Fascinating...as usual
This installment of "American Masters" is unusual in that it's about a man who is nothing like previous subjects on the show. Mostly, you see shows about artists of various sorts--actors and actresses, painters, dancers and the like. In this case it's James Beard--a foodie who helped create and popularize modern American restaurant trends. You learn about his life, influences on him becoming a foodie as well as him impact on others. His story is told by many people who have known and loved him.
"American Masters" is one of the best shows on PBS and it's because of the high quality of the productions. They also manage to instill excitement in the viewer of the subject matter--and this one is no exception.
