Should have gotten a season 2
tgcme2 August 2021
This show was refreshingly original. It had a great concept and is definitely bingeable. I would have loved a chance for this show to grow and develop, really find its legs. A perfect mix of quirky and funny which always made how dark it could go really unsettling. A good mix.

Fun Stuff
Dragonborn6414 June 2021
Things get moving after a bit of a jerky start. Nick Frost is an extremely likeable actor and once again portrays a somewhat dark, melancholic character in a positive light. Great cast rounds it out a fun mystery.

Pegg and Frost reunite for a clever horror comedy
ScoobySnacks6630 October 2020
Our favourite British bumbling buddies reunite for an X-filesy/Ghost Hunters inspired horror comedy that is perfectly packaged for a Halloween weekend binge-fest. This is really Nick Frost leading the charge with a couple of new faces, Elton John and Astrid, as sidekicks. It wasn't hilarious but it was fun and smartly written. I continue to be impressed with Amazon's entertaining originals. 8/10

Hey yanks stop looking for alternative X Files, this is most definitely not it.
ygwerin113 March 2022
I just caught this show on Amazon Prime and I am watching through the episodes of the first series, and for me it's annoying that anything remotely decent is buried away on an Amazon TV channel.

It's got a great collection of wonderful characters and actors, with the legendary Malcolm McDowell, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, and Julian Barratt.

Nick Frost is Gus Roberts by day No 1 internet maestro for Smyle and co, and by night ghostbuster extraordinaire of The Truth Seekers. Simon Pegg is Dave the Head Honcho of Smyle Inc, replete with a truly fright syrup.

Malcolm McDowell is Richard Gus Roberts dad, or is he really?

Julian Barratt is Dr Peter Toynbee is the self proclaimed guru of the paranormal, but is there more to him than meets the normal human eye?

I have seen a few reviews here of this show and of numerous episodes, and the negative comments frankly are from those souls who have somehow managed to miss the entire point of the whole programme.

This show has a blend of elements historical, supernatural, paranormal, enwrapped in comedy, a totally different blend of comedy drama than I have hitherto seen.

Of course comparisons are inevitable and for yanks the default may invariably be the X Files, but frankly that's a somewhat erroneous comparison.

To my mind Truth Seekers is not attempting to merely replicate the X Files, instead its going in a far different and a much more personal direction.

I hope that show goes beyond one series to allow for further character development, as well as eventually being picked up by a different TV provider like Netflix.

Entertaining but slow pace
Johnny_West19 April 2021
I like all the actors in this, especially Emma D'Arcy, but also Malcom McDowell, Nick Frost, and Simon Pegg. There are no special effects at all, so it is just scary sounds and lights, an occasional creepy creature, like the old Twilight Zone TV series. Simon Pegg plays the internet service company manager where Nick Frost works, and Pegg wears the most ridiculous 1970s polyester wig. I guess that counts like special effects?

The only reason to watch this series is for the acting, and it is very entertaining. Unfortunately, there are some spots where the characters literally sit down to read or watch a video, and it gets really slow and boring. Hopefully the series will quicken its pace in future episodes.

Not Bad
gbkimberley30 October 2020
Amusing enough in a way and I guess there are worse ways to spend thirty minutes at the end of the day, but it doesn't really hit the mark as a comedy or horror.

That's probably down to the fact that it was sold to us as a Simon Pegg/Nick Frost series (we know how good they are together) Unfortunately they're hardly ever in the same scene together and that's a big letdown and the reason why it doesn't quite work.

In fact Simon Pegg looks like he's doing someone a favour by being in it. Maybe he was. His name next to Nick Frost certainly got me to take a look. 5.5/10

An Hilarious Homage To The X-Files, Through The Lens Of Jaded Middle-Ages Gen Xers
psykosean1 November 2020
This is the kind of show that has been missing for awhile now. The acting is perfect (Malcolm McDowell steals every scene he's in), the writing feels familiar but fresh, the humor is organic and natural, and if you loved the monster-of-the-week type of episodes, that's what you're going to get, but with its own mythology arc running throughout.

On my second watch already, and it's only been out for two days!

A fun little mystery wrapped in a mix of paranormal and sci-fi
ton_cher1 November 2020
This Halloween I had the urge for comedy horror and was thinking of watching Shaun of the Dead again. This show was perfect timing. It combined a good mystery with the paranormal, merged with modern technology. Of course, with a good bit of British humour added in to the mix. Simon Pegg was almost completely unrecognizable in this show. Not only does he look a little different, but his acting was completely unique to this character. Many of his older characters seem the same, both in personality and tone, but this one was completely different in style.

Loved it cant wait for season 2!!!
tevionfox30 October 2020
No it's not Shaun of the dead or Hot fuzz or even Hamlet, but it is the old duo back together which always comes with good one liners, great visuals, paranormal activity what mor can you ask for. Although it's shot in 4k it has an old beauty about the visuals that most directors miss which is depth in vision, not just standard Eastenders or Holby shots which are just too flat like most films of late. There is good lighing and something in the shot to look at without distraction, love the cinematography. As always pays homage throughout with visual reffernces to close encounters with lighting, the shining a clockwork orange can be noticed and many more. I'm glad this has happened love the stuff these guys produce and it's been to long. Although you don't see much of Simon Pegg It's good to see Nick Frost as the lead with his style. This is not going to be for everyone, but Pegg and Frost have a great style for film. If you can appreciate them you will enjoy it. If not its still worth a look. Funny, quirky, character bonding it's all there. Just don't take it to seriously and enjoy. Its got my vote.

Was looking forward to this series due to it starring nick frost & Simon pegg some aspects are funny but don't expect it to be the typical sean of the dead humour this is very different for the pair also anything supernatural is a plus in my book just wished the episodes were longer but its worth a binge

Can't believe Truth Seekers is not coming back.
conmck-227 February 2021
I can't believe Truth Seekers is not being renewed. Such a fun show with a great cast. So much boring stuff on Prime and they cancel this creative, interesting show. Not cool, Prime.

Frost/Pegg can and have done better
p-812532 November 2020
I think the higher reviews for this series are Frost/Pegg blind. I love both these guys and most of what they do but this doesn't quite hit the mark. There is nothing original or that funny in this series but obviously, from a lot of the other reviews, people are comedy starved or myopic to anything that this duo do. Looking forward to this being put behind them and them moving on to better stuff.

Not great, but good.
hacks-566354 November 2020
Solid acting, decent story, weak reveals.

Could use more character building to make me care...

So I mean, after watching the first episode, I stopped watching for a few days, out of boredom really.

I came back because I have watched everything else on amazon... and I guess I am glad I did. It is not great by any standards, but is good. It picks up and gets to a point of being almost interesting.

I say "almost" because well right up to the final scene, where things take on a nice little twist, it is actually fairly predictable and unoriginal...

It plays with a few paranormal staples, and does it alright. But does nothing new, and nothing... big?... scary? interesting?...

That being said, 7/10 is actually a sign I liked it more than I seem to on the surface. I would watch a second season, but let's just say I am not holding my breath or anything...

Ok, so here it is, the bottom line, despite it's great actors, the show withholds I would say properly, and almost builds up tension, but then just kinda limply executes the big reveals, making them well... unimportant, unemotional... uninteresting really.

Fun, but a little rough around the edges
rmarkd5 November 2020
I was excited to hear about Truth Seekers as I love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost together (The Cornetto Trilogy movies, Paul), and hearing this was like the X-files but with comedy. The first season turns out to be not so much the case.

It stars Nick Frost as Gus Roberts, an uber techie helping to roll out Smyle's 6g access. Simon Pegg plays his boss, Dave. Dave assigns new guy Elton John (Samson Kayo) as an assistant, whigh Gus is not happy about. Gus also is a paranormal investigator and calls himself a "Truth Seeker", though his investigations are unconvincing at best. All that changes when Elton comes aboard.

The first season contains 8 episodes which form a long arc consisting of ghosts, soul transfer, a necromicon of sorts, and people who aren't what they seem.

The horror is fairly spot on, based on what they're going for. It's not meant to be full on horror, but it is creepy enough, and there are some mild jump scares that do what you'd expect. The humor itself has been somewhat disappointing. The story does get more interesting as the episodes continue, so you do get drawn in after a few.

All in all, at least for the first season, it's been a fun ride, if not a bit flawed. The humor misses a bit too much, but there's enough in the story line that I'm interested to see how things go. These shows do take a while to find themselves, so I can see season two being better as they keep the things that work and carve out the things that done. Nick Frost and Samson Kayo play well off each other. The episodes are half an hour long so it's quick -- perhaps rushed at times, but mostly just well paced.

I await the second season with excitement, but a differnt type of excitement from what I had when I first heard about this show.

7/10 - interesting enough to overcome some of its flaws.

Worth a Look
toronto20015 November 2020
This series is good so far. Some characters are a bit over the top but Frost and Kayo keep things grounded. McDowell does quite well with his stereotyped role. Susan Wokema is great, my favourite character.

The stories are paper thin, reminiscent of Dr. Who in some parts, but they flow and the crew has fun sorting it all out.

Question: Why is Emma D'Arcy in the show? She shows no emotion, or very little, presents her lines without much feeling, if any and doesn't have much if a role at all. It's either her or the director letting the audience down. She's expressionless most of the time.

I have this a 7. It's a fun bit of nonsense, just the right length to binge on and no 'let's fill in some time here' bits. Things move along quickly. I hope the second series is as good or better.

Bit reliant on jump scares but still an enjoyable silliness.
siwalker-0419330 October 2020
I like Nick Frost. He is often underrated as the lesser partner of the Pegg and Frost duo. (He even has an advert about being a sidekick lol). This isn't the slick comedy of the Cornetto Trilogy or the high budget of holywood, its a return to the surreal, nerdy, and odd that seeped into Spaced and Paul.

Its rough, daft, equal parts comedy, suspense, and horror.

'Come on you big Blouse...' :)

Enjoyable and refreshing.
tomb269530 October 2020
An original show thats not a prequel, sequel or remake. A good ensemble cast who brought to life likeable characters, who i'm invested with ( i even turned my phone off after episode 3!), our main heroes ( Gus, Elton, Astrid, Helen & Richard) all have their own fears, phobia and personal losses to face and conquer, through that, and their paranormal adventures they are good for and kind to one another. The guest cast ( I think thats the correct term) was also excellent, Who are some of my favourite performers. The story has several major arcs, also most episodes have a separate Story arc which is concluded within that episode. The major mysteries are concluded at the seasons finale, which also has 2 reveals that set up Mystery for a further seasons. Having typed this review, i can say i thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Truth Seekers, and will undoubtedly rewatch season one, more than once i think before season 2 ( I hope theres a season 2!)

Right i'm off now to pinch someones digestive biscuits.

So good, flawless acting, top notch writing.
berg-745325 November 2020
First off not really a comedy, it's sci fi with comedic bits sprinkled in. Characters have depth and though backstories are slowly revealed it doesn't stop you form connecting with them immediately. The stories are complex well thought out and presented with style and not even the slightest bit of cheese. Even if your sick of the ghost hunter premise as I am this won't matter. That's it, nothing more to say, it's excellent.

Something you have been missing, trust me.
kpcisq30 October 2020
Well I couldn't stop watching... binged the entire thing with copious amounts of tea and thoroughly enjoyed every second. The acting, as was expected, was top notch. The humour was nailed right on for the ambience of the series and the length of episode just right. Camera shots, lighting, sound, representation all perfection and polished to a tee. I cannot praise this enough. Also it is nice to have Leicestershire mentioned in a show for a change!! At first you start by thinking, "Oh, short story, seemed a bit quick to tie it up" but then realise as you progress that the stories arent finished... I wont elaborate but you get a good sense of fulfilment as it concludes.

It is pure Nick Frost and Simon Pegg at its heart and you wont be disappointed, it is a definite must watch again for me and hopefully another season will follow as this could become greater than it already is.

Watch for the humor
tknm-405552 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
But maybe don't stick around for any of the attempts at discussion of witchcraft or ghosts or demonology. Symbolism is picked out of the air from here there or anywhere and tossed on the walls or books on set to be deemed as marks of evil when they aren't even from England. Norse staves and runes, Celtic knots, etc used as markings made on historic English walls by an accused witch. Seriously? Only thing missing was Baphomet and upside-down crosses.

Comedy. Nazis. Crazy scientists. Agorophobes. Comic Nerds. Doofy boss. Check. Those they got right.

Boring
foxtografo4 November 2020
I really like Frost and Pegg, I had a lot of fun in the past with their work, but this is a poorly written series, uninteresting story, uninteresting characters... I can't care less about anything, I struggled up to episode 4. Frost is fun to watch whatever he does, Pegg barely appears (as far as in the four first episodes), Samson Kayo does a decent job on his character, but they can't save this boring, mediocre story. Cinematography is decent but nothing special. I'll leave it.

Enjoyable, pleasant comedy
TimeFox8819 April 2021
It's unfair for people who, every time they see Nick Frost or Simon Pegg, expect another iteration of an Edgar Wright movie. There's mothing more boring than comedians who stick to the same, tired routine decade after decade. Move on, they clearly have and want to do different things.

With that out of the way, I think Nick Frost is a great comedian. Many of his characters have a downhome, unpretentious type warmth to them that I really enjoy. His work on the underrated Hyperdrive is a perfect example.

These were some really well done horror stories without a bunch of gore or violence, with some interesting characters.

A bit rushed?
DrProfessor5 November 2020
I will always enjoy Pegg & Frost together. I had a few really good laughs with McDowell's character. I wished it had a longer time slot than 30 minute episodes, I think it would have fit into the 45 minute slot real well. I'm looking forward to season 2.
