of the cartoon alive, but this live action adaptation comes across as a lame after school special, and was damn painful to watch.

Disney...what were you thinking????
dgbritt5 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I loved the cartoon, but there were soooo many problems with this live-action version. The biggest problem is that it lacked the creative, and often unexpected, humor of the original. Where were all those zany one-liners? Also, they didn't get the personalities quite right. In the cartoon, Kim has a soft side but is predominately cynical, untrusting, too serious and overconfident. She is the overachieving pessimist while Ron is the fun-loving optimist who balances her out. But in the movie they made KP too nice, too optimistic, and too sensitive. And poor Ron was just a bump on a log. They also missed the mark on the parents, who in the cartoon were very confident, engrossed in their careers, a bit clueless at times, and would set KP straight without being preachy or sappy. They made the militant, hard-headed Mr. Barkin a complete weakling. Rufus was brought in way too late and didn't provide the comic relief that is in the cartoon. The character that was the truest to the original was Shego, although they kept her too tame. And don't get me started on the plot, which was too predictable and a bit unjointed. I think Disney let PC culture get in the way of making a great movie for the fans of this show. It was too juvenile. I mean, they dressed KP like she was 10 instead of a teenager. They had mom and grandma help save the day instead of letting her solve her own problems. They didn't let her be a cheerleader, which was very important to KP in the cartoon. And they made it too sappy and serious. On a good note, the special effects and sets were good. Disney, if you make another one...please stick to the cartoon...it will not fail you. And if you need some help with witty humor, get the Liv and Maddie writers involved.

Why? Just....why?
riamonique-7259926 February 2019
Everything about this movie is cringe. Predictable plot, bad humor. It's just not Kim possible at all. Kim possible is an unrealistic cartoon that would be very difficult to make live action without ruining it. I can barely make it through the movie without turning it off. I know the rating is harsh but Kim possible was perfection and they took it and screwed it up. No. No. No.

Horrible Movie and Not for Obvious Reasons
tsilovewebkinz21 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was a HUGE fan of Kim Possible as a kid. I loved the show so much and was excited they were making a live action movie. Now I expected when I heard it was a DCOM that the acting would be bad for the most part and that the special effects would be poor (it's not a high budget movie). These aren't even my issues with the film.

1) Is this movie canon? So the movie takes place right before Kim enters high school and then follows her first days at school with Ron. In the TV show, the pilot begins with her already at high school. So technically it seems to take place before the series begins (a prequel) but that doesn't make sense because she befriends an evil robot who then joins her and Ron's crime fighting team and of course this character was NEVER in the series. So this movie does not fit into the existing timeline. It is not compatible with the series.

2) The other annoying thing is the movie is clearly supposed to take place now in 2019 rather than 2002-2007 when the series was created/existed. If this was a prequel, then characters should exist in a pre-Instagram, pre- internet memes, pre-smartphone world. The obnoxious references to these modern things is awful. One of my favorite things from the original series was Kim's communicator. It was a time before everyone had smartphones and it was basically a special smartphone. They felt the need to replace it with this weird projector Kim wears on her neck. WHY?!?

3) Kim's character is wrong. The Kim in the original series is clearly a very cool girl but she solves crime and happily hangs with a nerd to the frustration of Bonnie and the other cool cheerleaders. I loved that Kim was always super confident when it came to her academic, cheerleading, and crime-fighting abilities (just not with her ability to interact with boys). She was like a cool superhero yet a relatable teen who struggled with dating. In this movie she is CONSTANTLY doubting herself and crying. I just wanted to watch her kick-butt and exude her usual confidence in cheerleading and crime fighting. In this movie Kim is no longer the head cheerleader. In fact nobody cheerleads. They do soccer??? Why???? Kim being a part of the cheerleading squad was an important part of the show. It showed that Kim was cool yet different and her crimefighting skills made her a great cheerleader.

4) The addition of the new character is just awful. Adds nothing to the world of Kim Possible. Instead of wasting time with a new best friend character why wouldn't they portray Kim and Ron's will they won't they story?? It was an integral part of the show.

5) The ending makes no sense whatsoever. Once it is revealed the "best friend" was actually created as an evil robot and was evil the whole time, why would Kim say she was still her friend and still had some good in her? The robot never had any good in her. She was evil the moment she was introduced and if she is a robot then she should have no feelings unless she's supposed to be like Jenny from "My Life as a Teenage Robot". The fact Kim would consider risking her real best friend's life and her family's to save an evil robot is laughable.

5) Rufus was bought at a pet store. Not stolen from a lab.

There were so many ways to go with the plot of this story and they just completely failed. It could have been a prequel about her life before high school. It could have been a new story with Draken that takes place in the middle of the series that we've never seen before (but takes place in 2002-2007 not 2019). It could have even been about their lives after high school in college.

I also was disappointed how young the actress playing Kim looked. I know everyone in Kim Possible is supposed to be in high school, but the reality is the characters were all drawn/acted like people in their 20s. Kim was always a very adult looking teenager and this girl could have easily played a 6th grader.

If I could rate it a zero I would
carrington_traylor24 February 2019
This was a total waste of time. Honestly I wasn't expecting much but it was way worse that I expected I truly thought it would be at least average and it was far below it. As a person who still watches Disney this is one of the worse Disney originals ever especially if you grew up watching Kim possible. Overall it sucked. They changed everything.

This is as bad as the New 20-sentry Mcgyver effects team.

This is a disgrace to the original Kim Possible cartoon.

Safe, yet messing with original property
cameronparry-4313228 February 2019
The original property of Kim Possible is sacred to most, due to its passion behind it. It's writing was enjoyable to both kids and adults alike. This only caters to the kids. It's very uninspired due to it being live action, which makes things that can happen only in animation, either not happen, or not look decent at all.

In the original, Kim 'Possible' meant she could step up to the plate when danger came, even if it was stronger than herself. In this version, all she does is do flips, and when someone else can do a better midair tumble roll than her, she has a meltdown about it. That's immature and sends a dangerous message of egotism which really rubbed me the wrong way when that sub-message came about, before they hamfisted the message of friendship soon after. The writing is poor, and the plot is extremely safe for any toddler to follow. Yet for people who grew up with Kim Possible, and still revisits today to find enjoyment, this really tarnished the property. Show your kid the original animated series if you haven't, and save this for another day if you're extremely bored.

NOT MY KIM
michaelcollins10-123 February 2019
If you watched the cartoon Kim Possible then you will absolutely be disappointed with this movie. It took a lot of work and time to finally get the green light for this movie and then they just half assed it. The action scenes are a joke and the acting is sub par at best. This could have been a really good movie if they just cared. If your kids dodn't see any of the original show, they MIGHT tolerate this movie.

I'm a fan of the old show. But kept an open mind to watch this movie with my younger sister but this movie is awful it thinks its being funny. But nothing is smart. At one point Ron is complaining that he always trips over his shoelaces and would you guess what ! He suddenly trips to be the punchline of what he just said. Haha so funny like our kids are gonna be stupid from being spoon fed 'jokes'.

Warning: Spoilers
I like Sean Giambrone as Adam Goldberg (The Goldbergs). But as Ron Stoppable..... he tried way too hard to be as good as his animated predecessor and it showed. The movie also had him as basically Kim's equipment manager for missions. Whereas in the cartoon besides cowering in fear Ron still fought and had his own set of weapons while Kim carried her own. I was disappointed in how we barely got to see Rufus. And I was majorly disappointed in how the writers were just basically screw the original show and let's just write a crappy movie where we have some loosely based/connected references to the original. The only really nice thing that I can say is that the house they used for Kim's house from the at least the outside looked identical to the original cartoon house!

Great movie!
rainbowfdash16 February 2019
First thing I have to say is I've been a huge fan of the show since the start, and I loved this movie! The plot was good, and with a few twists to it as well. The acting was decent, some better then others, Shego and Ron were amazing! It even poked fun at itself and the cartoon. There is not much to hate here, even though it is a trend to do so. Definitely in my top 5 Disney channel movies. Remember this is a tv movie, so no big budget marvel style here. But still did itself justice.

Contrary to popular opinion...
sonjafilukasz9 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was apprehensive going in because I loved the show growing up. But I really enjoyed it.

It was super cheesy. Over the top. Predictable. Divergent from the TV show. But somehow really fun. I leaned into the cheesiness and laughed at it.

I thought Shego and Drakken were great... the makeup and blue veins/scar were a good live action substitute for green/blue skin. Ron sounded very much like Ron and though he maybe leaned too much into it, made me nostalgic for the original. I enjoyed the callbacks like the villains on Villainstagram lol.

I was sad there was no Monique. Also no dialogue for Kim's dad, but someone had to take care of the tweebs :P

Who knows, maybe I'll rewatch the TV show then hate the movie. But I enjoyed it for what it is.

A basic, average film
jonathan_k8016 February 2019
I was so looking forward to this movie and don't want to go so far as saying I was disappointed. I thought this was a decent effort because it captured the essence of the original program but not much of its charm.

The characters of Dr. Drakken and Shego were portrayed fairly well. The actors came close to imitating the original voice artists, especially Drakken's maniacal laughter. Shego's sarcastic comebacks were there, too, but could have been utilized more often. Ron was okay and did come across as the clumsy nerdy sidekick, as he should have.

I thought Kim was a little too vulnerable in this movie. In the original series, she had her moments of self-doubt, but never to the point of a near-total meltdown lack of confidence. Also lacking was the interaction among Kim's immediate family. There was no loving exchange between the parents and no rivalry between Kim and her younger twin brothers (the "Tweebs"). In fact, her dad's and brothers' appearances were not much more than cameos.

Special effects were on par for a made-for-TV film. Some of the fight scenes were awkward with Kim's flying kicks and back-flips appearing a little too contrived. I don't fault the effects department because they did the best they could translating a cartoon into live action. There are just certain physical movements that are impossible to replicate in real life.

Original creators Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley were back as executive producers, and I believe this is what saved the film. Had it been in the hands of someone else, it could have been a complete flop. The plot was left open-ended, so who knows if we will see a sequel, or better yet, a revival of the animated series. I am hoping for the latter.

Procrastination club: meeting postponed. Everything is is too over the top and Ron voice is like a a power drill to the ear. In my opinion a better movie could be made for a college project.

SixseventyOne67117 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I use to catch the old cartoon every once in a while growing up, and this movie is really nothing like it. They are trying to be more modern and made Kim more weak. What works in a cartoon does not work in live action. It's more of a cringe fest than the cartoon ever was. If you want to watch Kim Possible, watch the cartoon. It's much better.

Who let this drek into the Disney lineup??!
shaif17 February 2019
I am an old man who is still a sucker for all things Disney. I was sooo looking forward to see this movie... To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. Overacting may work in a cartoon but it NEVER translate into live action. I have no problem with changing the races and names of various characters, I guess that in today's over sensitivities of the younger generations they had to adapt. still it was literally a torture to watch it till the end. I kept hoping it will improve. Alas it just kept going along with the same stupid overacting that help destroy any attempt at coherent plot. I was wondering why not have Kim at the big screen like they did with Toy Story II. After seeing the movie I understand. Shame on you Disney for ruining a very great series into a terrible and UNforgetable disaster. I hope I will be able to unsee it.

It started very strong and it was quite nice. But then the movie introduced Athena and the story and everything went down... Stupid writing .... like someone was bored of writing script in 1/3 and then decided to finish it in 5minutes and go home.

Dont waste your time on this.... Teen Beach Movie 1 and 2 are way better and even have nice songs..

Okay but childhood memories destroyed.
ajmussell16 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I guess most of us wanted to watch this because we love the series. Sadly, there weren't many Easter eggs in this movie. We got the costume, Kim's House, and school. The plot itself was okay but it could have been better. We only got two popular lines which are Kim and Ron catch phrase. The twins only had two scene and never been called the "Tweebs". They were different people except the tech genius part. The mom has shown that she is more than surgeon mother which is a fighter. The dad doesn't get much of a chance to shine. Monique was nowhere to be found and Bonnie was okay. They don't mention other popular villains other than Professor Dementor Who casted by the same actor. So, part of my childhood has been kinda crushed. At the end, it look like there's going to be a sequel but let see if they have enough money to make it happen.

It was written by the creators themselves if you hate this you are hating the original
trebordjackson16 February 2019
I loved this movie. It felt so much like the original. Kim is cool but flawed, Ron is the cluts and a little bit stupid, Ruffus was funny and helpful , Sheego was the sassy one, Dracken was funny but a threat he came close this time ,only thing missing was the Parents lab coats and Kim didn't call her brothers Tweebs. The movie was pretty funny and it played like an episode of the original. Thiss is to the dummies complaining about it looking fake. It's based on a cartoon when have movies based on cartoons ever looked realistic it is trying to look stylistically fake on purpose.

Still a cartoon feel to it
bkoganbing16 February 2019
Disney Studios animated character heroine Kim Possible from the last decade returns as a live action feature film. Playing Kim in this live action feature is Sadia Stanley and her sidekick Ron Stoppable is Sean Giambrone.

The concept was new in the animated series, but could catch on if we elect a female president, the idea of a female superhero with a male sidekick. It was first used I think in those Nancy Drew mysteries and Stanley is another Nancy Drew with some super powers and super moves and Giambrone is her faithful worshipping boyfriend Ned Nickerson.

In this film some dastardly villains have built themselves a supergirl named Athena played by Clara Riley Wilson and the idea is to have her befriend Kim and Ron and then betray them. How it works out is for you to see this Disney film.

Other than being a superhero, Kim's got your usual teenage angst problems fitting in in high school.

Kim Possible in the flesh might prove a winner for the Magic Kingdom.

Not enjoyable (at least for those who weren't fans of the show)
JakeBrinkman2 March 2019
Note: I've only seen a few random episodes of the show, so I didn't really have anything to compare it with.

I'm going to ignore the movie's unrealistic physics because they were similar to the show. The story line was fairly uninteresting and predictable, but that's expected from a kid's movie. The cinematography was very poor; I can't remember a single memorable shot.

The CGI was horrible whenever it had to interact with a person. Ron never once made eye contact with Rufus, always staring off into space when they're supposed to be looking at each other. Kim at least looks at where Rufus is standing so it's less obvious. Ron's hands were closed to hide Rufus, and Rufus was far larger than would have fit in his hands. They didn't even try to make it look like a certain character was holding a prosthetic part.

Kim and Shego made the movie bearable. Both of them acted fairly well. Kim performed some emotional scenes convincingly, even if her dialogue wasn't great. Shego's character was the only source of humor, and it was quite funny to see her dynamic with Draken.

Ron acted and sounded like the TV show's character, but the movie really highlighted that he should never have teamed up with Kim. His quips and clumsiness aren't funny, and they only serve to make the viewer wonder why Kim would ever allow someone to slow down her operations like that. He only has one scene in the whole movie where he actually helps Kim, and that was only as an accident. Bringing her mom and/or grandma seems like a significantly better choice for Kim, and it would provide a much more realistic reason for Kim to get into fighting crime in the first place.

In a similar vein, Wade's character seems incredibly unrealistic. This kid is an incredibly ambitious genius, but for some inexplicable reason, after graduating college he becomes content spying 24/7 on every aspect of Kim's life, even the normal and boring parts. This movie really makes him look like a stalker.
