This rare archival film of the Birdsville Mail Run was shot only around about a year before the classic Australian feature documentary The Back of Beyond (1954) which depicted the same subject matter.
Footage from this film can be seen in the documentary "The Mailmen Back of Beyond (2014)" where it is referred to under the title of "Birdsville Mail Run" (1953) which shares the same "Birdsville Mail Run" title of a 1986/1987 video documentary short covering the same subject area of outback mailmen. Other footage from the Colin Wagener Archive seen in this 2014 documentary included two floodings of the Cooper's Creek [See: "Cooper Flood" (1955) and "Cooper Flood" (1963)].
The Vimeo website says of this film: that it is: "A collection of short clips of motor vehicles shot between 1952 and 1955 in the outback, including the Birdsville Track. This footage comes to the Tom Kruse Collection courtesy of Colin Wagener who filmed this material on 8mm colour film. To see this material in context go to the website shown on the video."
The footage seen in the feature documentary "The Mailmen Back of Beyond (2014)" is referenced as "Birdsville Mail Run" (1953) and includes parts of this title. However, "Motoring and Mail Trucks in the Outback" (aka "Birdsville Mail Run" aka "Motoring in the Outback")actually features footage from the years 1952 to 1955.
