Looking back at his journey so far, the actor told the publication: "Initially, after the success of Dangal when I hoped that a lot of offers will come my way, many a times people (casting directors) couldn't place my face for a character as they had a strong image of the village boy I played in Dangal. 2016’s Happy Bhag Jayegi was a very successful romantic comedy about Harpreet Kaur (played by Diana Penty) who ran away from her wedding with Daman Singh Bagga (Jimmy Shergill) to find herself in Lahore taken in by Bilal Ahmed (Abhay Deol). In 2018 Happy is back, but this time with Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role in Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi. Set in China this time, there’s bound to be plenty of machismo, the girl coming out on top, some great one-liners and a strong Punjabi vibe. Sohail Sen has been asked to pen the score for this album, so it will be interesting to see how musically he brings Punjab to China.

It was unique and first-of-its-kind promotional strategy for their much anticipated sequel, Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi. In fact, the cast and media were in search of Happy.
Everyone was in a fix over the missing of Happy (Sonakshi Sinha) but they eventually found her in Mumbai. Interestingly, the cast of the film including Ali Fazal, Piyush Mishra and Diana Penty along with the media went searching for Happy in a happy van, especially designed for the film’s promotional campaign.
