Need better judges.
therossman5 September 2018
This show is very family friendly and enjoyable. However, the judges are so annoying and unbelievably boring I almost gave it a 4. The hosts make up for the judges inability to warm up to the audience. One makes ugly store front displays and the other's career is based on trends. How pathetic. They needed judges with real knowledge about home crafting. Amy and Nick are so entertaining I can almost forgive the others. Keep the show going with new judges.

Great show with only one weak link for me
darthbraindrain23 August 2018
I'm loving this show it's a lot of fun and they couldn't have chosen better presenters. That being said I do have one problem: the judge Dayna Isom Johnson is useless, she seems to be there just to mention etsy as many times as she possibly can (it's like she's been given a challenge to win a prize or something) I'm not even sure what qualifies her to be a judge cos to be honest any idiot can pick junk to sell on a website! But it does allow for a drinking game though I suppose: drink every time she mentions etsy.

Interesting but...

I never write reviews but the editing of this show bothered me so much I had to comment. I like Amy & Nick. They're funny without taking the spotlight. And the "makers" or crafters are (mostly) very talented & varied. But if you're someone watching who likes crafts, then you want to actually see the techniques people use to make things and then actually SEE the finished product. The quick edits don't allow for you to see any of this! Which is the entire point of the show. It's not an action movie. The editor needs to watch some cooking shows or some popular youtube crafters.

Very feel good and some very cool creations. However...

I really do love this show. Nick and Amy have a great chemistry, as seen on Parks and Rec, and they make for wonderful hosts for this show. I also love that the show is really putting crafting out there, and celebrating creativity.

The show is shot and edited in a very Great British Bake-Off way, and this seems completely intentional. The only downside to this is that the things being made here are much more intricate than baking, and so we don't get to see the majority of the stages that go into each participants creation.

I also think it might be cool if each episode a participant had a short segment where they shared a simple "make this at home" creation. One of the episodes Amber makes a very cool looking stool, which is just a paint bucket and some rope. Having a specific segment for quick crafts for the average viewer would make for a great entry for viewers to get into crafting too! Hell they could even ask you to post pictures on social media, and show them off the next episode!

Of course this all ties into run time though, so it could be a tough balancing act to do either of the things I suggest.

Thank you, Amy Poehler
melwisely-796417 September 2018
Thank you so much for a sweet show that the whole family can watch. In a world where everything is so nasty, rude and crude, it's nice to turn on a show where people seem to genuinely like each other. And, even thought it's a competition, people helped one another - on more than one occasion. Please make a second season... I'll definitely be watching!

If you are looking for a show that lets you escape from all the negative around us and see Nick and Amy together again this is your show. A truly excellent show!

I have really enjoyed this show. Gets better each episode. I love the hosts (they are hilarious!) and I also like the judges (don't understand why people are slamming the judges). Love how the contestants are so nice to each other. Love seeing their creations. Hope there will be more seasons!

Clean wholesome fun and whimsy, enjoyed the corny jokes and the real connections between the hosts and participants. Plus the actual workmanship was beautiful

Justice for Billy

Warning: Spoilers
This is an amazing show. So fun and creative. However.... Spoiler alert: episode 5 Amber makes the most disgusting garbage house in the world and the Billy the creative genius creates a Mardi Gras paradise. Yet billy is sent home. While certain people may think it is ok to wrap 2 walls in turf, it is most certainly not. Not even a little bit. Amber I'm speaking directly to you now, I hated your house and so did everyone else. Billy deserved your spot. If anyone knows how to contact the producers of this show please let me know

Love Amy Poehler and NickOfferman! Enjoy the crafting, BUT do not like the judges. Ugh! Snobbish and they just squash any homey feeling that Amy and Nick bring to the show. Has potential, but could be so much better.

Fantastic craftsmanship on display
zachgiordano2 August 2018
The heart of this show is truly the artists, sharing their crafts and bearing their souls. The results are incredible. These are some supremely talented people. And Nick and Amy are hilarious as hosts and mentors, natch. You will not regret watching this show.

If they got all new judges, the show would be so much better.

"Making It" is a very frustrating show to watch. While I enjoy watching Amy Pohler and Nick Offerman as well as the contestants and their fine work, the program has one huge problem that make me unsure if I'll watch a season 3 if it ever is made. The problem is the god-awful judges. They are really annoying people in so many ways. One loves to mention Etsy repeatedly....and we know they are a sponsor, but PLEASE enough already. Second, they seem really, really annoying...unlike everyone else on the show. Likable they are not! Third, their choices of the best and worst crafting projects seem almost arbitrary...or perhaps are intended to favor mommy bloggers....preferring them over more obviously talented folks. Because of that, I found so many choices the judges made truly bizarre and frustrating....and this is a HUGE part of the show. With likable and consistent judges, I might rate this show an 8 or 9...perhaps even a 10. The idea is good....but some retooling is really necessary to make it a great show. So, if you are associated with the program, I hope you read this and consider that perhaps your show could do better choosing judges who seem to have talent and likability...like Offerman and Pohler, the hosts.

By the way, I found it really weird that one of the judges who is supposed to be a god among interior decorators had no idea WHAT or WHO Chippendale was (I am NOT referring to the dancers!). I am no interior decorator but know about Thomas Chippendale and know about his impact on furniture centuries ago...impact you can still see today.

Meh
t_bhateja6 December 2019
Season 2 edit: please (for the love of GOD) stop sharing everyone's sob stories. It's called Making It, not "everyone tell your sob stories to try to win". Also, please can we have unfiltered Amy and Nick? Like you guys are hilarious but your jokes are so watered down for TV.

This show had so much potential. When I heard there was a show coming to TV I was excited. And when I heard Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman were going to be on it I damn near lost my mind with excitement. This is pretty much the only saving grace.

Ok, here's my beef with this show

1) Dayna Isom Johnson is probably the worst choice for a judge. Pretty sure they only picked her so they can get supplies of Etsy for cheap. Which is probably every 60 seconds they mention Etsy. Etsy is just overpriced junk from China. You can literally find everything on Ebay and AliExpress for pennies. Ok, so getting back to this judge. Why does she always want emotion and sentiments with crafts? I mean, hello! Most of us crafters make things on a whim and hope it turns out okay. Like maybe only 5% are we thinking about how this could be connected to our childhood pets. The contestants know how to win by pulling at Jayna's heart strings. Amy Poehler called it when she asked Jayna what she thinks about lying. Seriously. I mean, it's incredibly obvious that the second season contestants are doing this (it's pretty gross). Also, she wants things that are incredibly gaudy. On the first season one of the makers made such a beautify birch wood mosaic piece and she called it boring and dull with not enough color. The quality was in the craftmanship and the grain of the wood.

2) Simon is alright, but super weird. He always wants something too eccentric though. Sometimes crafts are just crafts.

3) Stop trying to give everyone a patch in the beginning. Give the patches to those that deserve it.

4) This point is crucial. Why are Nick Offerman and Amy Poehler so watered down? The cheesy puns and Amy playing dumb got old so fast. There's wholesome TV and there's just boring TV. Right now this show is pretty lame. I pretty much have to keep the show on the side of my window (if I find there's nothing better to watch) and forward until I see crafts. Maybe bring better writers? Do something because I really need this show to do well. I love crafting and for the first time there's a show on TV about it.

Get different judges (esp those that don't say Etsy all the time) and better writers for Nick and Amy. Bring back that Parks and Rec charm with judges that can actually judge.

Loving it!

Its a cute competition show, with a bit of stupid humor. Its light hearted and the contestants aren't cut throat. You can really connect with them. It's not a show where you're going to learn anything, but it's still feel good reality TV.

Punny, crafty and fun to watch
hatkins131 September 2018
This is everything you need right now, laughs and fun projects!!

Amy and Nick do a great job hosting and the contestants are relatable for every demographic.

The judges can be a little too critical at times, but it doesn't detract. The contestants, while competing against each other, still help each other. Each contestant has a different background which means you see yourself in one of them; mom, young guy, etc.

For one hour each week you laugh and remember to be nice to each other.

Crafting AND comedy?? WIN!
coachjenaufc29 August 2018
Ahhhh this show is so refreshing! No drama, or forced scripted dialogue. Makes you want to get crafty and make something of your own. Positive vibes and tons of craft puns from Amy and Nick.

Great show layout and hosts - judging was lame
pumpkinmom-917236 September 2018
I really wanted to love this show to the point of giving it 10 stars, but the judging and editing were too distracting. The challenges were appropriate and interesting but the viewer barely got to see any of the "how to" and just a sweeping glimpse of the finished products. I actually got in the habit of pausing the tv to figure out what the end results were. The hosts were perfect - just enough campy humor to keep it light. The judges were ridiculous. Their critiques were pointless - zero constructive criticism or explanation of why they liked or disliked items and they seemed to contradict themselves from week to week. It would have been a 10 if they had a different judging team and better yet judged each project anonomously not knowing who did what. I hope they take everyone's comments to heart and do a second season.

A very light hearted and genuine show!
daltonfralish-482255 September 2018
This show was super fun to watch, and really opened up my creative side. It's not your typical competition show where the contestants are at each other's throat, instead the show promotes love and unity through craft. To all the haters out there giving it a 1 star rating with scathing reviews: you could learn a thing or two from this show by watching more than the first episode!

Boring, vapid.
rsvp32116 August 2018
You *won't* be inspired, or learn anything - there's no time spent on demonstrating how the contestants are fabricating items.

Most of the time is spent on dialogue, especially between the hosts.

Fail!

Great show!
gbentz1914 December 2019
It is so refreshing that this show fosters a sense of camaraderie and kindness between contestants rather than create artificial drama like other timed competition shows. Amy and Nick are great hosts and overall this show is entertaining and leaves a huge smile on my face. After watching I feel the need to get off the couch and create something of my own.

Good show- heavy on the tacky crafts. I mean tacky.
debdshaw604 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the concept. I love Amy and Nick together. The female judge likes tacky tacky tacky. The male judge seems like he'd actually be good if it wasn't being run by an Etsy agenda for cheap, crappy, glitter glue and overly used pastel patterns.

They had several real artists they voted out in favor of one person who makes everything look like scrapbooking and one who thinks spray painted hula hoops is awesome decor. They lost me when fabric wrapped pool noodles won and intricate wood work got sent home.

I mean, a guy built a shed with a roof that opened for star gazing with a Murphy bed and fireplace, one guy built a fantastic shed to emulate a New Orleans bar, one woman had gold hula hoops and bad wallpaper and about ten shades of pink that didn't match, the other had an overly busy pastel craft shed that tacky judge didn't think was tacky and busy enough but she won anyway while fantastic bar guy went home.

Tacky tacky tacky

Such high hopes, only to be dashed upon the rocks...
Ackthbpt13 August 2018
I love Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, but this show just isn't doing it for me. The humor is cheesy at best and forced/unnatural at worst. God forbid they show you HOW the crafts are made. I know, I know, that's a crazy expectation when watching a crafting show.

And the worst (Etsy) part is that (myBluPrint) I can't (Etsy) tell who (Etsy) sponsors (Etsy) the (myBluPrint) show. It's such a (Etsy) mystery.

Heartwarming, funny, interesting and impressive!
miltrobinreynolds9 September 2018
I've thoroughly enjoyed this series. As a crafter, potter, woodworker and orthotics tech I saw top-notch skill and artistic expression. The crafters felt real, and I was drawn into their stories and journey. The banter and comedy of Nick and Amy was fun, balanced and contributed to the success of the show. The disappointment of losing a crafter after each episode was genuine yet essential to the goal of the show: how do artists, creators and crafters deal with competition, critique and success; how does crafting and art help us love others?
