Absolutely Exhilarating
Firegecko3 September 2019
The greatest and most intense hour of television I've seen since Breaking Bad's 'Ozymandias'. Using Disturbed's cover of 'The Sound of Silence' was a stroke of genius.

Wow what an action packed suspenseful episode. * SPOILERS *
larosat-3282116 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
We've suspected the imminent death of Tom since the beginning of the season and this episode had him going out in a heart wrenching style; as he fought nearly a half dozen goons to save the woman he loves. And already being mortally wounded to boot. It's amazing what the human body is capable of when fighting to protect someone they love more than themselves. And that classic song played as they were raced to the hospital was jaw dropping emotional; especially seeing the worried and concerned looks of the team. A perfect 10. I do have to agree with the goofs section stating Liz's calm demeanor when she woke up with that ET tube in her mouth but a minor quibble on an otherwise superior episode. Bravo to the cast and crew on giving us an excellent episode when most shows are just coasting by this point Ala the now insufferable The Walking Dead. Hats off!!!!!!

Finally it's back ... Best episode this season so far ..
Aktham_Tashtush16 November 2017
Going back to this level of thrill and suspense seriously calls for celebration, i mean for almost two months the season was going nicely but not the way we used to .. up until the mid season finale .

The Plot still revolved around that bones in the mysterious suitcase , i was expecting we'd finally know who does it belong to, but apparently the level of the excitement couldn't bear another shock after unexpectedly we've lost an amazing character .. and that "you've been out for almost a year" shock :D but all the scenes in general have strongly built up one unforgettable episode and honestly, one of the best mid-season finales in the series.

Finally, my expectations .. the next four episodes will be the biggest ,, because no talks yet about any renewals, which usually takes place this time of year each season ,, so it indicates a final season "which i hope not" but based on the loss we had today,, i think it all might come to an end,, if so .. i'm praying it will be a blast of unforgettable Blacklist shocks ;)

One good reason that this series is underrated? This episode.. Man The song in the final scene(THE SOUND OF SILENCE) goes so damn good.

** SPOILER ALERT ** Well crafted for a single episode.
kokubuklan28 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A very well crafted mid season finale (just realizing that sounds like an oxymoron) as the writers continue to wonderfully milk the mystery of this season's story arc (aka: just whose remains are in the suitcase.) As with most episodes of the Blacklist I'm often overjoyed by their soundtrack selection during pivotal and moving scenes. This episode epitomized that satisfaction especially with the cover of the song "The Sound of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel. If anyone can let me know definitively who covered it that would be great as I thought it was a cover by the band Disturbed; though the music tracks sounded the same I thought the vocals sounded to have a minute difference in vocal tone.

Another aspect of this series I enjoy is its capacity to generate even more despicable personalities just when we've thought to have seen them all. The character for which this episode was titled for being no exception to that mold as we eagerly anticipate his demise by one of our favorite anti-heroes. It does also prompt thoughts of fantasy death-matches between this new brutal character of Ian Garvey and the bat-wielding nemesis of another series. Imagine the conversation during that exchange.

I enjoyed the homage to the Coen Brothers in this episode (you simply cannot miss it) and appreciate all the work involved with this series to keep us interested by incorporating current events (the previous episode's human smuggling theme) and intertwining them with a compelling story arc with evolving characters we've grown attached to.

I would caution viewers of this episode that the writers left a huge window of opportunity open if you consider the circumstances. Granted we are presented with the fact that a main character endured a coma for nearly one year and during that time another character was shelved in a morgue. And though there was a brutal altercation in this episode, that may not necessarily mean an imminent demise was the only outcome.

Nonstop Action
Hitchcoc23 November 2022
Tom and his meddling and self centeredness finally bring the curtain down on him. He comes through when the chips are down, only to bring more pain because he is so obsessed with "the truth." He knows it all, but at least in this installment, we don't get to hear what it is. Of course, those horrors on earth are going to go to the apartment. They never stopped pursuing Tom. It's astonishing to see some reviewers giving this a single star. That's beyond stupid. It will be interesting with such a passage of time to see where this takes Elizabeth. I enjoyed both the Sounds of Silence and Red reading "Invictus."

Tense episode but serious mistake
dierregi21 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Tom is still Garvey's hostage, while Red and Dembe are approaching the wood cabin where he's kept prisoner (thanks to Red's spy). From the previous episode, it seemed that Garvey had no clue who Tom was and what was his connection with Red. In fact, Tom immediately convinced Garvey that he worked for Red.

This point is important because what follows is a major blunder. Tom sends Garvey and some of his men to a false location, allegedly to meet Red, while he escapes and bumps into Red and Dembe. The three of them manage to escape Garvey and gang, setting their cars to fire.

At this stage, despite adrenaline flowing, the plot turns into the absurd. Tom lies to Red once more, contacts Liz and tells her to meet him at home, without telling the FBI.

Once Liz enters the apartment, she finds Garvey and his men. How exactly did they knew 1) that Tom would go home 2) that Red would't be with him 3) how did the physically get there so fast, since their vehicles were burned, but most of all 4) HOW THE F..K DID THEY KNOW TOM'S ADDRESS???

However, bad boy Tom was eye candy, even if much of his plot line is totally absurd (but then again, almost everything is, in this show). Therefore I was upset by his violent departure.

Convenient
brrzzpffrt21 April 2020
Generally, this was a faster episode, lots of action, lots of stuff going on. The "antagonist" who is just a super generic dwarf with absolutely nothing special about him and his bland henchmen add nothing, their methods are so over the top as if to make a point, a statement, but serve no purpose inside the scenes. Then someone realized they'd run into a dead end and so they had to make a cut that made no sense, none at all, wherein neither the FBI who'd just before been driving at the speed of light, apparently, nor Reddington, who's always faster than everyone else, made it before the villain who was stuck in nowhere without any means of transportation and must clearly have been way behind, not to mention little intel to go on in comparison to the other parties. So now there's just a big fight going on where everyone else is too late for the sole reason of it having to be that way to read the conclusion that was needed to reach. This feels rushed, badly written. Then, convenient coma to just reset lots and lots of pieces on the board without having to consider credibility at all. I don't get how this is a series highlight with such a high rating when the writing for the typical parts is the same as always and two overly convenient holes in the story need to be there so it even fits together. This is like using clay to fill in for puzzle pieces you can't find.

Warning: Spoilers
May contain spoilers.

Well, I don't ever comment on specific episodes, but this one was a heart wrenching one. With Tom being the ass that he is I was hoping he would get taken out. He was really pissing me off with trying to get between Red and Liz.

Even when he is warned not to get involved over and over he continues till the bitter end and has to be taught the cost of his doggedness by the Garvey.

Even after being saved by Red he still pursued his own agenda. And in doing so nearly gets Liz killed.

This was a satisfactory episode for me and a nice ending to the Keens. I got what I wanted in the end.

Amazing episode
bestfootie30 July 2023
This is one of the best episodes of the series to date.

One has no idea how it is going to play out. The ending is unreal. I was watching with baited breath the entire time.

The episode is full of amazing action scenes, romance, family loyalties and deceit, it's 4am in the morning here and I'm hooked and cannot go to sleep without watching yet another episode.

All the actors in this episode in particular do an amazing job. The suspense is truly what holds this episode together.

At the end of the episode I was thinking to myself "where do we go from here!?".

Life and death. Emotion. Raw. I'm hopeful that it continues to get better and better with even more new plot lines.

Warning: Spoilers
I forgot how Utterly Amazing this episode was, the build-up the music then the pay-off.

It's funny that some people thought this was the last season, when now we are on season 11.

And we still don't know the dam answers.

But it is time for it to be the last season the quality of this episode has not been matched for many seasons.

Slimy Tom finally bites it
Johnny_West3 July 2023
What a great episode! After years of annoying Tom lingering about like some kind of fungus, he finally gets what he deserves.

One odd thing about this show is that it seems like many of the people that get benefits from Reddington are the most resentful against him. Is it just envy? Are they jealous of his success?

Tom was hired by Red to keep an eye on Liz. He was not supposed to have sex with her, but he did, just because he needed to disrespect everything Red wanted him to do. Why Reddington did not exterminate Tom way back when he found out that Tom was bumping it with Liz, is one of those frustrating inconsistencies about Red.

However, good things come to those who wait. After five years, Tom finally gets his face punched in. Tom is finally beaten like the POS that he always was. Tom finally fades out of this series. A great episode of Blacklist!

It's becoming very annoying not knowing what is in this suitcase ; as a fan i'm very mad ; 8 episodes with out knowing what is going on ...the writers should reveal the secret ; i feel i don't want to watch it anymore because it's predictable ; Tom deserved better than that , i did not like it .

How to f up one of the most important episodes
joonaskaukoranta8 April 2018
This is how. I like Blacklist, but this episode is so bad i wish i've never seen it. I don't know where it went wrong, is it director, cutting, producer? But it shows it to audience. Just so bad that i had to come here in the middle of the episode to write it here.

good story, poor fact-checking

Loved the story line, but got totally annoyed by all the errors from a medical standpoint.... if you have major hospital scenes - why not check the facts, the last part was way off...

Nothing but a bunch of clichés
kroma-19-2111921 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, I will start with a spoiler:

the positive thing about this episode is that we get rid of the most annoying character of the whole show.

But the way it happens is so very, very unoriginal that I couldn't help myself and skipped through these kind of scenes we have all seen a billion times. And most of those that I recall where better. A lot better.

Just when I thought this season was becoming unique again - like it was in season 1 and 2 - the writers dug out all clichés you have ever seen in a TV show.

I guess I will continue watching The Blacklist, but right now I'd say this might be because a certain person will (hopefully) not appear again.

How Does This Episode Have 9 Stars????
noonieblount2 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just what is in the suitcase? Heck, I'm going to Google it because this show has not been good since Season 1. I used to love the Reddington character and now I've begun to dislike him. He can just get away with killing people in the name of the FBI without repercussions. I know a lot of people are happy to see Tom's character off the show, but I thoroughly enjoyed Tom. To me he was the most upfront person in the show. He was not a liar. He told Liz everything she needed to know (except the DNA evidence) and he warned her about Reddington. Although she didn't listen and now she went from being naive for the first 4 seasons to being a criminal like her father. But because I lost a bet to a friend and I have to continue watching this drawn out show. Uuugghhhh. I think he enjoys hearing me complain.
