It's true that Amy Sedaris's comedy isn't for everyone. Either you like her or you don't. She's uncomfortably strange which is part of her charm. At Home With Amy Sedaris is an excellent display of Amy's comedic performance, it's as if a neurotic, outlandish 50s house wife that most likely never leaves her house landed her own TV show. Each episode possesses an excellent dose of comedy that helps the d.i.y. style story line flow naturally. Amy's ability to disguise her jokes as regular conversation and perform ridiculous actions that appear normal makes the entire show non-stop funny. In addition to this, the show's set is a feast for the eyes. Not only does the set look amazing, but it creates an environment which allows the viewer to suspend disbelief and really immerse themselves into Amy's charming, strange world.

You either "get" Amy's humor or you don't. If you don't, you probably won't like this show. If you do, you'll think it's hilarious as I do. Also many satisfying nods to Strangers With Candy. I was laughing so hard on the first episode I had to re-watch it because I missed so much.
Brilliant Show

How anyone could call this show "hipster humor" (Sedaris is over 50) and "unfunny", I cannot fathom. This show has great characters, surreal writing, and is the most original thing on cable television at the moment. Perhaps it's on the wrong network and attracting negative attention from people who like to watch things like "Hardcore Pawn" and "Lizard Lick Towing".
Don't miss this!

As opposed to the obviously dried up sense of humor that the above review stated, this was a hilarious show. With a quick wit and perfect timing, I completely enjoyed Amy's craziness. Definitely do yourself a favor and give this show a shot. In the first episode, the knife sharpener was a comedic surprise. I am looking forward to what she's got next!
This show is great! Watch it.

I love this show, Amy is wonderful and the different characters she plays are hilarious! I had seen the commercials for the show a few times and one day I happened to be walking by the TV just as "Entertaining for Peanuts" started. I could not walk away. The "Hobo" with the foot fetish came on and I was hooked. I hit rewind, called my wife into the room and we laughed together for 30 minutes. The show is now set to record every episode. Thank Amy and supporting guests for some fun!
I don't understand the hater comments....

This show is truly one of a kind and presents Amy at her best! Give the show a watch and if you find it's not your brand of humor, just stop watching it. No need to give a negative review to a show that puts in the effort. I feel like negative reviews cause niche shows like this to be canceled too soon. We have too many bland comedies on the air right now. I don't want be reduced to watching shows like Big Bang Theory to get my comedy fix!
I love Amy

Incredible, unique and extremely funny! Amy has an awesome and sometimes strange sense of humor that is right up my alley!!! She is beautiful and talented! All of the other characters are great too, especially knife guy and lady in the woods! Always surprise guests to look forward to as well! Keep up the great work!
Hit and miss, but parts are hilarious

Wow, the reviews here are all 10s or 1s! What's up with that?!
At home is a very silly parody of Martha Stewart that is essentially Amy a a cast of side characters (many also played by Amy) who come in, say some wacky stuff, and leave.
Segments vary pretty radically. Some parts are terrific; I love the passive-aggressive relationship between The Lady in the Woods and her partner, and a couple of times a hilariously psycho knife guy has turned up. Other times the show is just kind of odd, or stupid, or mildly amusing.
It's also clear that Amy really is into this Martha Stewart stuff. My crafter girlfriend really loves the crafting segments because they resonate with her. And sometimes the show gives actual, usable instructions for cooking or crafts.
I might not stick with this if my girlfriend wasn't such a fan, but it's enjoyable.

At Home with Amy Sedaris is back for a 2nd season with all her characters and odd-ball situations she gets herself into. When you have a show this good a reviewer cannot write enough glowing praise for the entertainment and laughs this show brings.
My two favorite characters being Patty Hogg and Nutmeg !! I hope she keeps these two throughout this season!

Nothing Else Like It

This show has a refreshing setting, off the wall humor, and great characters. One minute you'll be caught off guard by a random joke, the next you'll feel at home with one of the recurring characters. Take my advice, let go of reality, and appreciate Amy Sedaris' genius.
Each episode is a little adventure

This comedy is a well thought out take on American talk shows, cooking shows, sitcoms and a reflection of Amy Sedaris' own life. It has a sketch-like body, but a Sitcom-like feel.
Amy Sedaris has always proven herself to be an entertaining comedian as well as a fascinating and unique spectacle. She captures the audience and takes them along on her little adventures. Her performance is spread across multiple characters, displaying her dynamic ability of character acting and comedic facial expressions.
Characters such as Ruth (Heather Lawless), Chassie (Cole Escola), and Knife Guy (David Pasquesi) are hilarious additions to Amy Sedaris' multiple characters, including her self played character and Patty Hogg. The show also contains multiple comedian guest stars such as Michael Cera, Jane Krakowski, and Rose Byrne.
Each episode has it's own little kitsch that gives each episode it's own individual feeling, yet stays harmonious with return characters and common segments like the "Crafting Corner" to keep the show grounded.
It is a must-see show for any sitcom or sketch-comedy fan. Those who love quick-witted jokes, physical comedy, bright colours, modern takes and overall quirkiness will enjoy this show.

Hilarious, Kitschy Surrealism
skinnygaillard26 December 2021
Living in the UK, I haven't been exposed to much of Amy Sedaris other than her roles in 'Raising Hope' and 'My Name Is Earl' (plus that Lenor ad). She was brilliant portraying earnestly ridiculous characters in those shows, and 'At Home' is no exception; she writes and plays quirky characters really well. Her expressions, voices, and mannerisms are always funny. Patty Hogg is a particular favourite character; there's something believable and familiar about her idiosyncrasies.
The set and formatting of the show has enchanting mid-century charm; it's absurd, colourful, and kitsch with almost Seuss-like surrealism, and Amy's humour is perfect for cutting through the sweetness of these premises. Without being sickeningly raunchy, dark, or cramming in contemporary social issues, she creates a fantastic parody of yesteryear's homemaking shows. This is a rarity nowadays, and I sincerely appreciate the escapism of being At Home with Amy Sedaris.

Wish this was on Netflix so people could see what real comedy looks like.

Great sketch show that hits because it's got old fashioned talent, something so many shows lack nowadays. Doesn't rely on social issues / woke nonsense like so many Netflix shows, it's just her funny self. I'm not suggesting it would be be offensive to anyone I'm just saying it's funny because Amy is funny and it exists in her own imaginary world and social issues are not part of it. Refreshing and highly recommend. If you like her 90s stuff and Kids In The Hall, Mr. Show etc, you'll like this.
Enjoyable Satire

Peak Amy

This is what she's been moving towards her whole life and it's amazing.
And for anyone else who's going nuts trying to figure it out, the stock footage of the audience applauding on At Home With Amy Sedaris is from The Muppets Take Manhattan. That one excited balding guy is the one who shouts "hey Kermit, maybe next time we'll see you all on Broadway!" I hope I've provided enough matching words for a future me-copy to find this in their search 🤞🏻

Mislabeled as comedy

I wanted to like this show, but alas, it was not even chuckle-worthy. This was painful to watch. The writing seems to come from the same terrible teams that produce award show skits. So, the awards shows will probably love it. Feel free to give it a shot... everyone's sense of humor is different. I will look for Amy elsewhere, when this show goes dark.
Really fun with very fun guest stars!

John Waters Does Peggy Mann
owen-watts3 August 2020
I've been a David Sedaris fan for decades, although the idiosyncratic comedy of his sister largely passed me by I thought I'd check this out when it appeared in 2017. Since then I've never been disappointed by it and I'm addicted to her strange wit - this surrealist home-making show, taking the very specific format of the "cooking, crafting and local business owner chat show" of North Carolina's Peggy Mann and adding a heavy chunk of satire and featuring a glowing cast of oddballs (including Amy as various different characters) and a veritable who's who of contemporary legendary comedy actors it really is a seriously underrated gem.
I remember being super happy it got a second season, let alone a third - how much mileage there really is on this offbeat vehicle is hard to say but I'm deeply grateful it was made in the first place and it just seems to get more confident and weirder as the years pass. It's certainly not for everyone, sitting in a strange American niche comedy shelf somewhere between John Waters exaggerated kitsch and the wry improv of the Christopher Guest films but it's definitely entirely for me. Whatever was in the water in the Sedaris house growing up I'm pretty convinced should be a nationally distributed substance.
