Crusader Ruth (Hirose) Ishizaki had a Crusaders Scrapbook at the bottom of her closet for 50 years until she saw Marlan Warren's play based on the scrapbooks' contents. Then she donated it to the Japanese American Museum of San Jose.
Playwright/Filmmaker Marlan Warren had a difficult time finding out how to directly contact Yuri Kochiyama. Two days before "Bits of Paradise" opened at The Marsh in San Francisco, someone told her to "just go to the San Pedro Hotel in Oakland." Warren took actor Jean Franco with her, and he ended up performing a monologue from the show for a very surprised Yuri in her room.
Crusader Patricia Goto Takeshita learned about the film from an article about it in a San Diego newsletter. She asked her daughter to reach out to the filmmaker because she had written a memoir, at age 80, that included memories of how much she loved Mary Nakahara and The Crusaders, but had lost touch and now wanted Yuri to have her book.
Crusader Rinko Shimasaki Enosaki was filmed by her grandson and his girlfriend in Virginia when they were visiting from the U.K. Her revelations were so inspiring that these filmmakers asked to waive their fee in exchange for Warren's consent that they own the footage and Warren may borrow it, and she agreed.
