TOM: Well, the wait is over. The new Lord of the Rings movie is finally out. It was tough waiting a whole year, but I managed to pass the time with The Two Towers for the PS2. This is yet another movie tie-in game, but this one's the real deal. Play the first few levels and scenes from Fellowship. Let me tell you, this one puts you in the mayhem from the get go. Eventually, you can play as Aragorn, Gimli or Legolas and fight your way through the story mode of Two Towers. Sounds pretty easy. A sheer number of Sauron's minions is at times overwhelming. As the game progresses, the characters get power ups and gain levels. You also unlock bonus clips and extras from The Two Towers movie. Survive the battle for a longer gate, and you get a secret character and secret levels. With all this hack-and-slash action, it's easy to overlook how great this game looks and sounds. Almost seamless transitions between movie scenes and game scenes put you right in the action. Plus, the actual movie soundtrack looks along the way, especially at Mordor, where the shadows lie. Toonami gives The Two Towers for the PS2 an eight out of ten.
