Actually a real surprise
lisafordeay18 May 2018
Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance is a TV film based on the real life couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who met in 2016 and fell in love. The film starts of with what Harry and Meghan were like as kids and we get to see a small glimpse of what Meghan's father is like Thomas Markle and Harry's mother Diana who tragically died in 1997 in a car crash. It then cuts to 2016 as Meghan's friend organised a date for her and the guy turns out to be Prince Harry.

As the two start to fall in love there is some signs of racism and some are trying to break them apart due to her ethics and her being married before to Trevor Elgerton.

Overall I thought the film was not that bad. I liked how the two main actors Murray Fraser and the girl acting as Meghan were just like the real deal and even though parts of the film were made up(maybe it happened I dunno). But still it was at least better than the William and Kate film. My only grip with this film was the guy acting as Prince William. He looked nothing like him whatsoever.

If you love Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's whirlwind romance than check it out.

Better than Hallmark
carrick553 June 2023
No hollywood smash hit but very respectable drama, mostly of a much better quality than Hallmark. Strange that it gets more hate than it deserves, but I see that comes mostly from the UK.

This is a good solid production, reasonable acting (though some smaller roles use weak actors), a true story credibly told, some intelligent insights and overall nicely paced narrative. The dialogue is not anywhere near the class of 'The Crown' but engaging. I was pleasantly surprised. If you want to know more about Harry and Meghan this film is more reliable than tabloid newspapers!

Solid 6.5 stars - If you have not already decided, then I do not hesitate to Recommend this.

This has a sequel 'Becomming Royal' (some different key actors but same sets and prcoduction team), but this stands comfortably on its own merits.

Great casting and the perfect bit of cheese to watch before or after the royal wedding.
juneebuggy18 May 2018
I enjoyed this. Better than a lot of Lifetime movies. The casting of the actors they found to portray Harry and Meghan are really spot on which helps with the fantasy here.

This made for TV movie deals almost exclusively with Harry and Meghan's relationship with a bit of a sidebar to Harry after Diana's death and Meghan as a young girl in California. We get to see them on their first blind date, their witty banter and instant chemistry and the love affair that follows as they try to fly under the radar with Harry visiting Meghan in Toronto where she is filming Suits. There are trips to Africa, breakups ands makeups and lots of events we remember from the tabloids.

I don't know how much of it story is true? My guess would be none of the personal stuff.

Decent acting though and very good casting especially for Meghan and Harry who look and sound just like the real thing.

Interesting imaginings of what the rest of the royal family are like too; the Queen is nice- a sweet, witty granny, Camilla is funny, Charles also nice, approachable. The portrayal of William and Kate surprised me a bit -proper stuffy and fully sucked into the royal machine. Oh and Diana is represented as a lion.

This is very romantic with some decent love scenes. I found it interesting how Lifetime imagines these personal things happened. Ultimately its a love story and the perfect bit of cheese to watch before or after the royal wedding.

Absolute rubbish, total cringe fest!

Dont watch it unless you want a laugh! What a waste of time. The film is cheesy as hell. With everything that as come about about the pair. It's easy to see the entire film is based on trying to convince everyone there good people who are victims of only being in love and the royals are basically bad people. What a bunch of rubbish. The only good thing about it was the good casting.

Surprisingly good!
Sophie_8915 May 2018
This film was much better than I thought it would be, it's really good for a TV movie. The actors who play Meghan & Catherine look scarily like the real thing, all the actors do a good job at portraying their part. The acting is decent and it's a wonderful story. I love a good, mushy love story!

A Royal Bore
lavatch9 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
"Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance" is a smarmy, feel-good biographical film presented in an extremely dry format.

The film takes the form of long, heartfelt conversations between Prince Harry and his paramour Meghan Markle. There are also scenes set in Africa where the royals confront lions. The filmmakers have done a good job in casting with convincing look-a-likes for the constipated Prince Charles, the fussy Queen, and the "perfect" couple, the balding Prince William and the decorous Kate Middleton, the Duke of Duchess of Cambridge. Of all the performers, the most interesting is the actress playing Meghan.

The best scene in the film is when Meghan is wearing a Hilary Clinton mask. She arrives at a bar to restore order when Harry is being taunted by a Canadian, who also insults the good name of the Queen. There is always a "take-charge" quality with Meghan who stands up for her rights against the recidivist British monarchists.

One can only image what the creators of the series "The Crown" will eventually do with the characters of Harry and Meghan. Almost certainly, their treatment will be more interesting and will include greater depth than this shallow made-for-television film.

Good casting well acted quite romantic
phd_travel14 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie turned out to be surprisingly entertaining. The cast is good with a striking physical resemblance of Parisa to Meghan. She also acts very well, better than required for this kind of movie and creates a lot of sympathy for her obstacles and the very unique position she is in. Her family troubles are also mentioned. The writers make use of some dramatic licence to create enough passion and romance to entertain throughout. Murray Fraser is better looking than the real Harry. The actresses who play Diana and the Queen look a lot like them. Only thing didn't like were the things they made Kate Middleton say seemed like the were too aggressive to be from her mouth. Also didn't like Harry saying something nice to Camilla. A bit too much angst about Diana.

Worth watching.

Enough over reacting!! Just a married couple live in a palace and don't represent normal people. They have nothing at all to worry about other than how they look on the cameras!

Don't watch this movie unless you want to inflict pain on yourself. I had fun watching it because I found it so bad to the point where it was enjoyable to laugh at but beyond that, there is no value to this movie. Please don't watch it. Please.

Lovely Telling of the story of Harry and Meghan
itsactuallyamanda14 May 2018
This movie was very wonderful and told the story of how Harry and Meghan met and got engaged really well. The actors did looked a lot like the actual royals and the story was very heartwarming and sometimes even made you almost cry. Overall, the movie was an amazing movie and a great telling of the story of the engagement of Harry and Meghan.

Fluff and nonsense
pmpmn916 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Some of the actors had good likenesses (the Queen wasn't even close and the guy who played Harry had too narrow a face). The story itself seems to have been written by someone idealistic who knows little about the royal family. For one thing, there's no reason whatsoever that the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall (Charles and Camilla) would be at Pippa Middleton's wedding, much less Princess Michael of Kent (the woman wearing the "Blackamore" brooch). Aside from the fact that Prince William is married to Catherine, no one in the royal family is related to the Middleton's, so why would they be at her sister's wedding?

And Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz's African heritage was at least nine generations in her past with a lot of Latin (mainly Portuguese) and German ancestors in between. I'm not doubting that she had African heritage, but it was so far removed that to make so much of it and suggest that Her Majesty would have accepted Ms. Markle marrying into her family because of her fourth great-grandmother's distant heritage is really overstating things. The Queen is far more tolerant than people give her credit for. She reigns over a Commonwealth with several Heads of State of colour and treats them all with respect and dignity. She doesn't talk down to anyone and I know that personally from meeting her during a walk about over 30 yrs ago.

Harry said he was Prince of England'. Americans think the Queen is Queen of England and not the U.K. as Prince Harry is and just England.

Commercial for D List Actress/ Social Climber
jennyboyd-557538 December 2022
Wow. This is another shameless PR stunt, and money grab by a talentless, grifting, D-list actress.

The brainwashed "Spare," who has his own issues with inadequacy, will no doubt live to regret ever meeting, Meghan The Shark. He's clearly too naive and sheltered to recognize that only one person stood to gain from this marriage, and it certainly isn't him. He's been in a downward spiral since the "I do's" catapulted Meghan's tyrannical and diva-like campaign.

Meghan has a documented history of using people for her own gain. Several in her own family have described her narcissism and her toxic impact on others. Seems like the only person who didn't know this was Harry.

Better than the William and "Kate" version
lcalee21 July 2018
This film had at the minimum good casting and passable acting. It seems to be largely based on known fact with your expected fictional extrapolation. It's not The Crown or The Queen, but it was fair entertainment for dearth season viewing. If you hated the one about William and Catherine as much as I did, you should give this one a try. It is far, far better.

Just boring
rustichavengal29 June 2023
A Prince and his goldigger wife complain about how poorly they have been treated. And their backstory is boring as hell.

Meghan is a wannabe Diana, and Harry is a broken victim of his biscuits family and ruthless paparazzi. How many times can they play the race card? Well, they wear it out in this way-too-long journey into narcissism and self-pity. They got the smallest royal mansion among other slights by the royal family. Under it all plays Meghan's intense jealousy of Will & Kate. She wanted to be #1 and her sheer presence entitled her to it! The story is riddled with pathetic lies. And through it all, she had to wear beige ... as she appears in red, green and many other colors. Not worth watching 5 minutes.

Should have been a hallmark movie instead
charlesadrienne15 May 2018
I should start by saying that the Royal Family have never interested me but that didn't sway my opinion in any way. The movie was a sappy love story that would have been better suited for hallmark or romance channels, not lifetime. The movie was just boring to me. The actors that played the characters did a great job portraying Harry and Meghan and looked a lot like them, which is why I give it a 3.

Tacky
internan10 December 2022
What a self absorbed couple! 3 episodes of me me me.... A total reliance on the Royal family's belief in never complain never explain. They are thumbing their noses at the British and the British Monarchy. I won't be watching the next episodes I shall be listening to the carols with Princess Catherine and all those supporting her. There is a lady who knows how to behave with grace however difficult the situation- not whine about everything and everyone and blame their situation on everyone but themselves. The whole waste of time was an exercise in self aggrandising. They couldn't even manage to show the truth.
