The confrontation between Joey Windgate and his attacker is shown happening between lanes 27 and 28. Tony's team was bowling on the 25/26 pairing, with Ryan bowling his current turn on 25 just before the shooting. However, when T.J. and Cora go back behind the pinsetters, Joey is seen at the base of the setter immediately before number 27 (lane 26.)
While bowling, Burl throws the ball left handed with a left to right hook, but when the ball is shown rolling towards the pins it on the opposite side of the lane and is hooking from right to left.
During the conversation between Joey and Cora at the claw machine, the number 28 can be seen as the last lane. However, as Joey walks behind the pinsetters to talk to the attacker, 4 extra pin setters are visible for lanes not accounted for from the front.
Neither a simple examination of the entry wound nor the bullet would reveal the caliber of the gun, as the .38, .380 and 9mm all use the same bullet (but not the same cartridge).
