“If you loved him the way we did, you would say, well, why him and not us?” Tyrese Gibson says in the official trailer for Adrian Buitenhuis’ documentary “I Am Paul Walker.” The emotional look at the life of the late actor is debuting on Paramount Network next month, and the trailer below guarantees every viewer is going to need a box of tissues.

Ten years ago, anticipation was astronomically high for Christopher Nolan’s sequel to Batman Begins,The Dark Knight. It wasn’t just another comic book spectacle — it was the first movie to star Heath Ledger since the actor’s shocking death at 28.
In early 2008, months before The Dark Knight opened on July 18, an exhausted Ledger retreated to his New York City apartment to try and get some rest and recuperate from an illness he couldn’t shake.
Despite warnings from friends and family about mixing sleeping pills with prescription medications, the Brokeback Mountain star was found dead on January 22, 2008 in his apartment.

A documentary charting the life and film work of the late Paul Walker will arrive later this year...
A new documentary has been commissioned, that’ll tell the story of the life of the late Paul Walker.
Walker sprung to fame off the back of his work in the Fast & Furious movies, and was mid-way through shooting Fast & Furious 7 when he died at the age of just 40 in a car accident. The completed film was, appropriately, dedicated to him.
The documentary, I Am Paul Walker, has been commissioned by Paramount Network, which will premiere it over the summer. It’ll feature interviews with his castmates and friends, and also cover his environmental work, on top of his film career.
Adrian Buitenhuis, who directed the recent I Am Heath Ledger documentary, is putting this one together.

Heath Ledger's Joker will go down as one of the most iconic versions of the character ever. He was just so freakin' great in the role! He brought that character to life in the most terrifying way imaginable and it's hard to think that anyone will be able to top what he did.
It's been ten years since Heath Ledger tragically passed away. He was only 28-years-old and he had such an amazing career ahead of him. Every time I watch a movie with him in it, it still kinda stings that he's gone.
Lots of fans have wondered if Ledger would have reprised his role of The Joker in the third Batman film had he not passed away. Well, after all these years Ledger's sister Kate has revealed that he did plan on playing The Joker again.
During an interview last year with the Australian news outlet news.

To think it is ten years since Heath Ledger died shows how fast things seem to go these days. One thing we can be sure of though even after ten years is that Ledger left his mark on the world, and is still missed. In I Am Heath Ledger we get an intimate look into just who he was, not only through interviews with his friends, but his own self-made video collection and images created by the man himself.
It always feels like one of those unfair tragedies that not only did he die, but it happened just as The Dark Knight would have made him a bigger star than he already was. Cementing his spot as one of the best actors to play The Joker, his performance almost felt like it could never be bested by anybody who came after him. Some even pointed to the intensity of the...

A clip released from the recent I Am Heath Ledger documentary shows the late, great actor channeling his portrayal of the Joker for Christopher Nolan’s comic book opus, The Dark Knight.
Unveiled via JoBlo, the 9-minute promo features archived footage of Heath Ledger slipping into the iconic role, while there’s also an interview with Steve Alexander, Ledger’s former agent, about the time when he accepted that by-now famous gig as DC’s Clown Prince of Crime.
It’s a heartfelt and poignant tribute to the actor, who passed away almost a decade ago. Here, Alexander remembers the phone call he made to Heath Ledger about the vacant Joker role, and how he accepted it without a second’s hesitation.

You’ve probably seen Norman Seeff’s work before. Maybe it’s Tina Turner in all of her energetic glory. Or perhaps Mick Jagger looking somewhat puckish. Over the years, he’s snapped Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Jim Henson, Martin Scorsese, John Travolta, Frank Zappa Joni Mitchell, and many more.
Seeff isn’t just any celebrity photographer though, and there’s a reason why his images are vibrant and unique. Don’t be fooled by the title. While it’s true that “I Am Heath Ledger” is peppered with home video footage shot by its dearly departed namesake, this somewhat hagiographic documentary isn’t a first-person account, it’s not a direct address from beyond the grave. Brought to you by the same guy who has previously claimed to be Chris Farley, Bruce Lee, and a handful of other Hollywood legends who died at the height of their fame, director Derik Murray is no more Heath Ledger than he was any of those other iconoclasts, but — nauseatingly presumptuous title aside — the newest installment of his non-fiction franchise is a tender, worthwhile remembrance for an irrepressible star whose light continues to shine upon the people he left behind.

The feature length made for TV doc receiving its world premiere at Tribeca, I Am Heath Ledger, will be a moving experience for fans of the late star and posthumous Oscar-winner.
It maps his journey from being a Perth schoolboy to a Hollywood leading man, as well as his artistic growth, evident with each new role, using home video, childhood photographs, on set behind the scenes footage, film clips and interviews. It’s a portrait of an energetic artist in control of his own career, always looking for the next creative challenge.

What makes I Am Heath Ledger worth seeking out is the intimate video footage, much of which was shot by Ledger himself, who we learn was rarely without a camera in hand. With no formal training, Ledger honed his screen acting...

Some movies are ahead of their times, but Laura Poitras’ “Risk” has grown into its moment. When the Julian Assange documentary premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar, it was a sturdy, one-sided salute to the Wikileaks founder, positioning him as a valiant defender of civil liberties and the freedom of information.
Unleashing government documents from a variety of anonymous sources, Assange is seen as a new-age journalist leaking news with purpose. The movie ended with the pale-skinned Australian trapped in the confines of London’s Ecuadorian embassy, escaping what he claims to be trumped-up sexual harassment charges designed to take him down. Poitras’ close-up access leaves us with the impression of Assange trapped in his sanctuary, hard at work, a martyr for his cause still intent on fighting on.
But a funny thing happened on the way to that revolution: Assange’s image changed dramatically...

It’s been the better part of a decade since “Buried,” “Devil,” and “Frozen” (the one about flesh-eating wolves, not the one about princesses) all hit theaters in the same year, and, for a moment there, it almost seemed as though the sub-genre those films share had started to lose its appeal. No such luck. Alas, we are still living in the golden age of single-location thrillers, even if most of them are bronze-level at best. If anything, Doug Liman’s passably entertaining new film suggests that we should brace ourselves for more such contained and claustrophobic exercises in suspense, whether we like them or not.
Arriving in theaters just a few weeks after the similarly scaled “Mine” was buried on VOD, “The Wall” may not be well-structured, but Liman’s latest still serves as an imposing reminder that — as movies get riskier to make and the gulf between blockbusters...

At the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of the documentary I Am Heath Ledger, Kate Ledger, the sister of the late actor, tried to dispel the long-whispered speculation that her brother’s death had something to do with his role in The Dark Knight. Before his death in 2008, Ledger himself described suffering from insomnia and trying to treat it with prescription drugs during his legendary turn as the mass-murdering, psychopathic Batman villain The Joker, for which he won a posthumous Academy Award. But according to his sister, as reported by The Telegraph, all the depression and turmoil Heath was rumored to have been going during the film’s production, as well as the creepy Joker journal he’d constructed, was normal for the famously dedicated actor.
“I was really shocked, because that was him having fun,” The Telegraph reports her as saying. “Every report was coming out that he was ...

Heath Ledger won a posthumous Academy Award for his haunting portrayal of the Joker in 2008's The Dark Knight, but there have been long-standing rumors that the role continued to have a very serious effect on the actor even after the cameras stopped rolling. Heath's sister, Kate, decided to finally put an end to that talk when she attended the premiere of the documentary I Am Heath Ledger in New York City on Monday. "I was really shocked, because that was him having fun," she told The Daily Telegraph. "Every report was coming out that he was depressed and that [the role] was taking this toll on him, and we're going, honestly, it was the absolute opposite. It couldn't be more wrong." Nine years after Heath Ledger's tragic death from an accidental prescription drug overdose, the late actor is getting new life in the feature-length documentary, I Am Heath Ledger, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last night. According to the film's director Derik Murray, the documentary gives insight into the life of the troubled Aussie, who may be remembered by the public for his turns in 10 Things I Hate About You, Brokeback Mountain and of course, his Oscar-winning role in The Dark Knight, but is remembered by those close to him as a father to his daughter Matilda Ledger and a loyal friend. When E! News caught up with director last night at Tribeca, Murray...

When was the last time you thought to yourself, “gee, I can’t wait for a Spike TV documentary?” It’s not that Spike isn’t good at… erm, what they do for their audience—cable channel programming for male adults—but let’s face it, their reality TV and sports programming (shows by Adam Carolla, Dave Navarro’s tattoo show and “Lip Sync Battle”), doesn’t actually scream captivating documentaries that make their debut at reasonably prestigious festivals like the Tribeca Film Festival.

Every year, celebrities, filmmakers, journalists and movie fans flock to the Tribeca neighborhood in lower Manhattan for the Tribeca Film Festival, an illustrious celebration of film and television that features some of the most exciting projects and panel discussions of any media festival in the country.
Founded by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in 2001, shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the festival has helped revitalize the city and remind both filmmakers and fans alike of New York City’s valued place in film and TV while becoming a welcoming community for voices and perspectives from all over the world. “It’s also a fabric of our city. So whether or not it’s a film from Israel or Palestine or something for kids, our festival was about community and it still is,” Rosenthal tells Et. “It’s about bringing community together.”

You can’t accuse the Tribeca Film Festival (April 19-30) of bandwagon jumping: Back in 2005, it screened the series finale of “Friends” outdoors on a Hudson pier for rapturous fans. Today, TV is a fait d’accompli as Tribeca expands its second annual TV program to 15 shows and five series. Golden-age TV draws viewers, Hollywood filmmakers, and a wider audience.
Last year, the TV program included world premieres of “The Night Of” (HBO, from Oscar-winning executive producer Steve Zaillian), “The Night Manager” (AMC, directed by Oscar-winning Susanne Bier), and “O.J.: Made in America” (Espn, directed by eventual Oscar-winner Ezra Edelman).

Heath Ledger will always be one of the biggest “what could have been” stories in Hollywood. The “what he was” has already been established in the sense that Ledger kept growing as an actor until he put it all together for his incredible performance as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. It was in this film that we saw just how talented and special Ledger was and I think all of us agree that he would have had a legendary career had he not passed away at such a young age. “He was always a director.
