Nigel starts his journey in Beirut, at the end of Ramadan, where he is invited to celebrate Eid with a local family. He then travels south to Nabatieh and east to the Beqaa Valley.
Nigel visits Turkey, home to one of the world's grandest cuisines. In Istanbul he samples both the food of the sultans and the home-cooked dishes of rural Turkey. Then he visits central Anatolia and the Black Sea region.
Nigel finishes his tour in Iran exploring the secrets of Persian Cuisine. In Tehran, he discovers that despite the boom in fast food outlets traditional dishes are still popular. He harvests pomegranates and saffron.
