Sex & Nudity

  • Opposite and same sex kissing.
  • Brief love scenes feature characters unclothing, but the camera usually cuts to the next scene before anything is shown.
  • Many girls in string bikinis that stand on the side lines during the football game (including a couple that show a brief side boob from far away), and a couple close up shots of booty shorts of cheerleaders.
  • This is a show about football, so the worst of the nudity is cheerleaders In skimpy clothes, and the worst of the sex is brief kissing scenes.
  • There are sex scene's. A lot of teenage sex. There is talk about sex too.
  • Discussion of foot fetishes

Violence & Gore

  • Gang violence, e.g. a brief drive-by shooting near a football field, a character is shot by a gang member, another character is beaten up by gang members.
  • Fights involve shoving, pushing and punching.
  • Characters are shot, and blood is seen. Usually nothing more than a bloody spot at the point of impact, but sometimes pools of blood are seen.
  • People get shot and pools of blood come out.
  • In the last episode of season 5 one of the main characters get stabbed and is shown bleeding.

Profanity

  • Mild language, e.g. ass and damn.
  • Although there is usually milder language words like ass, damn, crap, and slut are used throughout season 1.
  • 'Bitch' is used at least once.
  • Ass, damn, and hell are used in every episode. Bitch, dick, and pissed are used less frequently.
  • Use of bollocks, bitch, slut, dick, prick, crap, damn, bastard and a few other mild to moderate profanities

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Teenagers are seen drinking at parties.
  • Some characters are seen smoking weed.
  • A lot of alcohol and drugs. A character was an addict. She almost dies in an episode because of this. A lot of drinking by teenagers and a problem of steroids happens
  • A character overdoses on molly that's laced with fentanyl.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some of the football games can be intense, as beloved characters are seen in stress and some are injured.
  • The show contains a lot of HIGHLY emotional scenes, such as characters dying, and depending on how you feel about them, their deaths are very tear-jerking.
  • Some of the flashback scenes featuring Olivia Baker's (Samantha Logan) past as an addict can be upsetting for those who may have had a similar past. One scene in particular that may be triggering and intense for that group of people features Olivia's near-death flashback, as her family is seen in distress trying to help her regain consciousness.
  • All American delves into mature themes such as: death, suicide, drug abuse, alcoholism, abuses within college sports, lupus, stalking, racism, sexism and homophobia

Violence & Gore

  • In Season 2, Spencer gets shot. He is shown lying on the ground, convulsing, blood pooling underneath him. The very next episode has him entering the hospital, and fairly graphic imagery of the wound is shown as he is treated by the doctors. Surprisingly graphic for this show.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Olivia Baker (Samantha Logan) has a past as an addict, and is recovering post-rehab at the beginning of the series. There are a couple of episodes that dwell on this, and have flashbacks to her past, including one that showcases a near-death overdose.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Layla falls into a state of depression later in the series. It's portrayed rather realistically, and can be upsetting and intense for some viewers.
