French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat first burst onto the scene in 2017 with a shocking rape-revenge film fittingly titled "Revenge." The movie first premiered to tremendous buzz at the Toronto International Film Festival, played at Sundance months later, and eventually was picked up by Neon for distribution in the United States. In his review for /Film at the time, Ethan Anderton wrote that:
"There's an endless supply of revenge thrillers in cinema, and among them are also plenty of thrillers about a woman who wants retaliation after being raped by a man. That's exactly what 'Revenge' delivers, but what makes this particular thriller stand...

Exclusive: Universal Pictures and Working Title Films have set Demi Moore and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘s Margaret Qualley to star in The Substance, with Coralie Fargeat (Revenge) directing her script. She also is producing alongside Working Title partners Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.
This will mark the French filmmaker’s first studio feature. She made her helming debut on Revenge, which premiered at the 2017 Toronto and played Sundance a few months later and was then released by Neon.
Specifics on The Substance are being kept under wraps, but Deadline hears it is Fargeat’s explosive feminist take on body horror. Production begins in Paris this May.
Moore most recently lent her voice to QCode’s podcast Dirty Diana, which is being adapted into an Amazon series that Moore will executive produce and star in. She next will be seen in the feature Please Baby Please, which kicked of the 2022 Rotterdam film festival.

It’s been 10 years since audiences first met Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) in her quest for revenge on the wealthy Grayson family, who she believed were responsible not only for her father going to prison, but also for his death.
Loosely based on “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas, the series, aptly titled “Revenge,” ran four four seasons on ABC, from 2011-2015. It followed Emily (real name Amanda Clarke) as she moved to the Hamptons to carry out her plan, only to become more embroiled with the Graysons than even she could have expected and to learn secrets about her father than shocked even her.
Here, the cast and crew talk about the series’ overnight success, the confines of network television and about the departure of a key figure integral to the show’s DNA.

On September 21st, 2011, Revenge premiered on ABC. The show focused on protagonist Emily Thorne's (Emily VanCamp) quest for revenge against those who framed her father for terrorism. It lasted four successful and thrilling seasons.
It's been ten years since we first saw Emily hold that red sharpie, and while August 8th is considered Revenge Day by some, we couldn't let this ten-year anniversary pass without paying tribute to this iconic show.
TV Fanatic Staff Writers Leora Waltuch, Laura Nowack, and Paul Daily got together to discuss what they loved, what they hated, and whether or not we want a reboot.
Laura: It's hard to believe it's been ten years.
Paul: Yeah.
Leora: Think back to that day ten years ago. What was your initial impression of the show?
Laura: I liked the mystery aspect, which stayed for three seasons and then left on Revenge Season 4.
Leora: Revenge Season 4 was definitely the weakest season.

The idea of a series starring Black characters on a historically Black, monied island that’s completely unconcerned with the white power structures beyond it is a juicy one. Created by Karin Gist of Fox’s “Star” and “Revenge,” and executive produced by Lee Daniels, “Our Kind of People” embraces its singularity. Whereas something like HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” takes pains to diversify the typically white social strata of the Upper East Side, “Our Kind of People” unfolds in the Oak Bluffs corner of Martha’s Vineyard, where the “Black elite” have long established their wealthy bonafides. In theory, adapting Lawrence Otis Graham’s history of the area (“Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class”) into a primetime soap opera is a sharp idea. In execution, at least in the first two episodes screened ahead of the show’s Sept. 21 linear premiere, “Our Kind of People...

Ten years ago, executive producer/creator/writer Mike Kelley rejuvenated the primetime soap opera with the ABC series Revenge. The serial drama, which debuted September 21, 2011, and quickly became a guilty pleasure, told the story of Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), a former Hamptonite who returned to seek revenge against the wealthy Grayson family and their various hangers-on. Armed with a burning desire for justice, unlimited financial resources, and a pack of red Sharpies, Emily (born Amanda Clarke) eliminated individuals who had framed her father, David Clarke (James Tupper), for conspiring with the terrorists who brought down Flight 197, killing all 247 souls on board. Emily couldn’t account for every contingency, but the fun was watching her take control and remain two steps ahead of her adversaries—especially Victoria Grayson, played by the unparalleled Madeleine Stowe. Dark Shadows: Reincarnation would continue the story of the supernatural Collins family.
Dark Shadows is coming back to TV. According to Deadline, The CW and Warner Bros. are developing a Gothic horror drama called Dark Shadows: Reincarnation based on the TV soap created by Dan Curtis. The series, should it be picked up, would be an hour-long drama.
Dark Shadows: Reincarnation would be a sequel of sorts to the 1966 cult classic that came before, a modern-day continuation that follows the Collins family of Collinsport, Maine who are—yes, reader—in fact a family of supernatural creatures. The most popular of the original show was vampire Barnabas Collins (played by Jonathan Frid), whose appearance 10 months into the airing of the show rocketed the series into popularity. The show also featured ghosts, werewolves, zombies, witches, warlocks, time travel, and your traditional parallel universe. Basically, it was a show that...

If asked to list off what we could not forgive our partner for, cheating, abuse, and violence would be high on the list. We would also sight dishonesty, manipulation, and countless others.
If our paramour came to us asking for forgiveness after committing one of these acts, we would most likely send them packing. If we didn't, our friends would likely encourage us to seek therapy.

Exclusive: I have learned that Daniel Zovatto has been tapped for a lead role in Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, a followup to Penny Dreadful from the original series’ creator, writer and executive producer John Logan.
A spiritual descendant of the story set in Victorian-era London, the next chapter employ a new vision, new characters and storylines. It opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with Mexican-American folklore and social tension. Rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the Devil, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will explore an exciting mix of the supernatural and the combustible reality of that period, creating new occult myths and moral dilemmas within a genuine historical backdrop.
I hear Zovatto will play Tiago. While City of Angels is being positioned as an ensemble series,...

Paris — Two Cannes Critics’ Week hits – ‘Guy,” “Sauvage” – and Erick Zonca’s comeback, “Black Tide,” are three potential highlights in a still-expanding MyFrenchFilmFestival, French promotion org UniFrance’s annual online selection of French and French-language films.
Unveiling MyFFF’s 2019 edition in Paris on Wednesday, UniFrance also revealed that this year’s ninth edition will bow a TV strand, showcasing espionage thriller “The Bureau,” a recent and game-changing Canal Plus Création Originale. The international filmmakers’ jury – unveiled by UniFrance’s president Serge Toubiana and co-managing director Isabelle Giordano on Wednesday morning at Google’s offices in Paris — comprises Jaco Van Dormael (“The Brand New Testament”), Houda Benyamina (“Divines”), Coralie Fargeat (“Revenge”), Mikhaël Hers (“Amanda”) and Kim Nguyen (“Rebelle”). Citing “Divines” which sold to Netflix, and “Revenge” which was acquired by AMC’s Shudder, Toubiana and Giordano said all the filmmakers on the jury have had a connection with a digital service.

"Everything passes with time. And then we're just dead." Ain't that the truth. Breaking Glass Pictures has unveiled the first official Us trailer for an acclaimed psychological thriller titled Holiday, about a young woman who discovers the luxurious holiday with her drug lord boyfriend and his "family" isn't as relaxing as it's supposed to be. Made by Swedish filmmaker Isabella Eklöf, it first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year then went on to play at tons of festivals throughout 2018. This reminds me a bit of Coralie Fargeat's Revenge, about a woman who gets back at the men who abuse her. Newcomer Victoria Carmen Sonne stars as Sascha, and the Danish cast includes Thijs Römer, Lai Yde, Morten Hemmingsen, and Michiel de Jong. This looks crazier than I was expecting, and I hope she gets some bloody sweet revenge. Here's the official Us trailer (+ original poster) for Isabella Eklöf's Holiday,...

The 42nd edition of the Goteborg Film Festival will open on a light note with Miia Tervo’s romantic comedy “Aurora,” which marks the Finnish director’s feature debut. Also set to compete in the Nordic and Audentia sections, “Aurora” marks Tervo’s follow up to her critically acclaimed documentary short, “Lumikko,” which was nominated at the European Film Awards in 2010.
The festival will close with “Swoon,” a fantasy-filled love story directed by Stein and Mårlind, the pair behind hit drama series “The Bridge,” “Midnight Sun” and “Shelter” with Julianne Moore. “Swoon” follows the impossible romance between Ninni and John, the young heirs of two rival families who own neighboring amusement parks.
Along with the launch of the Dragon Award for best acting, the Goteborg Film Festival will also host the Audentia Award, a prize created by Eurimages to honor the best female-directed film of the year. The Audentia Award...

Roswell, New Mexico is largely a carbon copy of the original, and full of faces you'll recognize.
This Roswell, New Mexico review contains spoilers.
Roswell, New Mexico Episode 1 Review
Roswell, New Mexico. It’s one of those places so iconic, so singularly famous for one specific thing that it doesn’t even warrant an explanation. Back in 1999, it was the show that launched the careers of Shiri Applebee, Katherine Heigl, Colin Hanks (not that he needed launching), and several other faces you know, even if their names are less familiar, like Nick Wechsler, Brendan Fehr, and Emilie de Ravin (Lost). And now, 20 years and a few changes later, it’s back.
Notably, Roswell, New Mexico isn’t a sequel to 1999’s Roswell. Even though everyone is roughly 10 years older, and the original show took place 10 years ago, these events--namely the inciting incidents of Liz’s death and revival and the...

It's a very Revenge wedding! Well, without the revenge part, thankfully. Emily VanCamp and Josh Bowman, who played couple Emily Thorne and Daniel Grayson on the ABC primetime soap a few years ago, got married for real this Saturday in the Bahamas, in front of family and friends, according to People and Us Weekly. The 32-year-old Canadian actress and 30-year-old British actor have been together for more than seven years and got engaged in May 2017. When E! News asked VanCamp in January if the two would wed this year, she remained coy. VanCamp's characters had married on Revenge as well (pictured above), although things did not...end well. In 2014,...

“Sister Act 3” is ramping up development, tapping “Insecure” co-executive producer Regina Hicks and “Star” showrunner Karin Gist to pen the sequel for Disney’s newly named streaming service, Disney+.
Plot details of “Sister Act 3” are being kept under wraps, but the original starred Whoopi Goldberg and centered on her Reno lounge singer, who goes into protective custody at a San Francisco convent and pretends to be a nun after a mob boss puts a hit on her. Goldberg has said she would cameo in this pic, but that a new cast would put a fresh spin on the original.
The 1992 film from Disney’s Touchstone Pictures also starred Maggie Smith and Harvey Keitel and earned $232 million worldwide.
This marks another major piece of IP that Disney has added to its streaming service as it continues to build up its TV and film slate. The service has already set a live-action “Lady and the Tramp,...

Lifetime has unveiled the premiere dates for their robust slate of winter movies. From music icons to deadly cheerleaders to the daughter of a notorious mob boss, the network isn’t holding back when it comes to the drama — some based on true stories, some not — for 2019.
Highlights of their slate include Love You to Death (January 26) starring Marcia Gay Harden, which is based on the true story of a mother and daughter who are nothing like they seem, their tumultuous relationship ending in a brutal murder. Also based on a true story is Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story (January 19) starring Christina Ricci. The movie is inspired by Nellie Bly’s undercover stay at the impenetrable Women’s Lunatic Asylum. For something a little lighter, there’s Olivia Newton-John: Hopelessly Devoted to You (February 16) which follows the personal and professional journey of the titular Grease icon. Lifetime...

As 2018 winds down, like most cinephiles, we’re looking to get our hands on the titles that may have slipped under the radar or simply gone unseen. With the proliferation of streaming options, it’s thankfully easier than ever to play catch-up for those films you missed in a theater (or never came to your town), and to assist with the process, we’re bringing you a rundown of the best titles of the year available to watch.
Curated from the Best Films of 2018 So Far list we published for the first half of the year, it also includes films we’ve enjoyed the past few months and some we’ve recently caught up on. This is far from a be-all, end-all year-end feature (that will come at the end of the year), but rather something that will hopefully be a helpful tool for readers to have a chance to seek out notable,...

Sometimes you land on the perfect TV show title (think Friends, Cheers, Revenge). Other times, you land on Cougar Town. Or worse, Shasta McNasty.
We here at TVLine have championed many a show with titles that simply don’t do them justice — titles so bad that they befuddle, irritate or potentially alienate viewers altogether. There have been good shows hurt by names both odd (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Terriers) and misrepresentative (Trophy Wife). Other shows are hurt by woefully generic monikers (Complications, Rise).

Blumhouse Productions founder Jason Blum stirred up controversy Wednesday when he claimed his studio hasn’t produced a theatrical release by a woman because there weren’t “a lot of female directors period, and even less who are inclined to do horror.” Many people took to Twitter to criticize Blum’s unqualified statement, with one user saying it took just one “quick Google search” to find the plethora of women at the helm of horror films. (Blum did say that he had tried to hire “The Babadook” director Jennifer Kent but she turned him down.)
Later that day, at the premiere for “Halloween,” which he produced, Blum apologized and said “Today was a great day for me because I learned a lot and because there are a lot of women out there that I’m going to meet as a result of today so I’m grateful for it.”

Dark days are heading to the town of Riverdale.
In fact, Riverdale Season 3 Episode 1 has already left our favorite characters feeling hopeless in their current predicaments. Between Archie's prison sentence and the strange supernatural arrivals, Riverdale isn't holding back any punches. And that's exactly what we want to see!
So long summer because evil is back in town just in time for junior year.
"Chapter Thirty-Six: Labor Day" captured the feeling of what made us fall in love with Riverdale in the first place.
On the surface, it had the picture-perfect 1950s charm of summer days by the lake and riding along in the jalopy with your best pals. But, hidden behind those toothy smiles, there was still that sinister eeriness emerging from the town's darkness. An equal balance of Happy Days meets Twin Peaks.
The Riverdale Season 3 premiere pulled us in, slowly building the anticipation to its heart-pounding climax.
