A pain to sit through

Warning: Spoilers
Here we have the BET Awards 2017, a pretty recent event actually as you can see from the year in the title. I will not go in detail now about what I think about a certain ethnicity celebrating people only of that same ethnicity, especially if it is said ethnicity who complains about lack of diversity at other award shows. The host is Leslie Jones from Ghostbusters and honestly she was unbearable at times, loud an obnoxious, but rarely funny, especially given the fact how long the show ran and that she did have lots of screen time too. I really wished Queen Latifah to return and I am not a great fan of her either. Jones said on one occasion that these are the Black Oscars and this statement has nothing to do with reality. The only parallel is the running time, but the Oscars are actually entertaining during its three hours. Yep this is as long as this one here went. And it was really more of a concert show than an award show overall and sadly nobody was really memorable from the performers. The fact that Moonlight was entirely absent here shows you already how big of an award show this was. The title is a fraud. The show hit rock bottom right at the beginning when we have a duo of announcers addressing the "dear White people" who are not allowed to touch the female announcer's hair and then we find out she has a White boyfriend actually. He is not allowed to touch her hair? And what about the final comment about how she is still ready to get busy with some Black brothers. This was so awkward. I guess being faithful is not exactly her thing. Another major letdown was Michelle Obama's extremely random inclusion, admittedly not as random as her turn at the Oscars announcing Argo's Best Picture Win. She says she knows Chance the Rapper since he is a boy, she says she is so close to him, respects him so much, he is her friend etc. Then why isn't she there. I guess former first lady duties are more important. I did not believe a word she said to be honest. Beyoncé wasn't there either, which is a huge loss as she probably is still the biggest name in African-American music. The very few good moments came from Jamie Foxx' announcement and the George Michael tribute was well deserved too, even too short. May he rest in peace. Thinking about it, I'd actually have preferred to watch 3 hours of George Michael tribute instead of this seemingly never-ending piece of garbage. Oh yeah dear Leslie, dear Black People: The Oscars also don't have to advertise for Walmart and Coca Cole when handing out awards for editing or screenplay for example. The good news here is that next year's show, next year's BET Awards can hardly get any worse, but for all I care the best idea would be to cancel them completely.
