Life-affirming song gets a nice performance from John Farnham
I remember this song thanks to a Coca-Cola commercial showing lots of positive people and positively random events where the narrator kept inviting us to enjoy life
and do the crazy things we want while playing this as background. "You're the Voice" by John Farnham is a very affirmative and positive song that can lift anyone's mood.
After all we do have a voice and we must use it so we can get heard and change things around us. It's a music that invites to go into action mode. The clip isn't good enough like that commercial (of which I can't find anywhere) but it's watchable thanks to the electrifying performance of Farnham and his group, they deliver an excellent performance full of energy and good spirits.
What sort of like kills the experience is seeing the first minutes when there's an old archive image of a plane dropping bombs and hitting other planes, war time imagery and then cuts to actors playing a couple discussing over whatever matters, there isn't much of story there. It all felt so randomly presented that I failed to establish a connection with the whole thing. Then, the majority of the video consists of Farnham and group performing the song with great enthusiasm. And let's us not forget the incredible bagpipes section during the instrumental solo part. Gotta love that, a rarity when it comes to pop/rock songs, specially the 1980's.
If the concept given was to present people overcoming their obstacles, facing life's challenges and succeeding it - which is a lot more alligned with the song's spirit - then we could have a better video than the one we had. This is worthy of view thanks to the incredibly catchy song, one of the biggest hits of that decade. 8/10.
