Not what I expected
jmsantana29 March 2018
I'll give my best fair review of this movie. I'm a Christian and we went with our church small group together to watch it. The movie was not what i expected. It's a one hour documentary which is fine, but I don't think we learned anything new from this. I mean, we all know that kids and teens are addicted to their phones. We know cyber bullying happens on social media, and we know that porn is easy to access online from any device. So I guess this movie just reiterated to us what we already know but this time through Kirk Cameron's amicable voice and inquisitive eyes. I didn't rate it lower because in the days right after watching this I was able to use this movie as a conversation starter to some of those around me as easy way to let them know I'm a Christian.

Also there was a lot of propaganda.

Hidden agenda

This is filled with selective thinking and religious undertones, couldn't be more irrelevant to technology and social media this day and age.

It could be worse...

It could be Saving Christmas. I guess Cameron is making money with these because they keep making them.

Great reminder for parents

As parents we hear the pitfalls of social media on a regular basis but does it make us stop & really think about it? Hearing in depth information from real people who could be your friend, your co-worker or your neighbor that you spend Saturday afternoons with makes it hit home. We may have heard some of the same messages before but this is a definite must watch for parents and it's one you can watch with the kids. As a Christian parent, I haven't hesitated to share our thoughts on this one with any of our friends or family - Christian or not! The message is an important one that is brought to light without being "preachy" as some might think after seeing Kirk Cameron's involvement.

Good conversation starter

Warning: Spoilers
Raising kids in a digital world is not for sissies. Parents need all of the information and encouragement that they can get. Kirk Cameron does a good job of covering a number of aspects of parental concerns related to the digital access including predators, brain development, pornography, as well as family and interpersonal relationships. The movie does not cover any specific apps that might be problematic or any parental monitoring though it does promote Circle with Disney at the end. For Christian parents Connect points out the importance of a child's heart as well as the imprudence of controlling a child to the point that they are not allowed to make mistakes. I look forward to seeing the movie with my son and hearing what he thinks. It will give us a good starting point for many discussions to come.
