The Steiner Resort scenes were filmed at the Scott's Oquaga Lake Resort in Deposit, NY., a family owned resort since 1865. The lobby, dance hall, Maisels' resort house and boat dock are all part of the original resort.
The woman beside Rose and Midge at their first beauty salon appointment is the same lady from the butcher's shop in the Pilot who Midge offers to pay for her pork chops.
After the camp director tells Midge that she can't compete in the swimsuit competition this year because of her marital situation, her mother says, "That's it, you're definitely wearing the Mamie Van Doren." Mamie Van Doren was a so-called "blonde bombshell" in the Fifties, known for modeling form fitting one piece bathing suits, considered daring for the era, that often showcased her cleavage.
The entire Maisel family go to the Steiner Resort in the Catskills, as they have for many previous summers. It the largest film and television production studio complex in the United States outside of Hollywood.
