If you're a lesbian horror fan looking for a good lezz horror flick, skip this please.
jmcgowan-808058 July 2020
Huge horror fan, of even the bad ones and I'm a gay woman who would love a horror movie with lesbians in it and would give it every possible chance. But skip this. Seriously the script is terrible, the victims are unsophisticated, you want your females to be good victims but they suck and they make terrible decisions. Don't even get me started on the fact that this WILL offend most lesbians for reasons that will become apparent early. Long monologues where no one interrupts their bull crap and at two or more points you can see the camera guy who doubles as the sound guy in the shot. Don't. Just don't.

Pretty bad
macfaefan6 July 2019
I watched every last moment of the story. To say the storyline was aweful is being kind. Then you top it off with bad acting, bad dialogue and just plain bad everything. I wanted it to get better,I really did. It just never happened.

Aaaaaaand NO!
Patient44412 June 2019
You want to know what the worst part about Hallowed Ground is? It's 120 minutes long, filled with boredom, talks, boredom and more talks. This is what the movie is pretty much all about. You want to try it out? Be my guest, but please come back after and leave a review. Come on, let's work together and warn people about what this stands for.

It has no horror, close no deaths, 0 suspense, no build-up, just a story that somehow got green lighted and they went with it. Very, very weak execution, sort of OK acting for this kind of indie, terrible dialogue and an ending that did not come soon enough. Seemed like around 3 hours if you ask me, with nothing more than boredom and another chapter of pointless dialogue from the main villain after another chapter and so on.

Hallowed Ground is one of the weakest examples of "in the woods" horror that showed no promise and delivered nothing at all.

Cheers!

Joke of a movie

Not sure how this is even in the horror genre. The acting and writing was horrific and the whole lesbian couple aspect did nothing to help this film.

This Writer/Director Could really use some help.
bbates02421 October 2020
This Movie, and The Dinner Party are so bad. Twenty minutes of nothing followed by two minutes of action followed by thirty minutes of nothing.

This guy has decent ideas, and finds pretty good actors and actress, but suffers from not having a sounding board or someone who can tell him no or how to make a cohesive film.

Sadly there is a studio out there that keeps buying these.

What the point of this movie being made????
anthonyrosstattoo16 August 2019
Possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. Literally not one single positive thing to say. Terrible acting, plot, and cringey dialogue. Avoid at all costs. My gf and I only finished it because we couldn't believe how bad it was, and couldn't look away, like a terrible, dragged out boring car crash. And the lesbian connotations were beyond forced.

Listen to the Silence

Warning: Spoilers
A couple (both female) vacation at a Mississippi Native American cabin and burial ground with a past. They accidentally trespass unto the neighbors posted land which requires a blood sacrifice of something because they are a cult that wears red robes, antlers, and uses Latin.

The acting was wooden. The storytelling was lame. Could have been a good film with acting, dialogue and less character build up.

Guide: F-word. Nudity (Lindsay Anne Williams)

Slow. Reeeeeaaaaalllllly slow. Dumb. Reeeeeaaaaalllllly dumb. Boring. Reeeeeaaaaalllllly boring.

There, I just saved you two hours of your life. This is not a horror movie. This is a bunch of bad actors slowly monologueing nonsense, with bad background music constantly playing. The movie obviously has strong LGBT ties and I am completely okay with that, BUT every male character is portrayed as either being evil or as a complete, backwoods idiot. But honestly, none of that really matters because this is such a boring, pointless movie where absolutely nothing of interest happens anyways, and trying to find a deeper meaning in it is futile. Not worth the watch. 2/10

pseudo horror
ops-5253512 June 2019
This is the kinda stuff a local group of redneck actors make to try to sneak in from the d-division to the c-division in the art of moviemaking.

its something indian spiritual folkloristic stuff, with some racial thugs in the neighbourhood, that tries to kill any intruder, and its all caused by an ancient bloodfeud between the natives and the white natives.

the acting, the score, the story and plot are just lame and the grumpy old man does not bother to recommend this flick.stay away.

time poorly spent

A couple takes a vacation, and lands in the middle of ongoing dispute between indigenous people and descendents of settlers - and the conflict and common between them over the... yaaaawn. this movie nearly touches two hours, the acting and the plot are not strong enough to support it. it could be the indulgence of the writer/director/major character, it certainly could be bad editing. i dozed off in the middle somewhere, rewound it, and realized i missed close to nothing. its a basic premise that doesnt reward thoughtful watching, but slowly spoon-feeds you the message. 2 stars for the 2 hours, not recommended

Deliver Me From Deliverance

I can excuse a great deal in a horror flick but there are limits to the suspension of my disbelief. Nobody in the real world makes the constant stream of bad decisions that passes for a story. People like this wouldn't survive childhood. I don't blame the actors and I'm fine with every theme present except one: poor story-telling.

Keep scrolling!

Intelligent horror with excellent LGBTQ representation
mindibennett12 June 2019
Well-developed characters and great performances by Lindsay Anne Williams and Sherri Eakin were a refreshing change from the often over-sexualized stereotypical portrayal of lesbian characters in horror films. Beautiful cinematography and use of color. Miles Doleac is so good at being a creep you want to poke out BOTH eyes! Definitely worth watching!

Identity politics movie
stuartmconde18 January 2021
This is one of those woke modern female-centric movies that portrays men as misogynistic backward rapists etc . It desperately tries to be feminist and pro lgbt with constant references to the sexual preferences of the female leads which becomes tiresome. Lots of forced girl power cringe moments.

I have no problem with the themes but this is just embarrassing. If you have skin in the game then you'll probably love it but oh boy it's badly acted, badly written and badly directed.

Almost So Bad It Is Good; Extremely Irritating, Pretentious, and Overlong.
betchaareoffendedeasily28 October 2020
I cannot believe I sat through this tripe, I guess I kept hoping it would improve, it only gets worse. I am usually really nice to low-budget films, but this one is 45 minutes too long, it would have made a fine 70-80 minute film, this premise should not have been stretched so far. I liked the idea of the the anthropologist and being fascinated with native American culture, and the whole thing with burial mounds is a rich premise and is a great plot point that has been used in a few other films such as the mediocre "New Daughter". The irritating "love" triangle between the two women and one of their obsessed former lovers is irritating and serves no purpose. Cut that whole bit out and the movie would lose the necessary 1/2 to make this slightly more of reasonable length for the story.

I'm usually pretty forgiving, but this is truly an obnoxious movie. How can you claim to be inclusive and not hateful when you are totally vilifying another group of people? I might be okay with that to be honest, if it wasn't for the overly preachy dialog about how hard these women have it, which they obviously don't since they can afford to go on a fun vacation, this movie would be all right. Rather than have a message that people can relate to, it simply just bashes you over the head and pushes it's screed until you comply. The camera work and sound are the only decent aspects, but that isn't going to somehow make the script any less awful and the acting any less horrendous. The ending is simply a reinforcement of the obvious prejudices of the film maker(who also wrote the scipt), and it is predictable in the worst way possible.

I do remember this film, simply because it is really really bad. The filmography and sound or decent, but outside of the the acting and script are just jaw-droppingly bad. If you enjoy thus fine, but don't go into this thinking it will be scary or fun. Expect a hr long screed about what an awful person you are if you do not toe the left-wing line and agenda. If that was not it's message, it failed so miserably, there is not hope. This director is capable, but he needs to stop writing or picking shoddy scripts, I have watched one of his other films and it does not fare much better.

Poorly directed
hydrox315 June 2019
Watching the trailer can lure you sometimes in a total disappointment. First of all Miles Doleac - director and actor - failed in both ways making a fool of himself both as an actor as well as a director. The film is poorly directed, the sounds and the way of filming giving you the sensation that is more like a theater rather than a film. Also Miles Doleac seems awesomely fake playing the negative character. The two lesbian - gay women seem just like faking the lesbian feelings - being obvious in real life they are both straight actors. Some dialogues are also overreacted making from the film a true disaster. The story is built on a mixture of Native American sacrifice traditions combined with some occult crap invented to make the story more real, thing which had a total different negative result. The only positive thing that may have resulted from this terrible film (which wants to be a horror) is the fact that the movie may have been a propulsion for Lindsay Anne Williams who plays one of the two lesbian - gay women. Her acting seems fake but her appearance and sex appeal may want other directors to use her in some other movies (maybe higher in quality than this movie). So maybe under the instructions of a better prepared director she would do a better job.

Hallowed be thy movie
TheEverydayGeek13 June 2019
Not being a fan of horror films, I wasn't sure how I'd enjoy "Hallowed Ground." I found that I enjoyed the independent nature of the movie. The story, acting, music, and everything in between create something that has enough passion for admiration. Another worthy note being the couple at the center who provide heroines that are easy to care about throughout the film. Come for the story and creepy atmosphere. Stay for the passion that is filmmaking.

Groundbreaking
hilary_duggan13 June 2019
This movie had well developed LGBTQ characters that weren't used as a gimmick but rather the central focus of the story. Instead of an over sexualized portrayal, the actresses gave a stellar performance of a real life couple dealing with real relationship issues. The plot was suspenseful and had interesting twists which kept me on the edge of my seat as well.

Thriller Movie

What is everybody on about? This is a great movie! I love how the way they used the lgbt characters in this film and didn't make it cheesy. The story gets more intense as the plot thickened. Lindsay Anne Williams who plays Alice is an absolute superstar and played the heck out of her role! Highly recommend this.
