Interesting take on the real life "Baby Squillo" scandal. Cheesy at times but manages to draw you in.
WhateverIWant2913 July 2020
I'm only writing this review to clarify a couple of things that I saw in other reviews. Before I that I'll say that this series is by no means perfect, but it's enjoyable and there's enough good material there to binge watch. It's not a must, but it is an intriguing look into a dark world.

People are saying that they don't like that the characters come from wealthy families and have little relatable problems or that the prostitution element is not realistic- FYI - The series is based on the real life underage prostitution scandal that erupted within a wealthy community - the "Baby Squillo Scandal". Wealthy prep school girls from a private school and also appeared to have little problems (on the surface), were at the centre. The only thing that isn't touched upon enough is the corrupt officials that were clients. The real life client list held the names of politicians, police officers, UN Ambassadors etc... and police believe the high profile clients were aware that the girls in the real scandal were only 14 and 15. When you think about Baby in real life terms, it's actually dark and disturbing but it also shows how easy it is to groom teens. It reminds us that young people are not completely aware of the impact of their decisions and what they are really doing no matter how "grown up" they try to act.

Give it a chance
La-rossa3 December 2018
From the first episode I wanted to give this 3/10 but then it got juicier. The story portrays the life of some desperate teenagers with family issues, seeking for attention, starving for love and care which is not too far from reality. Making mistakes, learning how to take responsibility for their own actions, getting to know who they really are... It's not bad if you give it a chance!

good cast, good directing, good pictures
contact-379111 December 2018
Not quite what I expected: I thought the "poor little rich girls" setting would get old pretty quick but it doesn't; storytelling is pretty slow (shall I say European-paced?) but pretty gripping. Some subplots are less convincing than other but still, this is a show I enjoy quite a lot.

Good Euro show
carlos-42-9940291 December 2018
Character development is good, it is a fun plot and it is shot very nicely. English voiceover is funny, but I watched it with CC and it is fine. It is all buttoned up in the end so not sure a season 2 is needed, but I would entertain the idea of more misadventures from the cast.

Surprising

I thought this was going to be an average teenage drama, but i was surprised. The storytelling is very good and the plot is way more diverse than i thought. Hoping there will be another season

Stereotypes, no sense dialogues, banality but anyway enjoyable
user04208 December 2018
If you are 20+, probably it will be hard to make it through this series, because BABY's target is not you. Said that, I saw all the episodes in two evenings. It's true that I hadn't other interesting shows to see, but I have to admit that this mini-series is quite addictive and I precisely don't know why.

What I absolutely disliked: all the characters come from wealthy families, they attend a private school and their only problem is to find love. Obviously, the classic stereotypes are massively present: the rich rebel teenager that lost his mother and has an absent father, the rich girl whose parents are going to divorce, the girl with a rich absent father and that lives with her moody mother, the omosexual guy that hides his nature to his father and finally the spoiled teenager that is completely superficial. Furthermore, the dialogues seem to be written by a teenager that read a lot of quotes around the web. Obviously, the plot is quite trivial.

Despite all of this, I have to say that the photography actracted me, as well as the always beautiful Rome as background. I liked the acting, it's not so usual to see good young Italian actors and actresses.

If you want to feel young and forgot your adult problems for some hours, watch this show without questioning, just appreciating that for what it is, an high-budget italian series for teenagers.

Deserves more than 8 stars! Absolutely devastatingly true portyal of teenage emotions!
dparag1411 July 2021
Against the prejudice involved about this show, it's a very good show. Takes 2-3 episodes for you to get hooked on to it. But once you are, its so engrossing and involving with the love & drama. Its an emotional roller coaster ride to watch. Amazing acting by all, expecially the main characters.

Really deserves 8-9 stars TBH. And let me just appreciate the OST. ITS SO BEAUTIFUL, such a great selection of songs and at such perfect timing. Just brilliant. Def worth a watch!

CamiIt was really amazing. I never pity my time!!!

Warning: Spoilers
This week I bingewatched all the 3 seasons. The 1st season was amazing. Then It got complicated in 2nd season. What these troubled teens were doing really annoyed me. But, then I was in love with Ludo. In 2nd season she was so hot. And Nicco was also my crush whole season. But then I fell in love with Chiara. She was so hot. I loved how serious and calm she was. This blonde never ceased to amaze me till the last moment. So my rating was 10/10. But after having watched, I reconsidered some points. For example, I could never wait the release of a new season If I watched it when it was first premiered. Secondly, the show is too easy to be forgotten so I couldn't watch it again. It's too much complicated (that may be the reason why Elite is more famous and higher rated than it). Overall, It's more than good. Now, I can watch some Italian tv series unquestionably. Despite all the minuses, for the hottest girls like Chiara (BTW I'm so pissed that I didn't get enough of Chiara and Nicco. That was the main reason of watching the tv show), Ludo (I'm disappointed that she didn't end up together with Fiore), Camile (she was so beautiful, underrated character I didn't get to see her in the last episode). And for the hottest guys like Niccolo (my only reason of watching), Fiore (When he was working with Damiano, I was saying the same thing about him but damn, Fiore was so hot) and Brando (you know the reason why. OMG his smile). So, that was my full review about Baby (2018-2020)

Interesting premise, poorly developed
frank9419 December 2018
As with many international Netflix shows, the story doesn't live up to its premise. Stereotyped, predictable, boring. Very disappointing. You get the feeling Netflix invested more in the poster than in the actual scripts. One star is for the soundtrack and the other for the lead actress Benedetta Porcaroli, who manages to stand out from the general mediocrity.

Solid italian teen drama
manugw7 December 2018
Italian upper middle class teenagers coming from disjointed homes seek to enjoy freedom and pleasure coming close to dangerous situations and dubious adult characters. Good cast, fast paced episodes. Compelling

Superficial trash
icymi-3790619 December 2018
The two leads were attractive and the acting wasn't bad, but the characters written in such a shallow way, that I couldn't stand them by the end.

I could at least relate to Camilla or Fabio, but the stories of Chiara and Ludovica and their love interests were less interesting than most adult film plotlines.

And Niccolo? what kind of random, half baked plotline was that?

I honestly don't get the appeal of this show.

I've loved Italian cinema for the most part... but this was very disappointing

Season 3 was the best out of all 3!
gallagherkellie20 September 2020
This was a great show based off a true story. It doesn't put cotton wool over things, it's realistic and gritty and sad. The friendship these girls have is amazing, although of course I do done any of the decisions they made. Season 3 was great and quite emotional. I'm happy with the way it ended.

Much Too Appealing
nojazzhere10 June 2022
I'm about to begin watching the final episode of the first season.....so I'm not commenting on the entire series. I may come back after I finish (and right now I plan on finishing) and give a final evaluation......but up to this point, I understand the complaints by those opposed to exploitation of women, and particularly underage girls. The episodes I've seen so far make prostitution FAR too attractive and exciting. The fact that they don't show explicit sex scenes make the interaction between young girls and their "Johns" way too mild and "sanitary". The Johns are portrayed as kind, gentle guys, like an innocent "date". They are PAYING for sex in reality, and without getting into a discussion about legalities or morality, exploitation of underage girls is NOT innocent or without damage. The producers make it appear glamorous and exciting........ I'll reserve final judgement for after watching the full series.....there may be consequences in later episodes.... I'll see.

HAve to get to season 3
cecy_dip22 October 2020
The show really gets fixed by the end of season 3, bringin sense about responsibilities and relationships. Otherwise the whole time it's just about non-justifiable teenage drama, exaggerated and unnerving.. Honestly i just watched it cause i miss italy, and this send me back to it ( cause of the language and scenery)

got more real as time went on
gracegateee26 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched season 1 a few years ago, and then seasons 2 and 3 this week. I think the concerns of glamorizing the topic were extremely valid after watching season 1, however the tone switches in 2 and 3. The true evil of the people exploiting young girls, the danger of the situation, and the girls' lack of awareness about their manipulators shows in 2 and 3. Even the film style in the scenes of Chiara and Ludo "at work" were made less sensual and more heartbreaking. It was much harder to watch because it was supposed to be. The addiction like attachment (that particularly Chiara had) for the job isn't framed as fun or beneficial in any sense during the last two seasons. I think the growing darkness as the show went on was perfect to catch the situation from the victims/survivors perspectives. At first it was fun, reckless, and new. But they got in over their heads and were left gutted. I think if people watch the entire series they will see that all play out. That's just me, but I could definitely sense a change in tone and writing/visual choices to make it less "fun" and more tragic.

Teen Soap - Italian style
G_top1 December 2018
In "Baby," a popular Italian television show, the cast is filled with young, attractive actors who have great chemistry with each other. The production values are impressive, providing a visually stunning experience for viewers. What sets this show apart from other US-produced shows is its unique Italian setting and the exploration of different social norms. However, some may find the romantic relationships between the young characters and much older partners uncomfortable to watch, though it may be appealing to others.

Overall, "Baby" offers an entertaining take on the young adult soap genre, with likeable characters and a captivating plot. However, with the emergence of "Euphoria" (2019-), the bar for YA dramas has been raised significantly. Unfortunately, the second season of "Baby" falls short in comparison and is best left unwatched. Compared to the edginess of "Euphoria," "Baby" now feels as bland and uninspired as a bar of floral-scented soap.

18 is too much?
kosmasp8 November 2020
Now before you on a bender or lose yourself, I'm talking episodes here. Because before I go into anything else, this 3 season show has a total of 18 episodes. Which in my opinion are too many. The story could have been told in way less episodes than that, even if it don't seem to be that many.

Now if you know a little bit about this, you know this is a coming of age story, revolving around teenage girls in Italy. And the drama aspect of that, the relationships and the acting itself are really good. It's a sensible subject and the show goes through it without too much fancy stuff. We get occasional cliches (tough boy attitudes, gay love being subject of harassment and so forth) ... overall it deals decently with those things.

Still as I said, even while I think this is overall good, it just stretches certain things to a degree, where you can feel that substanced is missing to fill the minutes you just watched. A good show with great performances, that will impact you or not depending on your views and probably gender too

Glamorizing the sexual exploitation of young girls
icegirl-9472125 January 2019
Whoever thought it would be a "fun" idea to make a show about two young girls who are sex trafficked without being honest about the dangers, rape, violence, violation of human rights and typical zero income whatsoever, forced addiction, murder, and horrific situations the real victims of trafficking are put in every single day is doing a serious disservice to human kind and victims through out the world. What an absolute disgrace on every level imanganable.

Interesting watch but it has its flaws
msbecca0013 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was intrigued by Baby at first. The fact that it was based on a true story was what drew me to it. Also because I'm learning Italian and was pleasantly surprised when it popped up on Netflix. Now, I'll start with the positives. The storyline and plot is, like I said, intriguing. It reminds me a little bit of Élite. I liked the way it slowly unraveled. I've read some other reviews which critised it, but I'm European so I'm used to the kind of "slow" pace. I'm also a teenager so I like these kinds of silly teen dramas. Now, to the negatives. I didn't like Ludo, one of the main characters. I don't want to be mean but she really annoyed me. The actress who played her wasn't very good, compared to the other actors on the show. I also had a problem with the way it sort of glamourised prostitution. The characters barely doubted getting into it, and after their first "jobs" they were celebrating and encouraging each other. Next, one of the most annoying things in this series was how they used social media. I found it highly unrealistic and cringe-worthy. As a teen myself, I feel like no one my age actually uses social media the way that they did in the series? And lastly, even though I compared it to Élite, it's just not as good. I watched Élite before Baby, so I had high expectations for Baby. But it just wasn't as good. Maybe not as realistic? Not as touching? I can't really put my finger on it. However, if you like teen dramas then I do recommend this for you. But don't expect to get more than that.

Good
gabogo086 December 2018
Interesting start, it was kind of difficult to me to get adapted to the style of the show, but I think that´s because I haven't seen a lot of Italian shows, the direction was remarkable, but I feel like there was a lot of empty dialogs, the end was very hurried up, and the whole show could have been much more. The characters were okay, but again I felt like there was a lack of delving. In conclusion, the show was just okay.
