This article contains spoilers for the premiere episode of "The Continental."
Even a casual viewer of the "John Wick" films can't help but be intrigued by the franchise's assassin-filled world. One of the unique pleasures of the original 2014 movie is the way it begins in a very grounded, incredibly recognizable reality, sliding bit by bit into a wilder, more garish, more violent, more intriguing underworld along with John (played in the films by Keanu Reeves), as he delves back into the life of murder he thought he'd left behind.
The very first spinoff/expanded universe/prequel to come from the "John Wick" films is the Peacock original miniseries "The Continental: From the World of John Wick," and it finds itself in territory that's both untouched and well-established. Each subsequent "John Wick" film (from Chapters 2 through 4) has developed the world of "Wick" on a grand, global scale, taking John to locales all around the world.

What might happen if you give a mouse a cookie? Author Laura Joffe Numeroff has been answering questions like this in amusing ways since her first children’s book was published in 1985.

Illustrated by Felicia Bond, it’s the first in a bestselling series of 15 books that includes other hits like “If You Give a Moose a Muffin” and “If You Give a Pig a Pancake.” Amazon brought the adventures of a mouse and his friends alive on Prime Video in 2015 and continues to release new episodes of the popular show.

“How To with John Wilson” is a show filled with mistakes. They’re the kind of slight variations on the New York crowds that you rarely see in standard backlot scene: an honest misstep, an out-of-nowhere animal, or an out-of-place, eye-grabbing accessory. There are plenty of times when Wilson, the show’s director/co-writer/Dp/narrator, films something slip from his non-filming hand. Those slip-ups aren’t so much a crack in the new HBO show’s facade but the facade itself. Camping out at documentary’s edge, “How To with John Wilson” is an exercise in documenting the everyday highs and lows, especially when that means embracing the unexpected.
Each episode takes a cue from its title, promising the viewer a better understanding of how to tackle a particular task. These range from having a bit of small talk to covering furniture to improving memory. All of these journeys...

When my children were younger, they loved a series of books by Laura Numeroff and illustrator Felicia Bond with titles like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Each book follows an animal along a series of random adventures where one thing leads to another (the cookie makes the mouse thirsty for milk), then another (the milk prompts him to check his reflection to see if he has a milk mustache), then another (he realizes his whiskers need a trim), until he inevitably, improbably returns to the moment it all started.

As we get deeper into the summer, entertainment offerings are bound to start slimming – particularly in this pandemic era. Perhaps there’s no greater example of the oncoming drought than Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2020.
Though the new options may be few and far between on Amazon this month, at least they pack a bit of a punch. In the case of Hanna season 2, that punch is quite literal. Esme Creed-Miles returns as the titular precocious super soldier. You can check out our review here. Beyond that, there are two intriguing Amazon original movies. The first is the Rosamund Pike-starring Radioactive and that arrives on July 24. Then there is the Dave Bautista film My Spy on July 26.
With HBO Max now on the scene, Amazon Prime is sure to lose some of its library titles. That can already be seen in the relatively sparse offerings for July.

There comes a point in a household where the tinny sound of guffawing YouTubers leaking from a child’s headphones can be tolerated no more. A point when, after the possibilities of trees, nature, and industrial estate soft plays have been exhausted, it’s time for them, and you, to watch some proper kids’ television.
Below is some of the aforementioned proper kids’ television, all of it currently available to Amazon Prime subscribers.

February may be the shortest of the year but Amazon Prime Video has crammed its schedule full of treats. The streaming service has confirmed that “Hunters,” a new series from “Us” director Jordan Peele, will start its run this month. Al Pacino stars in his first TV series as a Nazi hunter working in 1977 New York City with a young crew led by Logan Lerman.
In addition, we get the second half of the first season of “Clifford” as well as the debut of a documentary series about the NFL team in the City of Brotherly Love, “All or Nothing: The Philadelphia Eagles.”
Also look for the premiere of the feature film “Honey Boy.” Shia Labeouf wrote this heartfelt film about his troubled childhood and plays a character inspired by his father.

Full disclosure, we were skeptical about Amazon Video when it came out. It seemed like it was maybe just another money maker without much effort behind it. We were wrong. From TV shows like The Man in The High Castle and The Marvelous Miss Maisel to great kids programs we can’t get anywhere else like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, we are impressed. However, Amazons selection of original movies takes the cake. There’s so much to love in Prime Originals that it was genuinely challenging to try and realistically rank them in any order. It seems that famed journalist Bob Woodward has encapsulated all the madness of the first year and a half of Donald Trump’s time as president in his new book “Fear: Trump in the White House” — with stories that successfully managed to simultaneously stretch credulity and sound perfectly believable that it’s been hard to talk about anything else this week.
On Wednesday night’s episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” the show’s cold open featured a sketch that parodied the kids’ show “Reading Rainbow,” in which the kids discuss “Fear” in a way that, well, sounds about right.
“When you grow up, do you want to be the president? Well, this book shows that anybody can do it,” a young girl said to introduce the book in the same earnest way that the kids in real episodes of “Reading Rainbow” do it. “It’s called ‘Fear’ by Bob Woodward.

The Society of Composers and Lyricists hosted a panel discussion at La’s Landmark Regent Theater on Feb. 6 to showcase Daytime Emmy Awards hopefuls who write music for children’s animated programs. The four composers taking part were Grammy-winner Lisa Loeb (“If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”), Jim Lang (“Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie” and “Ready Jet Go!”), Lisbeth Scott (“Tumble Leaf”) and Jake Monaco (“The Stinky and Dirty Show” and “Dinotrux”). Also adding insight was Emmy-winning music supervisor Rossanna Wright (“The Stinky and Dirty Show” and “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”).
“An important thing to remember is kids hold onto these songs for life,” said Wright, a Daytime Emmy winner for her work on “The Snowy Day” (Best Music Direction and Composition in 2017). When asked during the audience Q&A for advice to aspiring composers and songwriters she encouraged the tunesmiths to “watch the show that you want to work in.
