Not the worst film that I have seen this year....but that's not saying too much.
jmix6618 April 2018
Just....awful.

Michael Beach is a journeyman actor, but even cannot save this POS. Let's review:

1) A shark scientist who looks like a stripper (Or the director/producer's girlfriend) 2) Assorted people around to get eaten by sharks. 3) A billionaire who travels alone 4) A billionaire who apparently has only a single attorney 5) Zodiac boats used for traveling to locations way offshore 6) A shark trainer who doesn't seem to understand sharks. 7) A shark scientist who's also a pain in the a*s whiner 8) Zero suspense 9) Nobody who understands science working at the facility (You know...like physics) 10) Not a single character who you can care about.

Terrible film that would have been better on Syfy as an Asylum project. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

In the deep blue sea you can hear the Piranha-sharks Squeal and chirp! lol
omendata21 April 2018
When you go into this just be aware it was bought by the Scifi channel so expect the usual low budget effects and terrible acting and you won't be too disappointed.

I did not know that sharks squeak when they are angry - you learn something new every day...Like not to watch movies like this unless you are drunk or stoned!

Some shocks but not much , not really what shark movie fans would find scary - Stick with great movies like Jaws, Open Water , The Reef and the original Deep Blue Sea but this doesn't compare on any level!

Horrible and pointless of a shark thriller.
cruise0119 April 2018
Deep Blue Sea 2 (1 out of 5 stars).

Deep Blue Sea 2 is a direct to dvd sequel that should not have been made. The first film was no masterpiece of a thriller. But it did set up a fun concept of scientists working on an underwater laboratory were experiments on sharks made them faster and smarter. Plus the original was better made than this sequel. The action and thrills were well executed. It had LL Cool J and Thomas Jane trying to survive the shark attacks. This sequel fails at everything which is what you can expect for a straight to dvd movie. Cheesy acting, horrible dialogue, terrible direction and logic with the characters. It tried having a similar concept idea like the first movie. Like the main character being a pro at swimming and facing against the sharks. A maniac scientist that is obsessed with the research. And a wise talking side kick to the main character that is cocky about himself knowing best.

The plot follows Dr. Misty (Danielle Savre) who believes sharks are conservative creatures. That they only harm people when they are mistaken. Dr. Misty joins in this top research facility that is below the ocean. Where they are experimenting on sharks to help combat human diseases. Trent (Rob Mayes) an ex military notices that the sharks may be planning to escape.

This film was horrible. From a cheesy opening credits of watching Dr. Misty swimming with sharks looking like it's an opening credits to a 1970s James Bond film. The film is filled with bad performances. The script is filled with bad dialogue. And an annoying performance from Michael Beach who becomes obsessed with his research. And sees random algorithms out of nowhere.

The film also lacks thrills and scares. Seeing these obvious cheesy cgi sharks is bad. Seeing them jump out of a water pool to attack someone was even worse. This may be fitting in the category with the Sharknado films. And the direction is not coherent with the characters making choices. They make terrible decisions. And than decide to follow the corridor that would be an escape route.

Overall, Deep Blue Sea 2 is horrible. It may not be the sequel we were looking for. It is so bad. Acting, direction, and action is just one long bore. I would not recommend the film at all.

Why can't I give this 0 stars?
jrfhy30 June 2018
The acting was atrocious all around. I wanted all of the characters to die. The plot had so many holes, the script was likely written by a middle school student, and the set was obviously low budget. I made the mistake of watching it before looking at the IMDB rating. After the torturous hour and a half, I looked on IMDB, saw the 3.2 rating (which is generous), and then saw that the channel "SyFy" had purchased the movie. Oh my, that's worse than straight to DVD. If you are looking for a good shark movie, don't waste your time with this one. The sharks don't really get enough screen time.

Immediately annoying
terrencepatrix18 April 2018
I just don't understand why this film exists. The first one was, for me, the best kind of shlock. Fun characters, random and shocking deaths, absurd plot...it was undoubtedly stupid but it was fun and that's why it worked.

This one doesn't have any of that. It's just cheap with lame uninteresting characters in a horrible looking set. The undersea lab is just plain pathetic, it looks like it's straight out of a 1990's C-movie, that's how dated and lame it is. I got about 40 minutes into this and nothing happened, the acting was terrible, there's no special effects, it's just a pointless movie.

Don't waste your time watching this.

This movie is not worth watching.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is so predictable, the acting is so bad and the props laughable. A brilliant billionaire named Carl Durant is experimenting on bull sharks, if he is so brilliant why is he surrounded by moron employees. After 17 minutes you know all actors whom are in the movie just to be eaten by the sharks. After 40 minutes you start wishing the sharks are eating everyone in a hurry so you can go home and watch a movie on Netflix. Please give me back my money!

Deep Blue Sea - Green Screen!
Patient44417 April 2018
Wow was this movie bad or what? I for one think it went as a sequel and not a remake, sure, it has plenty of similarities, but there would be close to no point in remaking a movie with a low budget, bad CGI, even weak acting.

So they decided they needed to make yet another Shark movie. With all these indie productions from Asylum and other companies, it is quite hard to make one that will pop-up. And here is where Deep Blue Sea comes into place. The first one, as we all know, was an excellent cheesy fun horror, that delivered plenty!

Part 2 tho, shows nothing new. Some special effects that bow down to those from the original Poltergeist, actors that went too far most of the time, predictable plot and no fun whatsoever! Or scares for that matter. They just went full in with Super Smart Sharks! SSS but no $$$ to support the idea and we are left with an abysmal movie! Such a shame.

Truly, my only regret is the fact that they bonded this one to the original. Deep Blue Sea stands for something!

Cheers!

Terrible.. acting was really bad, story was almost a complete rehash of the first one minus a few new elements. Don't waste your time, just rewatch the first one. I watch this with the hope it would be half as good as the first, it definitely wasn't.

So bad.... it is funny
cliff_bd21 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This film is so bad it had me laughing out loud!

The movie starts off by trying to build foundation of a good movie, but then soon the movie starts to self destruct into a bunch duplicated scenes from the original film Deep Blue Sea movie (which I liked).

The under sea laboratory first had me laughing, Rob Mayes character (who?) runs from the laboratory to the surface in seconds to check on a disturbance and finds a boat has crashed into the generator that just happens to be next to a pile of petrol drums and fire is erupting everywhere .... he then runs back to the laboratory and locks the door and does not mention the blazing inferno on the surface to anyone!! Later in the movie the under sea laboratory is protrayed as a deep sea facility when moments before Rob Mayes ran to the surface and back to laboratory in seconds!!

The remainder of the movie are scenes shamelessly copied from the original movIe and very badly reshot.... and not only that any semblance of a story is now thrown out the window, as the sharks Attack the underwater facility and the movie cast are subject to scene after scene of water erupting from everywhere and various shark attacks .....you have to watch it for the comedy value!

But I would recommend watching the first movie before you watch DBS2 to completely appreciate how bad and funny DBS2 is.

I gave the movie 3 stars because it make me laugh so much!

If you were expecting Shakespeare then you didn't see Deep Blue Sea
daveelmorto7 June 2019
By no means is this Jaws, or even Pirahna 3D, but as far as DTV sequels go, it does the job. There's gore, there's supposedly smart characters making dumb decisions at the worst times... Yes the original was far superior, however it had a mega budget compared to this. I can honestly say that Deep Blue Sea is one of my favorite shark films, but I can also say I have seen Deep Blue Sea 2 more times than I have seen the original (OK, so I had a flu and it was the only disc in the PS3) I still accepted as a dumb fun shark film... Give it a go in that mindframe and it I'd what it is... Enjoy folks

Good for a direct to video sequel // ignore the negative comments
theromanempire-113 June 2018
Those who bush this sequel must have watched a different shark movie or they are just bitter this was not like the first and superior movie but that's to be expected. the first movie was a theatrical release and had Jackson in it. the first movie will always be among the very top shark movies ever together with jaws, shark attack and a few others. that doesn't mean that if the sequel was not like the first movie then it sucked. first of all u must take to account this was a direct to video with no great stars. no matter it was a good sequel with messages plot story and shark action. the production was very good and the story keeps u heated in your sheet but only if u love shark movies. this is sure not a masterpiece but there a lot worst shark movies out there. if u are a fan like me u will buy the dvd to have it in your shark dvd movies collection. the villain was great and for a B movie it was great.

GRADE B- = 7 out of 10.

Just a Poor Remake
larrys318 April 2018
As I recall the original 1999 film, it was hokey at times, but could be fun and entertaining. As another reviewer mentioned, this is more of a remake than any sequel. Wooden acting here, stilted dialogue, and even the attempted humor rarely works. Overall, just a cheap imitation of the original that I would steer clear of.

You're going to need a bigger budget. Originality got killed here last week, and you knew it! You knew there was a shark out there!

Warning: Spoilers
A billionaire experimenting on bull sharks, soon cause havoc for a visiting group of scientists.

One of the oddest deja vú experiences for all the wrong reasons. Deep Blue Sea 2 is less of a sequel and more of a straight to video remake of the 1999 original. Complete with a smaller shed on the water with a state-of-the-art facility below the surface.

Director Darin Scott offers a darker look, more buckets of CGI blood but it's not cinematic, it's hampered by the lack of budget, bottom of the barrel TV look with filtered lighting. The actors do their best with the recycled script and storyline from the original. Bull sharks replace the Makos.

There's a few tweaks - the sharks tunnel rather than jump fences, they attack an illegal shark finning duo instead of partying teens in the opening, the sleeping shark doesn't eat the entrepreneur Durant, it eats another cast member instead, there's no parrot just lots more CGI. It mocks some of the original urinating in the wind dialogue. The story beats are pretty much the same only they destroy the compound themselves. And there's a tagged on ending where the sharks head to attack some beach goers.

Why Warner Bros. went all 90's Disney straight to video with this sequel/remake only Samuel L. Jackson character knows. Maybe to cash in on the release up and coming The Meg or off the back of the better 47 Meters Down and The Shallows.

It's notable redeeming features are American Emily Blunt-a-like Danielle Savre and some real great white footage.

If you're interested in seeing what the flawed but entertaining original would have looked like with a first draft script and Syfy channel budget, this is a must see, for the less curious swim as far away from this as possible.

Often feels more like a remake than a sequel.
BA_Harrison17 April 2018
With the trailer for Jason Statham blockbuster The Meg dropping last week, I felt in the mood for some silly shark horror. Look what swam my way...

While it's hard to hate too much on a film in which the lead actress appears to be unable to zip up her coat or wetsuit because of her heaving chest, Deep Blue Sea 2 really isn't that great, being a predictable rehash of the first film, the set-up and structure almost identical to Renny Harlin's '99 hit. Imaginative it most certainly is not.

Danielle Savre plays shark expert Misty Calhoun (which sounds more like a stripper's name than a scientist's), who is hired by eccentric billionaire Carl Durant (Michael Beach) to join his team in the high-tech undersea lab where they are conducting experiments on bull sharks. As in Harlin's movie, the crew of the facility become trapped below the surface, leaving them to try and find a way to the top before the complex floods or they are eaten, either by the artificially intelligent sharks or a school of equally ravenous offspring.

Presumably working on a much lower budget than the original, director Darin Scott must be given credit for achieving some well-executed CGI effects sequences, and a couple of decent gory moments (most graphic scene: a character minus his lower half, his entrails hanging from his torso), but for the most part the action is rather unremarkable, devoid of suspense or tension, a case of 'seen it all before and done much better'.

Utterly Terrible
neilcjenkins16 July 2018
A direct remake rather than a sequel. Utterly terrible in every aspect. Poor writing, dreadful acting, weak sets, lousy cgi sharks.... the list just goes on and on.

Rewatch the original, The Shallows, or even give Jaws 2 some love not this.

This movie isn't bad like everyone says
klinemichaelah11 June 2018
My absolute favorite movies are shark movies. Ive watched every shark movie you could imagine. I think this movie was pretty damn good and the only thing I could say needs work is the motion picture, the sharks look fake and it's obvious, hence why I gave a rating of 8 instead of 10.

I like when the sharks look more real. But this was a good movie, it was funny, there was thrill, it was well played.

I would recommend watching this to see for yourself because I got on here and read like 5 or 6 reviews before I even watched the movie and I'm actually glad I ignored everyone's negative reviews because I enjoyed the movie.

Nice gore, but written in crayon...
lojitsu23 October 2018
Oct 15

A-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."Deep Blue Sea 2" (R - 2018 - US)...meh.

Sub-Genre: Monster/Gore My Score: 5.5

Cast=3 Acting=3 Plot=6 Ending=7 Story=4 Scare=5 Jump=7 F/X=6 Monster=6 Gore=8

A brilliant billionaire named Carl Durant is experimenting on bull sharks, which soon rebel to cause havoc for a group of scientists.

"They're learning how to learn and they like it!" It's gems like this like that can tall you it's not very well written. Also while I can appreciate the leading lady to be beautiful, but to have her do things like zip up the wetsuit just enough to show cleavage takes away her intellect and the strength of the film. The gore was sound, though...it felt more like a SyFy channel movie so I can't give it anymore than a meh.

A soft reboot that goes nowhere
The first Deep Blue Sea was cheesy but fun. I rented this one hoping for more of the same in that regard.

This film looks good. With that being said, that's about all it had going for it. Frankly, it was boring. I didn't care about any of the characters. It more or less rehashed the plot of the first film with just a couple of minor tweaks. The FXs ranged from good to bad. Some of it looked solid, others like a very low-budget asylum style film. Don't get me wrong, I can deal with less than even FXs if the story is engaging enough, but you don't even get that.

This felt more like a soft reboot than a sequel. It just doesn't work. I enjoy some pretty bad movies, and I can usually find enjoyment in most anything film wise. I could barely pay attention to this it was so disengaging. There is zero tension and no dread, which might have at least knocked it up a little in the rating department. While the first one may not have been a masterpiece it at least had a few of those moments scattered throughout.

Danielle Savre was the one bright spot in the film. I actually enjoyed her performance and thought she stood out. It's just too bad she didn't have more to work with.

Maybe other people will enjoy this one but it sure as hell isn't for me. Definitely a one and done.

My Rating: 2.5/10
