After making a name for himself as a writer, actor, comedian and a must-follow on Twitter, Jaboukie Young-White is on to his next venture: music.
Young-White is dropping his debut album, All Who Can’t Hear Must Feel, this summer via Interscope Records, after the release of three singles earlier this year.
“I kind of Forrest Gump-ed my way into it,” he told THR of his new music career, which began when he was working with Interscope Films as a writer and an executive sent his demo to A&r, leading the label to turn around and offer him a record deal. “It’s always been a very personal thing, so I’m really excited to be able to share it,” Young-White adds, noting that although he’s known for his jokes, he tries to keep the two lanes separate. “I wouldn’t say it’s like musical comedy, but...

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. In its current form, the Best Animated Program Emmy category allows submissions targeted at viewers aged 13 and above, while series and specials made for younger audiences are now relegated to the Children’s and Family Emmys. Potential nominees for this award are also required to have runtimes in excess of 15 minutes.
The 2023 Best Animated Program ballot list below consists of 33 entries. Per category rules, all are either one-off specials or single episodes of continuing series. Seeking their dozenth victory and first since 2019 are the team behind “The Simpsons,” who just wrapped their 34th season. Other shows hoping for repeat wins this year include “Archer,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal,” “Rick and Morty,” and “South Park.”
Unlike the nominees in most program categories, which are chosen by all 20,000 plus academy members, the animated program contenders are picked only by voters from the animation, children’s programming, emerging media programming, and motion and title design branches.

Amazon is pushing deeper into its animated Batman universe.
The retail giant and streamer has officially confirmed its previously reported two-season order for Matt Reeves, J.J. Abrams and Bruce Timm’s animated Batman: Caped Crusader series. Additionally, Amazon has picked up an original animated film, Merry Little Batman, and an animated spinoff series, Bat-Family, both of which — like Caped Crusader — hail from Warner Bros. Discovery’s Warner Bros. Animation and DC.
“Batman: The Animated Series helped pioneer in the evolution of superhero storytelling and defined the Dark Knight for a generation,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios. “Batman: Caped Crusader will no doubt continue that tradition and, alongside Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Animation to offer a variety of takes of the Batman mythos to our global Prime Video customers.”

Find out what shows and movies Andrew Santino, Taylor Misiak, Christine Ko, Travis “Taco” Bennett, and GaTa have been in before, plus who the richest is out of the Dave cast.
Dave ‘Lil Dicky’ Burd and GaTa in season 3 of ‘Dave’ | Byron Cohen/FX Lil Dicky is the wealthiest ‘Dave’ cast member
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lil Dicky is worth an estimated $8 million in 2023. The rapper hasn’t released new music in some time, which means he hasn’t gone on tour and earned money from that revenue stream. Instead, he has been focused on writing new music and his Fxx series.

Batman: Caped Crusader has found a new home at Amazon.
The streamer and retail giant has handed out a two-season order for the animated series that was scrapped at HBO Max last August. Caped Crusader landed at the Jennifer Salke-led streamer after producer Warner Bros. Animation shopped the project following the cost-cutting move that saw parent company Warner Bros. Discovery scrap the show more than a year and a half after ordering it straight to series. Other streamers, including Netflix, Apple and Hulu, also kicked the tires on the project that marks a reunion for executive producers J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, who previously collaborated on The WB Network’s beloved Felicity.
The animated series hails from Bruce Timm, Abrams and Reeves and was sold to a streaming rival as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s efforts to monetize content by selling projects to third-party buyers.

Claws-out high school drama has inspired some pretty memorable movies. Youthful touchstones like Heathers, Cruel Intentions, and Mean Girls take the intensity of hormones and the cruelty of high school students, and mix them with snappy, era-appropriate dialogue and up-and-coming stars. It’s a potent cocktail that when mixed just right yields delicious results. Netflix is looking to follow that template with their new high school revenge comedy Do Revenge, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the co-writer of Thor: Love and Thunder who previously helmed Netflix’s Someone Great and created MTV’s Sweet/Vicious.
Will Do Revenge become the 2020s defacto teens-behaving-badly comedy? Only time will tell, but Do Revenge’s cast is enticing enough to suggest that the alchemy may be right for another mean girl magnum opus. Not sure where you’ve seen some of these fresh-faced stars before? Read below to find out.

Amazon’s Prime Video is bringing back its in-person Emmys For Your Consideration pop-up space, after two years of virtual campaigning due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
But this time, “The Prime Experience” is moving to a new home: A private mansion in the Hollywood Hills, which will be open for Emmy voters to explore from April 30 to May 21. Amazon previously spent three years at the Hollywood Athletic Club for its installation, starting in 2017 and continuing in 2018 and 2019. The pandemic, of course, put a stop to such an event in 2020 and again in 2021.
Amazon is first out with news of a return to an in-person FYC space. Netflix organized a similar activation for its shows (also with a public component) until the pandemic halted such pop ups in 2020; it hasn’t yet revealed when and where its FYC events will be held this year.

‘The Lost City’ Review: Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum’s Chemistry Carries Charming Jungle Comedy
In Adam and Aaron Nee’s “The Lost City,” a wild, careening screwball comedy set in the jungle, the stars are on full display — and they need to be. See, the directing duo are following a similar roadmap used by “Romancing the Stone,” the Indiana Jones franchise, and Tomb Raider: colossal big-budget adventures dependent upon the stars who lead them as much as the exotic locations they call home. Here, a quartet of marquee names carry a knowingly pastiche romp whose lightweight charm somehow impedes its path to rom-com success.
You can’t totally blame the Nees for leaning heavily on their ensemble. In a slapdash comedy filled with big punchlines — and even bigger explosions — they’ve assembled a couple of the best comedic personalities available in Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. The pair portray noted romance novelist Loretta Sage and her steamy cover model Alan as her franchise’s Fabio-inspired champion,...

On Thursday, Amazon announced a rate hike for its Prime membership program in the U.S., which is rising from $119 to $139 per year (up 17%), citing benefits including a stepped-up investment in “high-quality digital entertainment” — including a tripling of TV shows and movies introduced on Prime Video since 2018 — as well as rising wages and transportation costs. In this social media age, experiential events have become a crucial part of entertainment marketing plans. Instagram-friendly pop-ups had become common in recent years — Netflix turning a Baskin-Robbins location into the Scoops Ahoy ice cream parlor from “Stranger Things” or Amazon Prime Video taking over the Hollywood Athletic Club to promote its Emmy contenders, for example.
But then came the pandemic. And marketers were forced to quickly pivot to safe, socially distanced events like drive-in premieres and virtual events such as online watch parties. But as vaccination rates continue to rise, marketers are aiming to balance those digital experiences with more in-person encounters.
Prime Video, for example, plans to promote its new series “Harlem” at the historic Harlem Parish, a New York City church-turned-event space, starting Dec. 3 with festivities dubbed “Harlem Ever After.” For the event, which highlights Black female creators and entrepreneurs, Prime Video is turning the Parish...

The Critics Choice Awards stand out in part because the organization combines film and television categories into one night of mega-celebration. But not all elements are created equal on the road to gold.
Here, Variety breaks down what is notable about the television submission process and side of the ballot for this year’s awards, which take place Jan. 9 in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be simulcast on the CW and TBS.
Two Phase 1 Timelines
The Critics Choice Assn. (Cca) does not require formal submissions for film categories, but it does for the television categories. This year, that period was between Sept. 27 and Nov. 15. The nomination committee began deliberations on Nov. 16, and the TV nominations will be announced on Dec. 6. In contrast, film branch members of the organization won’t receive their nominating ballots until the next day, Dec. 7, with the deadline of midnight Pt Dec. 10 to return film ballots.

Amazon Prime’s new animated series has a zany, anything-could-happen sensibility. Which makes it a little disappointing that what usually does happen is a bleeding-edge cultural reference.
To be clear, “Fairfax,” about a group of middle-school hypebeasts coming of age in image-obsessed Los Angeles, is often very funny in how far it’s willing to push its media-saturated sensibility. More often, though, it can feel bleak, as in thrall to the phenomena it’s satirizing as it is skeptical.
Skyler Gisondo voices Dale, a new student at an Instagram-crazed school, one whose principal holds pep rallies to celebrate pupils getting Ig-verified. His new friend group, made up of characters played by Kiersey Clemons, Peter S. Kim, and Jaboukie Young-White, quickly inculcate him into their grail-seeking universe, in which looking cool — particularly for one’s online audience — is all.
