Dr. J. Allen Hynek, after the closure of Project Blue Book, went on to state many of the stories were left out of the project and encouraged further investigation. He was once the biggest pain to the entire project, as he claimed 20% of the stories were "unexplained by conventional explanations".
The episode is loosely based on the Gorman dogfight incident of October 1, 1948.
In the beginning of the episode, the clip that the generals and Defense Secretary Fairchild are viewing is from the film The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951).
The term "Dogfight", as used in the title, refers to aerial combat between aircraft.
At the beginning of the episode when Lieutenant Fuller is flying over the football game, he states, "Down by ten? Come on, guys." in reference to the home team (Titans) having the lower score. If you look closely, the scoreboard says, "Home 14; Visitors 24".
