- David Slaney breaks out of prison after 5 years under the pretense that he is working undercover for renegade detective Roy Patterson in an effort to help apprehend Slaney's old drug cartel partner Brian Hearn.
- Locked up after a drug deal goes wrong, David Slaney (Allan Hawco), a Newfoundland drug dealer, makes a daring break from a New Brunswick prison to attempt one more deal with his former partner, while RCMP detective Roy Patterson (Paul Gross) is hot on his heels.
- 1978. David has just broken out of Dorchester Penitentiary in New Brunswick after serving five years of his fifteen year sentence for dealing drugs. Although the plan orchestrated by his support team doesn't go off exactly as it is supposed to, David is still able to elude the authorities to get away successfully. He decides first to go back to his old haunts as a place familiar to him. But his ultimate goal is to get back in touch with Brian, who he felt abandoned him when he got caught five years ago. Brian, in Cancun, has to look for other opportunities as his drug network in the US has slowly been dismantled by the DEA, he personally still having eluded their pursuit. In Brian finding those other opportunities, David may find that the draw of big money overtakes any negative feelings he has for Brian. What Brian may find an additional problem is Cyril bringing a "broad" into their lives, Ada, who Brian doesn't yet fully trust. David also finds that what was promised by his support team that aided in his escape may not be all it appeared on the surface. Meanwhile Roy, his personal and professional life crumbling around him, approaches KC knowing that she is the one who led the charge in dismantling the drug network despite Avery and his old boys network taking all the credit. Roy's pitch to KC is to be partners in bringing down Brian, who KC knows as the phantom John Barlow. Despite the carrot of the end goal, KC has to decide if the risks are worth the reward, even if it means getting out of Avery's shadow once and for all.—Huggo
