Lionsgate has inked a deal with the parent of Ebony magazine to launch a free ad-supported channel, Ebony TV by Lionsgate.
The new Fast channel will offer premium content from Lionsgate’s library and will launch on Oct. 11 on Samsung TV Plus. “Ebony is the perfect partner to help bring our expansive library to a demographic that has been previously underserved in the Fast space,” said Susan Hummel, Lionsgate head of domestic channels and executive vp and managing director Canada, in a statement on Tuesday.

With access to Lionsgate’s expansive library of titles, the Fast channel will be available on Samsung TV Plus starting on Oct. 11 with programming that includes popular titles such as “The Great Debaters,” starring Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker; “Snitch,” featuring Dwayne Johnson; “Dear White People,” starring Tessa Thompson; “If Beale Street Could Talk”; Tyler Perry’s “I Can Do Bad All by Myself”; and “Jackie Brown,” starring Pam Grier. The channel will also feature shows such as “Are We There Yet?” and “Kevin Hart: What the Fit.”

Exclusive: Roku has quickly found its new scripted boss.
The free-ad supported streaming service has promoted Brian Tannenbaum to oversee scripted content following news of Colin Davis’ departure to Sony Pictures Television. Deadline understands that he will initially take on the role on an interim basis, but sources suggest that he will likely get the job on a permanent basis.
