Sex & Nudity

  • None, aside from some of the equipment worn by the players, which can be revealing.

Violence & Gore

  • The violence in this game is moderate and pretty much bloodless, except that there are a very few scenes of the game that show small amounts of blood. In addition, the game has an epic fantasy setting.
  • As the name implies, this game is all about hunting large and fierce monsters as the player explores open-worlded areas full of these magnificent and sometimes terrifying beasts. They're generally harmless, and they use different mechanisms and abilities to attack and consume their prey.
  • Some of the monsters have appearances that look grotesque, intimidating and sometimes even majestic, like large horns, feathers, scale-covered bodies, large tails, wings, etc. and some of these parts are shown to be sometimes covered in the blood of their targets.
  • Sometimes when fighting the monsters, players can cut off their tails, revealing blood, flesh, skin tissue, muscle and bone on the gory stumps where their tails used to be. Also, when the monsters are wounded, they'll present realistic-looking injuries. This is made all the more real-looking due to the game's realistic and nicely detailed graphics, which besides doing that, also makes this game really stand out.
  • Other than all the mentioned, the violence in this game is your standard ''Monster Hunter''-type of violence as seen in the other games of the series.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • When eating, players are sometimes shown to enjoy drinking alcoholic beverages. They can also be seen doing poses with their drinks.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The monsters can be frightening for some people.
  • The game has a generally dramatic soundtrack during the fights with monsters, and the atmosphere could be somewhat uneasy for some.
  • The monster battles can be very intense, especially when the monsters are very aggresive. As a sidenote, the monsters in this game will not attack the players unless they're provoked, to which they'll immediately retaliate in self-defense.
  • Some of the areas can be unnerving for some.
  • The game, besides being somewhat foreboding with its content (which is not graphic, by the way), has an extremely high difficulty (comparable to "Dark Souls 3", "Ghosts 'n Goblins", "Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels", "Cuphead" and "Donkey Kong Country Returns", among others) that can be really frustrating to some players.
  • Of all the game "Monster Hunter" games, this one has the most monsters and creatures available. They're generally menacing and the roster includes:
  • Diablos: A large, bipedal wyvern with powerful armor plating covering much of its body. Its most noteworthy feature is a pair of massive, solid horns above their eyes. The Diablos also possesses a pair of tusk-like fangs and a large, spiny neck frill. Its tail ends with a heavy, studded club that can be used to ward off attackers. This monsters stands on a pair of stocky, wide-set legs and possesses a broad upper body complete with thick, muscular wings.
  • Black Diablos: The female counterpart of the Diablos, she is almost identical in appearance to her male counterpart, except that her body is black, hence her name. Her shell turns black during mating season to warn other monsters of her heightened aggression and hostility, and as such, is much more violent and aggresive than the normal Diablos.
  • Paolumu: A bat-like wyvern that slightly resembles the Honduran white bat. Like said bat species, the Paolumu is covered in white fur and has a pink face. Though it is covered in fur, the Paolumu also has some brown scales covering its back, underbelly, and tail. The Paolumu has rodent-like buck teeth because its diet consists of the eggs that comes off the coral which it sucks in using its incredible breathing power.
  • Great Jagras: A large creature that strongly resembles an Iguana. It has yellow scales with orange accents and a bluish underside. It also has a distinct mane of hairs that resemble dreadlocks. The monster has incredible stomach capacity and often swallows prey whole, greatly distending its belly. It will spit out whatever it has eaten if it takes too much damage while its stomach is bloated. The Great Jagras is known to leave slide trails on the ground.
  • Legiana: A slim, primarily beige-colored Flying Wyvern characterized by its leaf-like wingtips and striped skin patterns. Legiana's head is topped with a pair of antenna-like fins which are attached via a thin membrane to the back of its neck. It has bright yellow eyes and powerful legs ending in piercing talons. Its face, tail, back, feet, and wingtips are a dark navy blue, and its body is covered in striped patterns of the same colour. Its wings and tail have flaps.
  • Pukei-Pukei: A venomous chameleon-like creature, with eyes similar to frogs. It has a pair of wings and is covered in green scales that vary in color throughout its body excluding its underbelly. Its underbelly is covered in white osteoderm-like protrusions. Despite being reptilian in nature, Pukei-Pukei has vibrant feathers around its neck and wings. Pukei-Pukei was based on flowers and one of its design concepts was of an accordion.
  • Dodogama: A monster that has blue scales with orange stripes covering its body. It has a massive bottom jaw used for storing rocks in its mouth, which will turn orange when it becomes volatile.
  • Uragaan: A large monster that is covered in a lustrous gold-colored hide. Its back is lined with hard crystals and its chin is plated with a rock-like shell, suggesting the Uragaan has evolved a tough exterior due to life in volcanic regions. Its underbelly is covered in a sticky, tar-like substance which it uses to affix explosive rocks to itself.
  • Radobaan: A monster that is very closely related to the Uragaan. It is very similar in appearance, with the same stocky frame, enormous chin, and brow horns as its cousin. Radobaan's most distinctive feature is the covering of bones it adorns itself in, affixed in place via a sticky, tar-like substance secreted its skin. It is typically seen with a spiny row of vertebrae wrapped around its massive chin, along with a pair of massive Diablos horns upon its haunches.
  • Jyuratodus: A monster related to the Lavasioth, and as such resembles a bipedal coelacanth fish. It has two dorsal fins, two pectoral fins, two pelvic fins, and a long, thick tail. Instead of lava, Jyuratodus covers itself in mud and sludge.
  • Great Girros: A monster that greatly resembles a cobra in appearance though it walks on all fours like a monitor. It is covered in black onyx scales and has yellow stripes running down the back of its neck. On the side of its neck is a hood with red gill-like organs.
  • Lavasioth: It resembles a bipedal coelacanth fish covered in hardened lava, which forms a tough outer shell. It has two dorsal fins, two pectoral fins, two pelvic fins, and a long, thick tail to help swim through the thick lava it resides in. Its head is fish-like in nature, with rounded features and large, circular eyes. Its mouth is filled with sharp, needle-like fangs. Its powerful hind-legs end in fins rather than claws, but are capable of supporting it on land.
  • Deviljho: A very large, bipedal Brute Wyvern characterized by its uniform forest green colouration and muscular upper body. Its thick hide is littered with short, jagged spines that reach a maximum height along the back and tail. Deviljho has a narrow snout with a large lower jaw, covered in multiple rows of teeth spreading outwards from the mouth. It has massive, powerful hind legs, but tiny, poorly developed forelegs that it rarely utilizes. Its skin turns red when enraged.
  • Bazelgeuse: A nefarious and large Flying Wyvern covered in thick, heavy scales with a bronze sheen. It has a bulky upper body and a large wingspan. Its underside is lined with protruding scales which are easily shed. The monster occasionally enters a "superheated" state, causing the gaps between its scales to glow red hot.
  • Rathalos: A large, bipedal wyvern with a spiny, armored hide covering its body. Its outer shell features much brighter and more vibrant colors than that of its female counterpart, the Rathian. It is primarily bright red, with black markings throughout. The talons upon its feet are highly poisonous and it's known to inflict toxic mortal wounds on larger prey. In addition, its long, thick tail features a heavy spiked club at the end.
  • Rathian: A medium-sized true flying wyvern similar in looks to her male counterpart, the Rathalos. Her hide is a dull, muted green in contrast to the Rathalos's deep red, and her lower mandible features a long, protruding chin spike. Her upper back and wingtips are covered in a moss-like fur not seen on the Rathalos, and while her clubbed tail lacks bony spikes, it makes up for this with its ability to poison foes upon contact.
  • Tobi-Kadachi: A monster whose face resembles a colubrid in appearance with grayish blue scales covering its slim squirrel-like shape. On its back are patches of white fur as well as a bushy tail covered in rows of spikes. Its front limbs also have a few spikes. Tobi-Kadachi's head, claws, back and tail can be wounded. When the monster is fully charged the fur on its back will stand up.
  • Kulu-Ya-Ku: A creature that has a body shape similar to other raptorial Bird Wyverns, such as Velocidrome. This monster is covered in light brown scales and has a face that greatly resembles a Dodo. Though it is mostly covered in scales, it also has feathers on its head and arms.
  • Kushala Daora: A dragon with metallic skin. Its large wings connect halfway down its tail, making them seem even larger in proportion to its body. Numerous horns line its head.
  • Kulve Taroth: A very large lizard-like dragon covered in a beautiful golden mantle. This mantle covers her entire body, with large blocky scales on her back and a long trailing section down the length of her massive tail. Kulve Taroth's main feature is her massive spiraling horns. These horns resemble lapis lazuli when the gold plating is removed. Without the mantle, Kulve Taroth's scales are gold and black with emerald-like patches.
  • Odogaron: A horrific monster that is covered in red scales and bony protrusions that resemble muscle tissue and bone. Its tail is particularly bony and can be used as a club. The monster has piercing blue eyes. Odogaron's most distinctive feature is its double row of claws, which it uses to inflict deep wounds in its prey. When enraged, red veins will glow on its back.
  • Lunastra: A dragon with leonine features and a cool coloration. It has a prominent mane, large fangs, and a distinct crest that resembles a sort of crown. Its wings are covered in fur. It is the female counterpart to Teostra.
  • Teostra: A dragon with leonine features and a fiery coloration. It has a grand mane, large fangs, and a pair of horns that curve backward. Its wings are covered in fur. It is the male counterpart to Lunastra.
  • Xeno'jiiva: A large dragon with an otherworldly appearance. It has two eyes and six orange glowing spots running up the length of its horns. Parts of its body glow ethereal blue, making its skin appear crystalline and translucent. Its wings are frayed at the edge of the membrane and are grayish-blue in color. When enraged, its torso glows a hot red and orange.
  • Vaal Hazak: A long, slender Elder Dragon with several unique physical features. Its body is covered in silver scales, which are obscured by the fleshy red veil that covers most of its body. It possesses a striking double lower jaw, each with a row of extremely long, sharp fangs similar to those of a deep sea fish. It has two bright yellow spots at the sides of its head and two small red eyes. Its toes and wingtips are adorned with sickle-shaped claws.
  • Kirin: A monster that resembles a unicorn, though a closer look reveals that it is covered in scales rather than a coat. Its majestic white mane and hair stand on end, as if charged with static. This monster often crackles with stray electricity.
  • Behemoth: A creature from another world. It is a colossal quadruped with purple skin and little hair over its body except a mane of black spiked hair on its back. Its body and front legs are absurdly muscular, though its hind legs are less so. The Behemoth's head is vaguely canine with a pair of sharp horns and piercing blue eyes that do not close. Behemoth's thick tail ends in long barb-like hairs. When Behemoth has gained enmity its eyes and body glow red.
  • Tzitzi-Ya-Ku: A medium-sized Bird Wyvern of navy blue coloration that closely resembles a Velicoraptor from the "Jurassic Park" films. It has long, powerful back legs, and muscular forelegs complete with three claws for grasping prey. Perhaps its most unique feature is the pair of retractable frills that line either side of its head, which are bright and vividly colorful in appearance. Its back is lined with a row of short spines, and it has wide sturdy feet.
  • Azure Rathalos: A subspecies of Rathalos that has an azure-colored body, hence its name, is more mobile than its standard cousin and is also much stronger.
  • Pink Rathian: A subspecies of Rathian that is much more venomous than the normal Rathian and has a vibrant pink body, hence her name.
  • Zorah Magdaros: A colossal Elder Dragon covered in a rocky hide. It has turtlelike characteristics, bearing a mountainous shell on its back that it can retreat under while walking on all fours, as well as a beaked mouth. Fire and smoke and lava spew from the creature's shell, making it seem like a walking volcano. This monster strongly resembles Godzilla, and is the largest beast in the entire game.
  • Nergigante: A dragon with a bristly appearance. It is covered in spikes that constantly regrow as they're broken off. It has two massive horns similar to a bull. The monster's hide is primarily black with purple and orange accents. Nergigante is constantly regenerating its skin as it attacks and is struck by hunters. It will slowly grow white spikes on certain body parts, which harden over time. It's extremely brutal, and is the most dangerous monster in the game.
  • These are all most of the monsters that appear in the game, as there a few more. This game overall is filled to the brim with creepy-looking creatures.
