It's cheesy, but it's good cheese
KOOLAIDBRO23 April 2019
It's like The O.C. collided with Friday Night Lights. It's cliche and cheesy, but it's entertaining. I went in expecting the worst and I enjoyed it.

cliche'd as can be... But that might be alright
ryanwcar11 October 2018
It's your typical smart kid with athletic talent but from a rough black part of town but they're doing it with flair and style. Everything so far is cliche'd to 11 but it's done decently well and the characters seem to be able to halfway act. This should have been way worse than it was and I'll tune in next week and perhaps a few more after that.. 8/10

P.S They even made the cool friendzoned chick at the new school hotter than the one he's interested in just to show us how cliche'd they can be... but again it's all okay

Not bad not bad at all

This show has a little bit of a One tree hill feel to it. I was a big fan of the OTH series and I feel this show has the same potential that show has for many years. Not the greatest acting but I think it will get better. Hoping this show grows to be something great

Amazing!
hazelnut31625 October 2018
This is the best new show of 2018. It covers all the hard topics in life and shows the struggles as well as the triumphs. It's well written with complex characters I'd want to know in real life, with enough drama to keep people interested.

Good show
rdunn-6880923 October 2018
The show is actually better than I thought it was going to be. Tate Diggs being an experienced actor helps. I think the overall acting is decent, they aren't going to blow you away with their acting or anything but it's okay. How do you keep this going beyond one season with the plot? I think they should have made the kid an underclassman making it easier to keep the series going for at least a few seasons.

Don't expect football
Zedyeti21 April 2020
Show started off good and interesting. Then it becomes an annoying soap opera and drags on and on like a bad after school special. Everyone is super depressing and there is rarely any football being played especially season 2. If you're really into pointless drama then this show is perfect for you.

Seasons 1 and 2 good, seasons 3 and 4 bad
BadurBey12 July 2022
Overall this show is a 6.7/10 with a pretty great first season.

Seasons 1-2 overall 8.1/10. These first two seasons were solid with genuine tension and a decent story revolving around our protagonist Spencer James. We explore his relationship with his father, his struggle to balance his life at both Beverly and Crenshaw, and trying to be involved in his community as much as possible. There were some flaws with all the political messages being propagated by you could overlook and enjoy the story.

Seasons 3-4 overall 5.6/10. These two seasons were TRASH. The show lost whatever magic it had in the first two seasons and just went on a downhill spiral. Characters became annoying and unlikable, and Spencer became this hero who needs to be involved in EVERYTHING. These two seasons were so bad I couldn't even finish season 4.

Goes from great to horribly wrong
Coralknight28 June 2022
The first and second seasons were thought-provoking, well-written and you almost believe there is a consultant on staff who lived in S Central LA that gave insight into life there as opposed to the typical Hollywood cliches. The background character studies were in depth for the principle cast and the sub-plot about the family issues made the series very 3-dimensional (although at times typically sappy and predictable as once would expect from a TV series). But in season 3, the show "jumps the shark" and becomes a typical mouthpiece for Hollywood elites, crying for "defund the police" and citing a police "war on our people" (the typical talking-points of the left) and forget about the actual depth of the previous character study. Watch the first 2 seasons...then pretend the rest don't exist.

Season1 good season 2 bad season 3 terrible
nicholasbyers20 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show started off good but season 3 ruined it with political messaging. Season 1 was just about football and now the show is about school drama and politics with little talk about football.

Change the name from All American to All politics.

I love it! Hope it keeps going...
contactpaigebrown26 October 2018
I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, the pilot really drew me in! It goes deeper than the football and has the potential for some great story lines for every single character. It's based on a true story but is slightly reminiscent of One Tree Hill in a updated and refreshing way.

As my title says it's something different, And that's a good thing in my eyes, Very interesting story, the old rag to riches story, done in a great new twist... I'll be watching this to see how this story progress...

Great show
weingartner_bruno4 March 2019
Nice history, don't pay attention to those giving 1 star, they are boring, not the show! Very well written, it looks like a cliche, but it's more than that, it keeps you paying attention to all details and wanting more and more episodes.

Season 3 is weird
jgar-228896 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It almost feels like the writers ran out of ideas, so they just started putting in politics. Weird. And the reason I say this is because it seems like the season gets more political as it goes on, and by the second half it's really noticeable.

As others have noted, it doesn't even seem like the show is much about football anymore. I get that there was always more, but it's almost like football isn't even there. Again, bizarre, especially since season 3 has two football teams to watch. More teams but less time combined.

I don't think the entire season 3 is bad, but the second half is worse than the first half. I read some of the reviews here before watching season 3; however, it wasn't until around episode 8 or 9 that I started to agree with people here. You'll think I'm crazy too until you get further in.

I really enjoy this show up until recently
Archangel32628 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great show that follows the lives of young students dealing with the ups and downs of what we all know get harder with every generation. I think the writing is good and the characters are endearing but as of late this show as well as others I enjoy are using the show to push social and political stands. This is all fine but for me I just want entertainment and not a reminder of everything I am wanting to get away from for 42 mins or so. I know the writers are wanting to express their feelings about real world events and I applaud them for it but please do a documentary or short film about these causes and leave All American to work on story lines that bring people together and not pushing division, I really enjoy the friendships and hardships that each generation has all endured similar situations. I even think back about my high school days and rethink how I could have handled situation differently due to how it was portrayed on the show. Yes some of these topics are way overdue to be worked out, but I don't think using this platform to target any one group of people is the answer. Taking real life travesties to paint a picture of a system wide problem and then calling to cancel them basically is not what is needed in this country right now. There are bad people and good people around the world, there is no one place that are all saints. What I watched tonight was sad but also seemed to be just another Hollywood studio pushing division. The sad part its not only this show I am seeing it on many shows. The way to love each other and to grow stronger as nation is not through division but from understanding. Compassion and learning from past mistakes. Then make better choices moving forward together. Yes I know what the reason behind the writers decision and that this was going to be apart of the show at some point. It seems even the characters are all dividing as well. The earlier seasons were very inspiring and something that gave you a good feeling to watch and a smile to end the day with. I so enjoy the entertainment industry but maybe they should stick to entertaining and not shaping American politics or calling for de-funding the Police force as whole. Especially when surrounded by private security and gates with security surrounding the studios. How about a show on how LA is ok with the ever growing homeless population who are just fine until they are removed from their make shift homes so the Celebrities don't have to deal with it for events like the Oscars. My brother was one of those people that were moved for security and or esthetic reasons. Other than this episode, still one of my favorite shows on television.

Seriously?
jczerepak20 April 2019
What is it with these shows with 27 year old actors and actresses playing High School kids? And diminutive little men that are 5 foot 8 as either former, or aspiring NFL football players? Get real.

I did not like the Political Undertones in Season 3
jshorowitz4 August 2021
I enjoyed this show for the high school football aspect and not the high school drama.

I understand I'm not in the demographics of the target audience but the new season left a sour taste in my mouth especially as a Republican from Texas.

Any chance of a spin-off ? One show about high school football and another about the challenges rich kids face in high school ?

This show reminds me of the movie Titanic. If they could have cut out the love story and went straight to the boat sinking it would've saved 2 1/2 hours.
