A few months ago, we heard that director Jeff Wadlow and Blumhouse Productions – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – were teaming up for a new horror project called Imaginary, and Lionsgate has acquired the worldwide rights to the film. Now Lionsgate has announced that they will be giving Imaginary a theatrical release on February 2, 2024.
Wadlow has written the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb, Jason Oremland, and Bryce McGuire, crafting a story that sounds like a horror take on the 1991 comedy Drop Dead Fred: A young woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and very unhappy she left.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are co-financing the project. Lionsgate and Blumhouse previously worked together on the 2012 release Sinister. Wadlow is producing the film alongside Blumhouse founder Jason Blum.

This premiered at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival last year, and is opening to watch this month on VOD. The docu-drama film follows the true story of one of the most elaborate art heists of the 20th century, the theft of "Woman-Ochre," Willem de Kooning's iconic painting, and the eccentric couple – both schoolteachers – at the center of the heist. It was cut from its frame at the University of Arizona Museum of Art. 32 years later, the painting was found hanging in a New Mexico home. The film stars Glenn Howerton & Sarah Minnich, with Brandon Ruiz & Hailee Cruzen. This "uniquely combines the strong appeal and captivating nature of crime documentaries together with the true story of one of the most audacious art heists in history,...

Delevingne is pretty good and Mipo O’s story of a single mother struggling to stay afloat has impact – but most are on a spectrum between insipid and awful
Who really likes anthology movies? We’re not talking about multistory films like Short Cuts or Wild Tales – those are often good, even great – but those bundles of shorts by different directors. More often than not they are lucky-dip packages of horror stories, but there are also more pretentious upmarket ones, held together by some thin thematic connective tissue, like the Cities of Love series. Tell It Like a Woman’s only obvious unifying concept is that all the shorts were directed by female directors. It’s depressing for starters that this is still considered enough of a novelty to justify calling attention to it, but it’s also a bummer that the films in this particular rattlebag are mostly sketchy,...

Bj The Chicago Kid and Beats — who has worked on hits like Doja Cat’s “Say So,” “Kiss Me More” and “Woman” — are working on a collaborative album that will be released this summer. Their first single, “Forgot Your Name,” drops Wednesday.
“This project is very different for me. It’s essentially the colliding of Yeti’s world with my world. It’s a unique approach to soul music and serves as our invite to both new and old fans to savor our unique flavor of classic soul,” Bj The Chicago Kid tells The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “I know some folks will call it a concept album, but for me it’s an experiment and exploration of sound...

The Beatles were constantly at the top of the charts during the 1960s. They had 20 No. 1 hit singles and multiple No. 1 albums. Since The Beatles were constantly at the top, it blocked others from reaching that goal and even prevented a song written by Paul McCartney from becoming a No. 1 single.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon were a dynamic songwriting duo that led The Beatles to become global superstars. However, not every song they wrote was instant gold. A few of their songs were rejected by The Beatles, and other artists often collected and reused their recycling. For example, McCartney wrote “A World Without Love” for The Beatles, but Lennon disliked it, and they gave it to Peter and Gordon.

What happens when someone dies has been one of the most explored questions since the birth of religions. Some believe in heavens and hells, others in reincarnation, and an increasingly large number of people, in plain unison of decomposing bodies in nature. The WGA East and Hearst Magazines Media have reached a tentative agreement for a first-time contract covering some 500 of the publishing giant’s writers, producers, and editors at 28 brands, including Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Town & Country, Good Housekeeping, Popular Mechanics, Car & Driver, Oprah Daily, Seventeen, Elle, Redbook and Woman’s Day.
The deal, which averts a threatened strike, comes after more than two years of on-again, off-again bargaining and “is a shining example of the Wgae’s commitment to bettering the lives of those working in the media and entertainment industry,” the guild said. “This landmark contract was hardfought since Day 1, and is testament to what can be achieved through the power of solidarity.”

The 34-year-old actor was asked if she was going to take over the superhero role, as Peter Safran and James Gunn envisage the future of the DC Universe.
“Well, I feel like Gal Gadot is doing a great job,” the Blonde star told Wired in an interview. “I think she should keep doing that.”
In December 2022, after Safran and Gunn took over the DC Universe, Wonder Woman 3 was cancelled.

Though she has an extensive TV CV, Olivia Wilde has so far restricted her directing work to films. That's set to change, as she has boarded a potential adaptation of Jennifer Egan's award-winning book A Visit From The Goon Squad.
The tome, which tends to defy easy definition, comprises a set of thirteen interrelated stories with a large set of characters all connected to Bennie Salazar, a record company executive, and his assistant, Sasha. The book centers on the mostly self-destructive characters of different ages who, as they grow older, are sent in unforeseen, and sometimes unusual, directions by life. The stories shift back and forth in time from the 1970s to the present and into the near future. And as for the "Goon Squad" of the title – that refers to time robbing characters of their youth.

A24 has optioned Jennifer Egan’s novel “A Visit from the Goon Squad” and its sequel “The Candy House” for a TV series, with Olivia Wilde attached to direct, a rep for the actress told TheWrap on Friday. The “Don’t Worry Darling” helmer will also executive produce with Jennifer Fox.
Egan’s first novel in the series, which tells 13 different stories connected to record company executive Bennie Salazar, won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize. The 2022 sequel, “The Candy House,” was a New York Times bestselling novel, alongside the already-adapted “Where the Crawdads Sing” and “The Last Thing He Told Me.”
This would be Wilde’s first major project for television. “Don’t Worry Darling,” which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, earned nearly $90 million globally. When Ariana DeBose hosted February’s BAFTA Awards, she opened with a meme-generating performance that conquered the internet, with reactions ranging from cringe to double cringe. DeBose — who co-wrote the lyrics “Angela Bassett did the thing, Viola Davis my Woman King, Blanchett Cate you’re a genius, Jamie Lee you are all of us” — seems to be having the last laugh … all the way to the bank.
The 32-year-old Oscar winner hit the London Palladium stage April 1 for a one-night engagement that saw her perform the ditty once again for a sold-out crowd along with covers of “Vogue,” “Ray of Light,” “Hand in My Pocket” and a mashup of “The Ladies Who Lunch” with “Poor Unfortunate Souls.”

“My life changed when Rachel Brosnahan walked into it. I will never be the same.”
That’s how The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino closed a farewell letter distributed on Tuesday in advance of the upcoming launch of the fifth and final season of her Emmy Award-winning Prime Video series on April 14. Later that day, Sherman-Palladino joined Maisel collaborator and husband, Daniel Palladino, and castmembers for a special PaleyFest event at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet, Sherman-Palladino took a minute to remember that moment.
“We were reading so many people and then Jeanie Bacharach, who helped cast the pilot, said there was a girl who had nothing on her résumé that would lead you to believe she could do this — she had done no comedy whatsoever,” Sherman-Palladino explained. “But Jeanie said, ‘I just feel it in my guts that Rachel Brosnahan can do this.

In 1981 royal watchers were thrilled to learn of the impending marriage of King Charles III (then-Prince Charles) and Lady Diana Spencer. The couple captured the world’s imagination with thier romance and subsequent lavish wedding in July of that same year. However, as their marriage evolved, it was evident that the couple had little in common. A body language expert proved three ways how, historically, Charles was “not in harmony” with Diana.

King Charles III was groomed from childhood to inherit the throne from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The eldest of her and Prince Philip’s children, Anne, Andrew, and Edward, Charles’s destiny was inherently different than his siblings.
He learned early on that duty came before happiness.

Full Moon recently started taking a different approach to their long-running Puppet Master franchise. Rather than continue making Puppet Master movies that feature multiple puppets, they’re now focusing on solo puppet movies. These solo spin-offs got started with Blade: The Iron Cross in 2020 and continued with last year’s Puppet Master: Doktor Death. Now, in a new episode of his Full Moon Universe YouTube show, Full Moon founder Charles Band has announced that the next entry in the Puppet Master franchise is the solo puppet movie Puppet Master: Furnace Leech Woman.
It’s a bit odd that the movie isn’t just being called Puppet Master: Leech Woman, but there is reason for the addition of “Furnace” in there. Since late last year, Full Moon has been giving out replica puppets that are designed to look like the puppet Leech Woman after she was burned in a furnace in Puppet Master II.

It’s no secret that the Brad Furman-directed City of Lies has had a rocky journey to the big screen. It’s played an exhausting game of musical chairs with distributors and a lawsuit involving the film’s location manager and the film’s star Johnny Depp. Through all, it still managed to make a theatrical debut as theaters begin to open the doors after a year of navigating the pandemic.
Based on the book, LAbyrinth, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Randall Sullivan and adapted by Christian Contreras, Saban Films released City of Lies on 501 screens across the country and the dramatic crime thriller revolving around the real-life death of hip hop icon Notorious B.I.G. managed to earn estimated $275,049 in its opening weekend with a per screen average of $549. This is not bad at all.

Producers of One Night in Miami, Promising Young Woman, and Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm spoke about how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted their films at a panel staged by the Producers Guild.
Miami producer Jess Wu Calder, Woman producer Ashley Fox and Borat producer Monica Levinson participated in a Producers Guild of America panel for Darryl F. Zanuck Award nominees.
Calder said director Regina King had three more scenes to film for One Night in Miami when production lockdowns began in March 2020. They were able to resume production in July under much scrutiny of the industry guilds, Calder said.
As one of the first productions to resume under industry Covid-19 safety protocols, One Night in Miami faced a potential problem when King’s Covid-19 test returned with inconclusive results.
“Our entire cast and crew was waiting in the parking lot as we tried to test her again,” Calder said.

Ultra-violent superhero stories are anything but uncommon these days. But back in 2003, when Robert Kirkman’s Invincible debuted on comic shelves, it was unique in its juxtaposition of startlingly vivid violence and gore with colorful, Saturday morning cartoon imagery. And the violence wasn’t for show—unlike most popular superhero stories, characters in Invincible die all the time, and for the most part, they stay dead. The blood and guts splattered across the panels were a constant reminder that this superhero story had real stakes.
Eighteen years later, Invincible is now an animated Amazon Original, with Kirkman attached as writer and executive producer. This adaptation captures both the aesthetic and tone of the comics well, with animation that effectively mimics the book’s original art by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, and a level of violence that has earned the show a TV-ma rating.

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for both the theatrical cut of “Justice League” and the Snyder cut, along with small spoilers for both “Wonder Woman” and “Wonder Woman 1984.”]
Since its spectacularly ill-fated theatrical release in November 2017, Joss Whedon’s version of “Justice League” has earned itself many detractors — from original director Zack Snyder and his legions of fans, to even some of its stars — though few personally felt Whedon’s choices as much as “Wonder Woman” and “Wonder Woman 1984” director Patty Jenkins.
When Jenkins appeared on “ReelBlend” podcast last December, she was asked about how Whedon’s theatrical cut impacted her plans for Wonder Woman, including her sequel “Wonder Woman 1984,” which Jenkins was already plotting when Whedon’s film hit theaters. Her answer was blunt, and wholly understandable when one compares the so-called “Whedon Cut” with the recently resurrected “Snyder Cut.” She tossed it out.

Doesn't it feel like we were just talking about how ridiculous it is that this is the first time in Oscars history more than one woman was nominated for best director? Oh wait, that's because we just had this discussion about the Golden Globes! With the nominations of Emerald Fennell and Chloé Zhao, only seven women - Lina Wertmüller in 1977, Jane Campion in 1994, Sofia Coppola in 2003, Kathryn Bigelow in 2010, and Greta Gerwig in 2018 - have been nominated for best director in the history of the Academy Awards. Currently, Bigelow is the only woman to win in the category for The Hurt Locker. As if all that wasn't bad enough, Zhao is the first non-white woman to be nominated. Let that sink in.

Alexa Nikolas, the actress and ex-wife of Rhye frontman Michael Milosh, has accused the musician of sexual abuse, gaslighting, and grooming in a series of lengthy Instagram posts shared on Sunday.
In her open letter, titled “Groomed by the Groom,” Nikolas accuses Milosh of being an ephebophile – a person primarily attracted to teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 – and claims that the Canadian musician groomed her for “a green card, success, and sex.”
Milosh originally formed Rhye in 2010 with Danish instrumentalist Robin Hannibal, and drew critical praise in 2013 for the project’s breakout album Woman.

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the Oscars 2021 nominations is how unsurprising they were. There were course a handful of snubs, from One Night in Miami and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom being left out of the Best Picture category to Lakeith Stanfield surprising awards watchers with a Best Supporting Actor nod thanks to Judas and the Black Messiah (displacing Chadwick Boseman from Da 5 Bloods). But by and large? Things proceeded the way prognosticators pretty much expected.
With the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences picks in, we can see that David Fincher’s Mank is the technical favorite with below the line voters, pushing the Netflix deconstruction of Golden Age Hollywood to eight nominations. These include major nods for Picture, Director and Best Actor (Gary Oldman) and Best Supporting Actress (Amanda Seyfried), but also a lot of technical recognition too in Cinematography, Production Design, Costume, and Makeup and Hairstyling.

When the story is written about this year’s pandemic-afflicted Oscar nominations, the lede may not be about the effects of Covid at all. And it may not be that the only theaters Oscar voters saw the contenders in were drive-ins. And it may not be that three of the Best Picture nominees actually qualified through streaming. And it may not be that two women are competing against each other for Best Director and that between them they have seven nominations. Or it may not be that a record 70 different women took a huge 76 noms.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled its nominations Monday morning for the 93rd Oscars, through Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas. AMPAS’s David Rubin started the pandemic-delayed Oscars by validating Deadline’s scoop that most of the event will be held in Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, with some of the event being held in the Dolby Theatre, its usual locale.
The nominations for the Oscars, which will hold its ceremony April 25 live on ABC, had its share of surprises, and the most noticeable thing is the diversity that is reflected in the Academy’s efforts over several years to broaden the perspective of its voting members. Coming off the recent scandalous showing by the scandal-mocked HFPA for not even having a single voting Black member, it seems a step in the right direction.

The series Keiko Sato: Pinku Maverick starts on Mubi on March 3, 2021 in many countries.Above: Blue Film WomanThese films, “Pink Cinema,” are anything but easy to digest; women are violently abused and objectified, sex is often un-consensual or underaged, murder, torture, suicide and castration are commonplace, and incest is an assumed normality. It’s fair to say that the appeal of these films, for many modern-day audiences, is not necessarily clear. So why are these films being restored and rewatched now?The long-debated question “is pornography essentially harmful to women?” is brought to the fore in these films and lingers on each drawn-out sexual violence scene. Amia Srinivasan, reflecting on this question with reference to Nancy Bauer’s essay on pornography, notes that “to fully understand this question, we need to attend more carefully to the particularities of pornography and the role it plays not just in culture generally but...

This year’s pandemic-delayed awards are tougher to call than usual, but the Golden Globes are always crazy to predict. This year, as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association prepares for a live-virtual version on February 28, its 87 members have a lot to deal with. They are mourning the death of their leader, Italian journalist Lorenzo Soria, who was posthumously quoted in a recent Los Angeles Times expose about the various ways the wealthy organization is wined, dined, and influenced while paying various members handsomely. “I have no choice,” one source said he told them. “They call me every day for more money.”

The title of Netflix’s miniseries “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker” implies that it’s not entirely a factual retelling of the pioneering entrepreneur, philanthropist, and activist’s life. In fact, the influence fundamental to Walker’s remarkable story barely exists in this rather underwhelming jumble.
The one thing that’s clear is that writers Nicole Jefferson Asher and Elle Johnson (working from a bio written by Walker’s great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles) and directors Kasi Lemmons and DeMane Davis want to tell a story that inspires and entertains. The degree to which they succeed in doing that is what’s ultimately in question. It’s pointless to critique creative license here, as many critics continue to do, so don’t expect much of a deep dive into the itinerant history of Walker’s business, which is highly abridged in the series, as are her philanthropic and social work.

Ram V had been announced some time ago as taking over solo writing duties as of Justice League Dark #21. He is, if you’ll remember, the writer behind one of my favorite surprises of 2019, These Savage Shores. He’s an inventive and thoughtful storyteller, making him an ideal match for DC’s supernatural world. I was very excited for his arrival on its own… and then I got a look at the art!
I feel bad, because you won’t get to see the pages that ripped my jaw off and threw it on the floor until you go buy the book. The preview art is very good, but at about the midpoint of the issue, it jumps from “excellent superhero comic” to “Did Jh Williams and David Aja have a kid? I didn’t even know they were dating.”

Sad news out of Hollywood.
Lyle Waggoner, a beloved actor, who appeared on The Carol Burnett Show and Wonder Woman, has died.
He was 84.
The Hollywood Reporter reported the news first.
Back in 1965, Waggoner was in the running for a role on the Fox-ABC series in Batman in the titular role, but the role went to Adam West.
Waggoner had small roles on the TV and movie world before being hired to serve as the announcer on The Carol Burnett Show, which hit the air in 1967.
The purpose of the announcer role came about when Burnett "was afraid to talk to the audience when that show started; she didn't want to have to talk directly to them on camera," Bob Mackie, the costume designer on the sketch-comedy show, revealed in a 2000 interview for the website The Interviews: An Oral History of Television.
