From Quatermass to Caltiki (2017)
**** (out of 4)
Film critic and historian Kim Newman takes part in this nineteen-minute featurette, which has him talking about CALTIKI, THE IMMORTAL MONSTER as well as the various other science-fiction movies that came from Italy and America. Newman starts off talking about how the Gothic horror films from Universal had pretty much dried up when stuff like THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD kicked off a whole new format. From here Newman shares some terrific stories about the production of CALTIKI as well as its influence on other science-fiction movies. If you're a fan of Newman or of the genre then this here is certainly a must-see because there's so much wonderful information on display. If you're not overly familiar with the genre then you'll love this even more as there are all sorts of details given about the films and how the horror/sci-fi market was changing over time.
