Seems to go more downhill every year

Okay I've been watching this show from the very first season. I really like the concept and it's become a pretty big thing in my house.

It's fun to play along and try to guess who it is. We like to write down the clues and everyone does first impressions..stuff like that. This year though (so far) it's like it got bad pretty fast. Almost like there was a huge budget cut?

There is definitely a different vibe this year. In the few episodes that have premiered these are some things I've noticed..

This year they switched up the teams.

Good, bad, and cuddly... this made me feel like I'm watching a children's show with my niece.

The judges do have really bad acting. Sometimes it's a little painful. This has been since the first season but instead of getting better it's gotten worse.

The costumes used to be spectacular!! This year they're pretty plain

Seems to be less clues then previous seasons.

.............. Will my family still watch the rest of this season and next? Yes. Because the show is what you make of it.

The game itself is still fun. But everything between the performance and the clue packages.. hurts.

We usually just take that time to put in our guesses.

Season 7 is Terrible

Is it just me, or is nearly every singer terrible this year? And the judges stand up and cheer as if they are phenomenal singers, when in reality, they are just terrible or mediocre at best. I mean, I understand they aren't all going to be professional singers, but the judges acting like they are so much better than they are is ridiculous. They are just showing how fake they are.

Nick and the judges gotta go!

Nick and the rest of the judges need to go. Robins not too bad. But the other 3 are just horrible. Ken is annoying af! And I'm tired of just the stupid comments. Nick also needs to go. We need someone fun and not making a load of kids every year! Please change the show a bit!

Heavily scripted and possibly fake

I'm not sure if this show, say in season 1-2, might've been more spontaneous and unscripted, but the ratings king that it became turned it into a more and more scripted, polished product, I suppose an attempt to keep it fresh and "on top".

Anyway, I have a ton of specific evidence showing that this series is highly scripted for a "music competition show", and might possibly be 100% fake. And you know what? It's totally "ethical" if it is. I'm sure the audience might be angry if they knew a "competition" show was possibly fake, but since the winner doesn't actually win a cash prize, it might just all be fixed.

1950's game show scandals made it effectively illegal to "fix" a game show where real cash and prizes are involved, but if the prize has no real value, say, a dumb fake gold trophy, it's completely "okay" if it's all fake.

Is it truly fake though? After season 2 I'd have said 50/50, but especially seasons 4+ have really shown this series' warts, so to speak.

For example, the Mikey Rourke stunt in season 4 was obviously just that, they could only afford to cast him in one show.

I have a sneaking suspicion that all the performers answered a casting call, with it written into their contracts just how long they will stay. I believe the "winner" is negotiated by agents, as you may notice by some random "chance" that the biggest name each season wins, every single time. Daughtry,, etc.

And if this is a real singing competition, why the hell are Bob Saget and Bill Nye singing in the same competition as real professionals? Or Gronk?

Notice how many of the performers are also the usual gang on "celebrity" panel game shows like Match Game?

Another example of something really fake-ish happened in season 5, the episode where Nick Canon is revealed as a singer. He just happens to get voted off the week before he comes back as the host? Come on, it insults our collective intelligence. This "vote off" was 100% planned.

And the judges, just, gross.

What a bunch of smiling dorks, yapping for approval like attention starved puppies. Their guesses are 100% scripted, or they are the dumbest humans on Earth. Sure, that's JUSTIN BIEBER under that mask, you say Jen? One of the most successful and vain people on the planet is on a singing competition show where you are always covered up, that also has Youtubers and Bob Saget. Yes Nicole, sure, that isn't Mark McGrath under that mask, it's David freaking Grohl you say of Foo Fighters, one of the most successful touring bands in the US? Sure. I'm sure he has nothing better to do than be covered up 99% of his performances.

And stop with the fake crying. Near constant brushing away of tears that were never there. Why is every performance so supposedly "heartfelt?"

"That rendition, of love shack...you touched me. I want to be in your shack!"

Btw, the judges are guessing overly famous people to make the audience think such people might actually be on this show. They won't ever be.

Also, I hope everyone knows the audience is 100% not real, a trick of Hollywood magic. Please stop recycling old footage to "create" an audience. Even when they were real their dancing was definitely choreographed.

Again, if they fake some things, why not fake everything?

Before I watched the premiere of the show I was totally prepared to hate it and give it a trash rating. But as I watched it I really must confess that I enjoyed it and I couldn't wait to see who was behind all of those masks. I've heard some really talented voices coming from behind those masks. Call me crazy but it sure beats the hell out of the Bachelor! And that crap has been on TV for 20 some years

Fun. But the hosts are annoying.

Jenny is so full of herself.

Nicole keeps flaunting her chest by spreading her arms while leaning forward every time a singer impresses her.

Going Downhill Each Season

I began watching in season 3. While I think the show wastes a lot of time, the panelists excessive talking gets incredibly tiring and Jenny McCarthy is annoying as ever, I enjoy guessing who the masked singers are. That being said, that's pretty much the only thing I like about the show. It's badly produced and edited, especially since the pandemic started. The fake audience is ridiculous. It doesn't need an audience, especially using old clips from previous years. They should be focusing on the singers instead. I'm unsure whether I'm watching it next season, it's gotten pretty bad and the talent was bleak this (5th) season. This show needs a total revamp, if not it should be cancelled.

Family Fun

This is my first review because I feel like the hundred-something votes don't do this show any justice. With that being said, I've only seen the first episode, so I can't say that it is going to continue to be as exciting. What I do know is that my entire family was engrossed within the first 10 minutes, and my dad is excited for the next shows. He isn't one to get excited about competition shows (like AGT and The Voice), but he keeps talking about how he can't wait for the last episode to reveal the performers. I realize that some people are going into this show expecting the stars to be top celebrities and that some of them aren't is "disappointing," but I think it makes it more exciting because you dont know if the person behind the mask is Hollywood fame or YouTube fame. Secondly, I like that the judges each have very different backgrounds because that gives even more outrageous guesses about whose behind the mask and makes it more exciting at the end to laugh at how ridiculous some of the guesses are. Finally, I also like the audience gets a say in who moves on each week because that gives an element of viewer choice; even though the people watching the show from a screen don't have a say.

I don't recognize the judges or the contestants when they are revealed. The commentary is distracting and plain. The reactions of judges feel forced. Nick Cannon is annoying.

Love It or Hate It

Not all music lovers will like this show. The masks are just a distraction so that you can listen to the voices and discover their hidden (or terrible) singing talents. Sometimes it's baffling how the professional singers get eliminated so soon. I get the concept and some just don't get it. The most annoying person would have to be Nick Cannon. His fake hosting will always make me say "this guy already knows who is under each mask". During every reveal, he can give a full description of the celebrities' credentials immediately after the mask is lifted. And the more I watch the panelists, they look like they know the identity of each contestant.

Still, it's quality time with my young daughter.

I want what the judges are on!

Seriously, they're as excited as a 5 year old being told Christmas will be every day smh. It's annoying and unbearable, and detracts from the show. Like, simmer down thar peeps, before you pee your pants. Ease up on the speed. Aside from that, I don't know why this dumb show is so popular, it's infantile and boring.

Now I had doubts about this thinking that it was going to be corny and cheesy and believe me it was. But surprisingly, it was very fun and enjoyable. if you take Clue and combine it with American Idol, you get The Masked Singer. Now yes, only one episode premiered so far so I cant say much but I'm excited to see what The Masked Singer brings.

I truly believe this show is fixed. Season 1 & 2 winners were really good but NOT even close to the second place winners that should have won.

This show is complete garbage, but like glee , america's got talent, the voice, and American idol, society has become a bunch of mindless robots... it's truly terrible... Especially when good shows get booted for mindless garbage like this!!!

I believe it can. You know how listening to Beethoven is supposed to make babies smarter when played to them before they are born? This is the exact opposite. You will lose brain cells and literally become dumber every second that you watch this. The fact that it is so highly rated makes me terrified about the future.

A Hippo Walks Into A Karaoke Bar...

The first episode of "The Masked Singer" was all that it promised to be. Part mystery, part talent show, it is good, clean fun of a schlocky nature. Maybe not as good as "The Gong Show", but also not as schlocky.

The celebrity vocalists--whose identities are obscured by elaborate costumes--are pitted against each other in twosomes. Audience members vote for their favorites. At the end of the show, the panelists decide which of the three episode losers is eliminated. And that performer's identity is revealed.

The panelists are the funny Jenny McCarthy, the mostly unfunny Ken Jeong, and the beautiful and musical Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke. Robin seems the most insightful. Nick Cannon handles the limited duties of host.

Along the way, clues are given as to the singers' identities--- in a video package and by the singers themselves. These clues can be cleverly ambiguous. The First performer to leave was "The Hippo", who I had pegged as Chris Paul, but I was wrong.

Some of the singing is quite good, making the mysteries more intriguing. Also on the first episode was "The Peacock", whose poster used to be on your mother's wall; "The Monster", who had fallen from grace, but was coming back into the public eye; "The Unicorn", who is from a wealthy family and is nicknamed "Bird"; "The Deer", whose clues mention ravens and his love of horses (can it be anyone but Terry Bradshaw?); and "The Lion", who is kind of Hollywood royalty and who I understand to be re-emerging from her absence dedicated to mothering her daughters.

Other celebrities will be added in later episodes. I am hoping that one is Ariana Grande, whose is a master of impersonation.

Don't get sidetracked by the red herrings. And just enjoy the show for what it is: an entertaining diversion.

Update 1/11/19. The net is rife with guesses about the masked identities. Many guesses by the show's panel ignore the biggest clue---the singer's voice. This show is a blast. My guess for the poodle is Diana Agron.

Update 2/8/19: Surprisingly, Ken Jeong is funny in this show. So much the better.

Update 8/9/19: As the next season approaches, I find myself eagerly anticipating. More than other shows. That is worth an upgrade of 1 point...for a total of 8.

Update 10/17/19: Surprisingly, the best moments are when a masked singer touches the heart of the judges and audience. Who expected sentimentality?

I've been a full supporter and watcher of this show thus far. Even though the past seasons have their cheesy moments, this season has taken it a little too far.

Cluedle Doo, an incessant amount of Wild cards, Nick Cannon as a contestant. It's far too much. Honestly the only thing missing in my opinion was Nick Cannon providing a first impression guess since he always seems to claim he knows the person.

This is my first review because I'm amazed at the critical, insulting reviews. First of all, there are plenty of very big name people on here. It was suggested that there never would be. One of my favorite singers is a contestant and hasn't even been revealed yet. I binge watched the first season thru Hulu and am now anxiously awaiting every new episode. It's fun and intriguing! Who cares if it doesn't follow the original Korean version, which I've never seen. Hope this show has several more seasons! My family who ranges in ages from 6 to 45 all love it!

I enjoy this show with my family, until Nicole ends up with plunging necklines to show off sparkly boobage. I thought this was a family show. Could we just let the stars in the costumes shine without the boobies making a scene on either Nicole or Jenny to steal the spotlight? The judges panel is impressive enough without all the "girls" making an appearance every show. What is this...the Super Bowl Halftime show now? Besides, the guys sparkle enough as it is between Nick's shoes on stage and Ken jumping up to share that he knows "exactly who this is." The show is good enough on its own. Don't cheapen it. Keep it classy.

This could be a slightly better show, if the judges weren't overacting so much. Between their phones amazement t and their absolutely feigned guesses.

This show is, let's face it, not going to attract A list singers and actors for the most part. Guessing names like Lady Gaga, or Meagan Markle? Those are not people who are going to show up here. Mostly it is for players who, like the panelists, have nothing big going on.

People are too harsh on this show. I think it's a great concept that leaves you on the edge of your seat. When I watch the show, I'm dying to find out who will be unmasked!

The idea behind the original Korean show was to allow singers who may have fallen out of the public eye due to bad circumstances to regain the public's attention by being disguised when they sang so that the audience would not have any preconceived notions.

This thing is simply Homer Simpson level celebrity chasing. Who is that? Deon Sanders? Gladys Knight? etc.? Sanders is a sports legend. Knight is a music legend. They don't need rediscovery.

This is the type of reality show Fox used to pump out in the early 2000s. Remember trash tv classics like Joe Millionaire, Who Wants to Be A Princess, Who Wants to Marry A Millionaire, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance, Who Wants to Marry Harry, Unan1mous, Who's Your Daddy (not sure this ever made it to air), The Swan, and best of all, Mr Personality -- that Monica Lewinsky dating show where all the guys wore masks? Yeah, this show is basically their return to form.

Skip it. Your IQ will thank you for it.
