War Games is Back, BayBay!!
NXT is clearly the future. it is one of the best pro-wrestling shows on today. And the reintroduction of the War Games match has taken the show up a notch.
For those unfamiliar with War Games, it was a match created by Dusty Rhodes in which one giant cage with a roof surrounds two rings beside each other. Three teams of 3 compete in a gruelling bout that is a bit similar to a survivor series match. Here, the match is a bit different. There is no roof; if anybody escapes the cage their team forfeits. Good psychology is added. And instead of of one person being added every few minutes, an entire team gets added. Once all 9 men are in the ring, first pinball or submission wins.
First match was Kassius Ohno (aka Chris Hero) being beaten by Lars Sullivan. Sullivan is NXT's monster and one of my favourite guys on the roster. He looks just like Maurice Tillett. Definitely the same bone disease. Anyway, the match was good, nothing more. 7/10
Next up was NXT's most mystique going at it: the black metal/horror oriented badass Aleister Black and the David Bowie/gay-Jimi Hendrix Velveteen Dream. Dream is far too gay to be taken seriously. I'm not knocking gays, but this seems to be a mockery. The match was very weird and there was too much mystique for me to get into it as much as others. But I liked it for what it had. I'm glad Black won. Now both men can move on. 7.5/10
NXT women are awesome. Easily the best women wrestlers in the world, in my humble opinion. There has been no NXT Women's Champion since Asuka was forced to relinquish it a few months ago. Ember Moon (my favourite) defeated Nikki Cross (my second), Kairi Sane and Peyton Royce in a sweet bout! Asuka presenting Moon with the belt was icing on the cake. 9/10
The NXT championship match was the only drawback of the night. I have been a huge Drew McIntyre fan since day one. Andrade Almas is one of NXT's hottest stars. I totally don't get it. His matches aren't great. His move-set isn't anything special. He's not original by any means. His mic skills and acting are bland. He's no different than an Ohno Cezar Bononi. On the other hand, everything about Drew is pitch perfect. I understand Almas was deserving of something, but this is too much. The match was very good, but had a bad finish. I would have given it a higher rating if not for an average Joe winning. 7.5/10.
Lastly was the War Games match. I haven't seen all 20-some War Games matches, but I do thing this is one of the best. Sanity are the tag champs and the hottest stable in NXT. The Authors of Pain are also great. Undisputed Era is Ring of Honour's hottest stars Adam Cole, Bobby Rush, and Kyle O'Reilly wreaking havoc on WWE's performance centre. Roderick Strong was paired up with AOP and felt out of place. It could have been worse. These nine gave it their all in a match with lots of mayhem and carnage to satisfy and keep excited. The ROH guys won in an awesome bout. Honestly, 10/10
