Thousands of actors have been walking the picket lines across LA and New York today and it’s clear that the SAG-AFTRA strike against the studios is going to continue to wreak havoc on scripted television.
But many of these faces are also now in charge of hosting, exec producing and competing in unscripted series for the broadcast networks, leading to the question of whether shows such as The Voice, Dancing with the Stars and The Masked Singer will be impacted by the strike.
It led network execs, producers and agents to scramble yesterday, making frantic phone calls to talent and figuring out the landscape as it pertains to the walkout.
The short answer, it seems, is that the majority of these shows, which make up the bulk of the fall schedules, will still be able to go ahead with production, thanks to a different contract set up.

The unscripted TV business has never been as glamorous as the movie business or the premium scripted world, but the past 12 months of the pandemic have highlighted how important the sector is to the entertainment world.
Shows like The Voice, The Masked Singer and The Bachelor franchise have propped up the broadcast networks during a rotten year, and Disney and Fox have launched their own alternative units to double down in the genre.

After outlining her exec team, recently appointed Universal Studio Group chief Pearlena Igbokwe is adding another studio to that group.
Igbokwe has announced, via a letter obtained by Variety, that the Universal Television Alternative Studios is being incorporated into Universal Studio Group. As part of the move, Utas president Toby Gorman is joining Igbokwe’s leadership team and will continue to oversee the studio’s biggest shows, including “Making It,” “The Wall,” “The Titan Games,” “Songland” and “World of Dance.”
Utas was previously overseen Meredith Ahr, who left NBC earlier this week. Her exit came little over two months after NBC Entertainment head Paul Telegdy left the company over accusations of racist, sexist and homophobic behavior.

NBCUniversal is moving Universal Television Alternative Studio under Pearlena Igbokwe and the Universal Studio Group, which covers all aspects of TV production.
Utas president Toby Gorman will remain on and join Igbokwe’s leadership team. Gorman will continue to oversee development, domestic sales strategy and creative affairs for the studio.
The decision follows the ouster of top unscripted executive Meredith Ahr, who had oversight of the Alternative Studio. Ahr was fired following an investigation into her and former NBC Entertainment chairman Paul Telegdy’s workplace behavior. Telegdy and Ahr were both accused by multiple employees of fostering a toxic workplace environment. Telegdy was let go in August amid a larger NBCU shakeup.
Ahr had led the unscripted TV division since 2018, where she oversaw all facets of the division including syndicated series like “Access Hollywood” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Before that, she was president of Universal Television Alternative Studio. Ahr...

NBC’s “Young Rock” has found its Young Rock — and also two slightly older (but still young) Rocks. The series about the upbringing of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has also cast the roles of dad Rocky Johnson, mom Ata Johnson and grandmother/wrestling promoter Lia Maivia.
Adrian Groulx will play 10-year-old Dwayne, Bradley Constant will play high school Dwayne and Uli Latukefu will play college Dwayne, NBC said on Wednesday.
In college, Dwayne Johnson won the NCAA National Championship in football at the University of Miami. Though his pro football career never really took off, Dwayne followed in his family footsteps to pursue a career in professional wrestling and, eventually, conquered Hollywood.
Joseph Lee Anderson has been cast as second generation pro-wrestler Rocky Johnson, Stacey Leilua will play Ata Johnson and Ana Tuisila will play Lia Maivia.
Dwayne Johnson is considered an honorary member of the famous Anoa’i wrestling family.

As of today, summer is over and it goes without saying that coronavirus threw off pretty much everything about the season, and that includes broadcast TV. But in a time of production delays and pushed premiere dates, June, July and August still saw new episodes of staples like “America’s Got Talent” and “Big Brother,” and the debuts of newbies like “Don’t” and “Broke” (R.I.P.). Click through TheWrap’s gallery to see the highest-rated broadcast shows of 2020 ranked, according to “most current” Nielsen data. For the purposes of this list, we omitted sports and only counted shows that aired five episodes or more between May 21 and Sept. 20. Lowest-rated is first, highest-rated is last. Dwayne Johnson was recently named the highest-paid actor in Hollywood for the second year in a row, solidifying his reputation as arguably the single biggest star in the industry. The 48 year-old is famed for his incredible work ethic, and not content with having Jungle Cruise, Black Adam, Red Notice, a Hobbs & Shaw sequel, another Jumanji and Netflix’s comic book adaptation Ball & Chain all in various stages of development, he also somehow finds the time to host NBC’s The Titan Games and even purchased recently-folded football league the XFL for good measure.

A few weeks ago, WWE superstar John Cena earned a Daytime Emmy nomination: Best Game Show as a producer of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” on Nickelodeon, which he also hosts.
