Everyone knows that Taylor Sheridan is truly one of the greatest legendary masterminds in the entertainment industry, having created not only the epic Yellowstone show but also a series of spin-offs that serve and will serve as its prequels and sequels. But did you know that one of his spin-off series even beat the blockbuster Game of Thrones saga in one aspect?
Taylor Sheridan in Yellowstone.
As it turns out, this is only true, especially when talking about his most recent spin-off show 1923, which will soon be spawning a second season that was delayed due to the strikes. Welcome to Global Breakouts, Deadline’s fortnightly strand in which we shine a spotlight on the TV shows and films making noise in their local territories. The industry is as globalized as it’s ever been, but breakout hits are appearing in pockets of the world all the time and it can be hard to keep track. So we’re going to do the hard work for you.
This month, we head to the European nation of Belgium for the first time. Belgium’s Traitors-producing neighbor the Netherlands tends to get the lion’s share of the Benelux region’s format plaudits but there’s plenty good stuff coming from the home of Hercule Poirot, and one such series is 99 to Beat. The fun, playful show in which to win you simply can’t lose, was recently picked up by ITV in the UK and conversations with U.S. buyers are well underway.

For years now, Future has been skilled at playing rap’s favorite romantic anti-hero: the man, or character, baptizing himself in purple drinks to forget about bliss that has slipped away. Some of his best songs, like “Throw Away” or “My Collection,” can be both spiteful and vulnerable, like a dog dying of a virus that it can’t understand. It’s why certain men pore over his albums like they’re David Foster Wallace novels. At any given moment, a lyric or a snark will seem to effortlessly crystalize...

Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan has finished its first week run at the box office and collected 81.68 crore at the box office. While the horror film was expecting a single-digit opening of 8 – 9 crore, it registered a surprising two-digit opening, creating a positive environment for the film to perform at the box office.
Shaitaan started on a very strong and similar note to Ajay‘s previous successful film, Drishyam 2, and since the film performed along the same lines overseas as well, it was expected to trend in the same manner.
Drishyam 2 was released in the year 2022 and became a super hit. It collected 241 crore in its lifetime, and Shaitaan was expected to cross the 100 crore mark in week one. Here is the day-to-day tally of the horror flick with Ajay Devgn‘s previous superhit co-starring Tabu.

Saint Maud announced Rose Glass as a major new talent in British genre filmmaking. Vicky Kaushal Needs To Earn 536 Crore With Sam Bahadur Box Office To Beat Uri: The Surgical Strike (Picture Credit: IMDb)
Uri was released in 2019 and gained prominence at the Box Office over time. The film collected only 8.2 crore on day 1. This number gradually increased after a positive word of mouth for the film. Helmed by Aditya Dhar, the film collected 35.73 crore in the first weekend. Even this wasn’t a huge number.
Comparing these numbers, it seems like Sam Bahadur can easily surpass them at the Box Office if good word of mouth continues. However, the way Uri: The Surgical Strike transformed like a beast at the Box Office is something that would be challenging for Sam Bahadur.
Uri, in its lifetime, collected 244.06 crore at the box office and earned 876% profit as the film was made on a budget of only 25 crore! If we compare these successful figures with Sam Manekshaw’s biopic,...

Animal Box Office Advance Booking Day 1 Updates! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
The countdown has begun, and the anticipation for Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna led Animal is sky-high. The advance booking sales of Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial are boosting as the film nears its release. And with two days to go, it is even better than Salman Khan’s Tiger 3. Scroll below for a detailed box office analysis.
It is to be noted that Tiger 3 had no competition at the time of release. It reached fans on the celebratory occasion of Diwali, and the box office was set on fire on the opening day. On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming film will be witnessing a clash with Vicky Kaushal starrer Sam Bahadur. Despite that, the pre-booking sales are showing an eccentric growth.
With two days to go, Tiger 3 had sold 4.65 lakhs+ tickets with 12.30 crores gross (excluding blocked seats) in its kitty.

Roku shares surged as much as 17% in after-hours trading on Wednesday after the company beat Wall Street expectations on revenue, which grew 20% year over year to $912 million during the third quarter of 2023.
Revenue growth was driven by “strong performance in content distribution and video advertising, along with unit sales of Roku-branded TVs,” which launched in March 2023.
However, the company reported a wider-than-expected net loss of $330 million, or $2.33 per share, compared to $122.2 million, or 88 cents per share, a year ago.
Analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research were expecting a loss of $1.99 per share on revenue of $857.4 million.
Platform revenue for the quarter, which is largely based on advertising sales and a subscription revenues split with partners, grew 18% year over year to $787 million, reflecting “strong contributions from both content distribution and video advertising, offset by lower M&e (media and entertainment) promotional spend.” Meanwhile, devices revenue grew 33% year over year to $125.2 million, driven...

Before John Lennon realized his songs could include meaningful lyrics, he used poetry as an outlet for his more personal, introspective writing. He sent poems to his friend, Stuart Sutcliffe, and used them as an outlet for his emotions. When a friend accidentally threw out a book of his poetry, he was, naturally, devastated. She explained that he immediately broke down into tears.
John Lennon wasn’t happy when a friend threw out a book of his poetry
When Lennon learned his girlfriend, Cynthia, was pregnant, he began spending long nights at bars, drinking away his fear and resentment of fatherhood. He also poured his feelings into notebooks full of poetry. His friend Bill Harry, the creator of Liverpool music publication Mersey Beat, saw firsthand how much Lennon’s poetry meant to him.
Harry and his girlfriend, Virginia, packed up their small office to move to a larger space. As they prepared to move,...

TikTok is taking on Amazon.
The ByteDance-owned app is reportedly expanding its ecommerce division by launching a retail operation in the United States. Rather than offering items that are supplied by third-party brands, TikTok will use its new store to sell, package, and ship merchandise from its own inventory.
That distinction separates the new initiative from TikTok Shop, the app’s marketplace for creator-designed and brand-affiliated products. According to Yahoo! News, TikTok will handle customer service and logistics for its forthcoming operation. Items on sale will include kitchen gadgets and toys.
The wares will be displayed through a digital storefront on the TikTok app. In the United Kingdom, that virtual shop has already arrived. According to The Financial Times, some U.K.-based TikTok users are seeing a hub called Trendy Beat, where video-tested items are available. Trendy Beat’s inventory is shipped from China.

Up Here composer Christophe Beck said the Hulu musical series’ score was intended to stand out from the musical numbers. Beck is an old college friend of co-writer Robert Lopez and already collaborated with Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez on the Frozen films.
“We really wanted to set the score a little bit apart from the songs,” Beck said during a panel at Deadline’s Sound & Screen event. “The score takes a more contemporary acoustic rock approach but it’s also not afraid to go to different places as needed. Overall I think the electric guitar is a big part of the sound of the score.”
Based on Lopez and Anderson-Lopez’s stage musical, Up Here follows Lindsay (Mae Whitman) and Miguel (Carlos Valdez), a couple falling in love in 1999. The voices in their heads, representing parents and friends, sing their thoughts.

Wall Street treated Bob Iger’s return to Disney like sweet candy and gobbled up shares. Now the sugar rush has worn off.
Iger’s promises to offer up creative freedom while also cutting costs and leaning into IP are already being tested in a wary market that’s watching the box office and other metrics closely. The pressure for financial discipline could prove a tough test for his transitional tenure.
The latest Marvel film’s underperformance is just one striking example of the obstacles in Iger’s way. With an end-of-weekend-three total of $187 million domestically and $420 million worldwide, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” is on track to earn less in North America than “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and less worldwide than either previous “Ant-Man” film. Disney’s stock price ended Wednesday barely over $99, down from $117 a month ago after a confident performance by Iger on an earnings call.

Each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences attempts to award Oscars to the “best” film or artist in each category that year, and each year it fails at least a few times.
There is always room for disagreement on what constitutes “best”: how can we possibly compare Toy Story 3, Inception and The King’s Speech? And yet voters did just that in 2010.
It is similarly impossible to nail down all the egregious choices in academy history, but here are a few of the most glaring errors, with just days to go until the 2023 ceremony. Starting with the granddaddy of them all...

Merely a year after seeing success with “Beat”, director Kim Sung-soo would once again team up with his star from that production, Jung Woo-sung, for yet another tale of friendship and neglected youth in “City of the Rising Sun”. Only this time, Jung would also bring along for the ride his real-life best friend Lee Jung-jae, who had seen moderate success the previous year with “An Affair” for a star-making and award-winning turn.
“City of the Rising Sun” is screening at Florence Korea Film Festival
The real-life best friends play reel-life friends too. Do-chul, played by Jung Woo-sung, is a boxer who has the skill and passion for the sport but isn’t really cut out for the game, winning nothing but cuts, bruises and concussions. Lee Jung-jae’s Hong-gi, meanwhile, is a low-level gangster working as a debt collector for a loan shark who places money above all else.

“When you cut into the present, the future leaks out,” declares a craggy voiced sample of late Beat novelist William S. Burroughs near the middle of Jack White’s avant-rock tune “Into the Twilight.” In the Fifties, the Naked Lunch author popularized an radical style of writing he dubbed “the cut-up technique,” which involved typing out his thoughts, vivisecting the sheet of paper, and then rearranging the composition into something new, hoping the words made new sense in a new order. That spirit seems to be what modern-art enthusiast Jack White (remember De Stijl?...

Actors Jung Woo-sung and Hwang Jung-min are confirmed be teaming up once again with Kim Sung-su, the director of the hard-hitting “Asura: The City of Madness” for new project “Spring in Seoul”. They will be joined by Park Hae-joon, who was last seen in the Netflix horror film, “The 8th Night” and will also have an important role to play in the upcoming “Emergency Declaration”.
Not much is known about “Spring in Seoul” yet, except that it is “a movie based on a real event that shook modern Korean history in the late 1970s.” Other cast members are yet to be finalised. Kim Sung-soo’s previous directing credits also include “Beat”, “City of the Rising Sun” and “Musa”, all with Jung Woo-sung.
Production on “Spring in Seoul” is expected to crank in some point in February, 2022. This is one to keep a keen eye out for!
