Michael Keaton's voice as Batman is the final voice saying "stop" in the video and song. It's a clip from Batman (1989) where he is summoning the Batmobile through a voice activated remote control.
The video also features Vicki Vale wearing a black dress with the words "All this and brains too", a reference to The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, in which a female news presenter wears a top with the same slogan.
The character Prince plays in the video is called "Gemini," which refers to Prince's astrological sign as well as the duality in his music. "Gemini" would also make an appearance in Prince: Partyman (1989).
Despite the song's success, the song did not appear on any of Prince's greatest hits compilation due to licensing restrictions related to the Batman franchise. It finally appeared on Prince's 4ever compilation album following the singer's death in 2016.
"Batdance" was released as the first single off of Prince's Batman (1989) soundtrack album. The song is Prince's fourth #1 U.S. hit.
