Fun and engaging multiplayer

Holdfast: Nations at War is a competitive multiplayer game that supports up to 150 players. The game is set during the Napoleonic Era and features land and sea battles. The game is currently in early access and is priced at $19.99. The game is a third-person shooter that has players control one soldier in one of two teams.

Holdfast: Nations at War has a lot of problems. This is expected for an early access game. The game is incredibly similar to Mount and Blade Warband's downloadable content Napoleonic Wars. Holdfast: Nations at War has the same gameplay as Napoleonic Wars except for some differences. Holdfast: Nations at War is missing cavalry. The game's melee system is also not as smooth as Napoleonic Wars' system. Napoleonic Wars also featured more artillery pieces and infantry classes. These missing features are a drag on the experience for Holdfast but the same gameplay that made Napoleonic Wars fun is still in tact in this game.

Holdfast: Nations at War introduces new features that were not found in the downloadable content Napoleonic Wars. The game features an area push-to-talk feature that allows players to communicate with their fellow team members in a small radius. This feature allows so much fun to be had as players in this game can roleplay commanders and direct friendlies. It also allows players to talk to the enemy and have fun exchanges. The game also features new infantry classes that are not found in Napoleonic Wars. These classes are the surgeons, and different musicians that give an aura of bonuses to infantry. It is nice to see that the game helps promote players to play these less combative classes.

The game also features naval battles being more focused than it was in Napoleonic Wars. The game's naval battles are fun but are filled with bugs. The bugs do not break the experience, but hamper it. The bugs, affect how naval battles play out. It is impressive to see fully manned ships engage one another.

The public servers offer crazy casual fun but the community that stays are in regiments. There are occasionally line battles that involve organized regiments that last for roughly an hour. These line battles are fun with structure to them. These events can be more fun for some players and players should try the event at least once.

I recommend Holdfast: Nations at War. The game is a fun and unique multiplayer game set in the Napoleonic era.

Grade: B.
