Great 4th episode.
TheFirst0125 June 2020
This has been really good so far. The detective (David Fincher aspect) that the show has been delevoped has been really well incorporated into the many genres that the show already has like adventure, sci-fi, and drama. I give this episode an 8.6/10.

Everyone has a secret
tedscoasterchannel2 June 2019
While the big mystery seems to stagnate during the first three quarters of the episode, the focus lies on the characters and their desperate attempt to figure out and to live with the things that happen to them. There are some great moments between characters, but here and then the episode falls back into previous habits, like dull dialogue and blatant exposition. Overall this episode is not as strong as the previous one, but it's better than episode 2.

Patience
GraXXoR5 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
While I have no issue with the series being a slow, involving watch that apparently requires something called "patience" -a commodity in short supply it would appear- I do find the shallow, "this show is slow and boring" reviews far more trying on my nerves.

The characters' buildup and the parallels between the past and present are starting to remind me of Twin Peaks, the mysteries are mounting more quickly than they are being solved, suggesting concentration will be required to keep track of all the relationships and characters..

While not a very self contained tale this week, this episode sets the scene for Truths very nicely,

Mysteries and more mysteries
AvionPrince167 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Events of episode 4.:

In June 2019, 43-year-old Michael Kahnwald commits suicide, but his mother Ines hides his suicide letter before anyone else notices it. On 4 November, after nearly two months of treatment at a psychiatric facility, Michael's teenage son Jonas returns to school and reunites with his best friend Bartosz Tiedemann, who is now dating Jonas's love interest, Martha. Erik Obendorf, the high school's main supplier of marijuana, has been missing for two weeks, and police officer Ulrich Nielsen - the father of Martha and her brothers, teenager Magnus and pre-teen Mikkel - has been assigned the investigation, which struggles to uncover any clues. Meanwhile, Ulrich is cheating on his wife, high school principal Katharina, with Jonas's mother Hannah. While searching for Erik's stash of drugs in a cave not far from the town's soon-to-be-closed-down nuclear power plant, Jonas, Bartosz, the three Nielsen children, and Franziska Doppler are frightened by strange sounds and their flickering flashlights, and Mikkel disappears as they flee the cave. The next day, the body of a young boy is discovered, but it is not Mikkel. At an unknown location, a hooded figure straps Erik to a chair, while clamping a mechanism around his head.

Review.: In this episode we know more and more about the characters and some motivation from them. The episode generate more and more mysteries. We asked always what will happened in next episode and we want to have more revelations to know more the plot.

Not enough development
TheDonaldofDoom30 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode somewhat continues spinning the plates the series was already spinning. A lot of the mystery stuff is a repetition of mysteries we got in previous episodes, without us learning anything significant that would pose new questions. Jonas's cave investigation, Helge's utterings (only this time he also mentions Noah) and the discovery that the birds had ruptured eardrums are all not surprising at this point, nor do we learn anything from them we wouldn't have known or expected before. So the progression of the central mysteries is really too slow.

Charlotte's daughter gets some focus this episode, and it's a nice little entertaining subplot. It subverts expectations in her not getting abducted or killed, but the end result is only her getting a watch that looks like it belongs to Charlotte. Interesting, don't get me wrong, and I'm sure it'll be important somehow. But the characters haven't developed much by the end as a result, with the girl's parents first becoming distressed at her disappearance but then going back to normal when she comes home. The ending is intriguing though, with Yasin coming across someone sent by Noah.

Effective filmmaking despite some implausibilities
snoozejonc16 April 2024
The mystery continues a slow burn with more eerie moments and character establishment.

There have been comparisons made to the work of David Lynch and I feel it clearly in this one. I feel the underlying dark secrets lurking below the surface of the community as if they were barrels of toxic nuclear waste. This makes it quite compelling and makes me want to find out more.

I used the word "implausibility" loosely in the review title, as this is after all sci-fi fantasy, so it's best not to take certain plot details too seriously. In this I refer to certain aspects of behaviour shown that make characters fit the "too stupid to live" trope and (if it exists) the similar one I call "too stupid to be parents". Given the premise established in the previous episode, we see instances of characters wandering alone in the woods, walking alone or causing young children to be in a position of having to walk home alone. Some of this is a stretch and requires a liberal suspension of disbelief.

As in the previous episodes the cinematography, lighting, art design and sounds come together to create a tremendously effective atmosphere.

I rate this one as a 7.5/10, but like to round upwards.

Moving the Plot
Hitchcoc28 November 2023
The little deaf girl is at the center of this episode. Whoever that actress is, she really pulls this off. Her parents are at odds. Mom, the police chief and her in-the-closet husband. We have further efforts by the young people to search the site near the power plant and, again, the lurker in the woods. Meanwhile, there are all sorts of investigative discoveries. A small herd of sheep has dies suddenly, but there are no immediately recognizable causes for the deaths. The birds and the sheep do have one thing in common: severe bleeding from the ears. The temporary disappearance of the little girl brings back the terror.

what the cause of the eyepatch might be
Neptune1654 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
About the eyepatch: That bugged me so much that I googled the actor just to find out if he actually had an accident and they decided to let him shoot with the eyepatch. No, it's not the actor. It is the role. And it is still not explained. There is a really weird thing about that scene with Yasin and the hooded figure. The voice definitely sounds like it's Mark Waschke under the hood... but of all the people it cannot be him. Since he plays Noah. That classroom scene is one to remember. And you got the two important aspects first time: The discussion of foreshadowing in Goethe's work and the doubling imagery, alongside the infinity symbol front and centre of the blackboard... With a suspicious line right down through the middle. I was flabbergasted by the time I finally understood how all of it connected.

The fourth episode continues to build on what's come previously. Nothing major or new happens this time, but there are some new developments and new pieces of the puzzle coming to light. It does the job.

High potential, low delivery
jfish200118 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's hard for me to enjoy a show that introduces a topic like time travel yet doesn't address it. Slow episode and a bit annoying. Also with the ginger kid, it's cool that he has the contraption on his head and it's somewhat obvious that the nuclear power plant has something to do it with it. But yet again the show does not address this situation at all. And yet again the many scenes in the cave and the forest that again, are not addressed. And finally, the ominous men they keep showing or the old man out of his mind, the show does not address this. I will remain patient and have high hopes for this show, but please just give me something.

B grade Slasher Film
Warin_West-El1 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a B grade slasher film disguised as a television series.

First of all, every character is stupid. Not as in IQ, but in terms of incongruous behaviors that no thinking person would do. Elizabeth Doppler is missing - why? Because the school gave her a note to give to her parents and she didn't.

Then, she had an opportunity to get a ride home but refused it. Keep in mind, she KNOWS she didn't give the note to her parents so she KNOWS they're going to be late.

Next, Elizabeth starts to walk home. IN A TOWN WHERE KIDS HAVE GONE MISSING. How smart is that? And we find out her sister has been correct: Elizabeth stole Franziska's lipstick. And this is after she accused her mother of stealing a memory card.

ALL of these people are lowlifes, including the kids! It's nearly impossible to empathize with any of these characters. Whenever there's drama, most often it's the result of one of the characters doing something stupid.

And of course, true to slasher movies, whenever someone goes into a dark space/cavern/basement they're always alone and most often don't have a flashlight.

FINALLY: It STILL hasn't occurred to Ulrich Nielsen that perhaps the reason they can't get a search warrant is because Aleksander Tiedemann is a criminal. Come on. These characters are sleepwalking through life.

More confused less entertainment.
saptesh78611 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Still watching this series for time travel but I did not get much from it. I am irritating by its narrating style that they show one scene, some incident then cut, show another for some time, then cut again and show third, and then again and again never ending process could not link at least me with story and subject. I have no super brain to connect those all pieces in a row to know story well. I am normal viewer only want to enjoy series in simple way but it seems all the viewers here having brilliant minds and series makers only made those endless foolish parts for them only.

Does every people in tv series have to be irrational?
adriankuta19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So far, I'm still at the stage where I like the series and I'm waiting for the action to develop. But the scene where, for example, S01E03, Ulrich leaves on a motorbike leaving the door open, even though a strange kid is nearby, is extremly stupid.

In episode 4. The daughter of a policewoman, a POLICEWOMAN who I assume has several years of experience, has not returned home. A policewoman finds her daughter's hat in the woods. And what does she do? She returns home to tell her husband about it at home... Why didn't she just call him and start looking for her, to not waste time?

Maybe it isn't important for story. But I really hate such scenes, where people not act like in normal life.
