Before being adapted into an anime, Solo Leveling was one of the most popular manhwa. It was not until later in the manhwa the fans got to see the true story unfold. What began as a story of the weakest hunter soon turned out to be a fight between the Rulers and the Monarchs. But it was not always like that. The Absolute Being, or God, divided the forces of Light and Dark into eight pieces.
These became the Eight Rulers and Eight Monarchs. One of the fans delved into this matter and theorized that Sung Jinwoo is the result of God committing suicide. The Absolute Being set the purpose for the Rulers and the Monarchs, with the former protecting the universe and the latter wanting to destroy it. It led to a fight between the two factions.

Throughout the wide world of manga and anime, several storylines recur in many different series. The Jeju Island Arc from Solo Levelling and the Chimaera Ant Arc from Hunter × Hunter, have often been compared by fans, which is down to several reasons. With a gap of nearly ten years, Yoshihiro Togashi wrote Hunter X Hunter, a manga, while Chugong published Solo Leveling, a Korean webtoon.
Solo Leveling
Hunter x Hunter and Solo Leveling’s portrayal of strong explorers known as “Hunters” share many similarities, the creation of ant-like organisms that quickly grow into powerful, intelligent beings is the subject of both storylines, the two however differ in terms of the overall structure and depth of the plot.
Origin of the Species
The Chimaera arc is one of Hunter X Hunter’s most captivating stories. The initial appearance points of both species are the first resemblance between the two arcs.

Sung Jin Woo’s attempt to redeem his lost honor after being labeled mankind’s weakest hunter and going through one of the most life-changing, near-death experiences in its pursuit is what makes “Solo Leveling” so appealing to the masses. The future of "Star Wars" recently came into focus as Disney and Lucasfilm announced the movie that will welcome a galaxy far, far away back to the big screen. Oddly enough, it's going to be centered on the characters that have helped anchor "Star Wars" on the small screen since 2019. "The Mandalorian & Grogu" will be directed by Jon Favreau, with the film set to go into production in 2024. Indeed, it will be Mando and the one they call Baby Yoda who will help bring the franchise back to theaters after years away. One big question now looms very large: Will a TV show turned into a movie translate to meaningful box office dollars?
There are far too many unknowns right now to accurately predict this movie's commercial performance, but there are some key things we do know. For one, "The Mandalorian" has been extremely popular, with Pedra Pascal's Din Djarin...

The traditionally celebrity-heavy Toronto Film Festival has unveiled its list of Canada’s best indie films for 2023, which includes a host of first-time directors that have come to the fore as the Hollywood actors strike put local movies and talent front and center at TIFF last September.
Canadian filmmakers were able to grab the spotlight after SAG-AFTRA members barred from promoting studio or streamer projects allowed them to fill the vacuum on TIFF red carpets and at industry events.
New directors were also favorites of Toronto programmers as a shifting TIFF film market with few American celebrities in town also allowed the marquee festival to double down on finding new creative voices.
So here’s the top Canadian feature films of 2023, as decided by film pickers in Toronto.
1. BlackBerry
Matt Johnson’s drama about the meteoric rise of the world’s first smartphone, before its competitive collapse, bowed in Berlin.

Natalie Portman appeared on “Watch What Happens Live” to promote her buzzy Netflix drama “May December” and once again told “Star Wars” fans that she is more than open to reprising her role of Padmé Amidala on screen. Portman was just a teenager when she landed a leading role in George Lucas’ “Star Wars” prequel trilogy. Her first entry, “The Phantom Menace,” opened in 1999 when Portman was 18 years old.
Asked by host Andy Cohen what it was like meeting the British royal family at “The Phantom Menace” premiere (see photo below), Portman recalled: “I remember Prince Charles, he was then Prince Charles, asked me if I was in the originals. I was like, ‘No, I’m 18!’ But he was very friendly.”
Portman said “no one has asked” her about returning to the “Star Wars” franchise, but “I’m open to it.” She said working on the prequel trilogy was “amazing,...

In bigger picture terms, the major highlights of Ventana Sur were a masterclass by Cannes head Thierry Frémaux and an impromptu speech by San Sebastián director José Luis Rebordinos, heads of the most important film festivals in the world and Spanish-speaking world, supporting the continued existence of Incaa. There words came after Argentinian President elect Javier Milei had vowed on the campaign trail to shutter Argentina’s state-backed film-tv agency if voted into power.
In industry terms, never has Ventana Sur been this big, its final attendance numbers sky-rocketing to 4,300, some 30% up on 2022, beyond even the wildest expectations of organizers, Cannes Marché du Film and the Incaa.
Put that down in part to new sections – Shoot the Book, Fantasmática, and Show Shorts – and enlargement of other sections, such as El Principio del Film and Solo Series. Latin America seems to have a bottomless well of new talent. The biggest reason,...

Thanks to his recent appearance in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” Alden Ehrenreich is back in the spotlight five years after the biggest role of his career in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
While that galactic spin-off got mixed reviews and poor box office numbers, Ehrenreich says that looking back he doesn’t think he had enough experience yet to step into the shoes of Harrison Ford’s legendary smuggler.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 33-year-old Ehrenreich said he saw “Solo” as a “great platform in which I could do my own thing,” but realized after finishing the film that he didn’t have enough of a sense of who he was as an actor to properly play the character. There were even reports that Lucasfilm hired an acting coach to help Ehrenreich after the studio wasn’t impressed with his initial performance.

Indian director Suman Sen (Oscar-nominated short film “The Silent Echo”) is at the 2023 Taiwan Creative Content Fest with his in-development debut feature film “Solo” (aka “Solo”).
The film will center around a story about a mundane 62-year-old diabetic insurance worker, Biplab, who is tormented by everyday trivialities. Feeling frustrated and hopeless about the community he lives in, he begins to question the government’s choice to erect a massive statue. However, his fight with a police officer inadvertently triggers a collective movement among people who share similar discontentment with their society.
Set in Kolkata, the narrative is based on Sen’s father’s real experience during a municipal election. Sen was traumatized by seeing his 70-year-old father assaulted for standing up against a rigged election and then becoming the symbol of civic society.
“The incident left a lasting scar in my mind,” said Sen. “Our father’s generation has let us down in every way,...

Spanning 11 live-action feature films and six live-action TV shows (and counting), the “Star Wars” universe is ever-expanding. And starting with the very first installment, filmmaker George Lucas made clear to audiences that he was telling a saga out of order. “Episode IV: A New Hope” underlined there was both a past and a future beyond the 1977 film, and indeed this saga has moved forward and backward in time, telling a number of different kinds of stories in a galaxy far, far away.

“South Park” had one big, unexpected villain in its latest special: Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “Joining the Panderverse” even went as far as to blame the executive for “why Disney movies all suck now.” Spoilers ahead.
Before diving into the madness that is “South Park,” some background on Kennedy is helpful. The real-life executive became president of Lucasfilm after Disney acquired the company in 2012, handpicked by George Lucas. Kennedy has overseen the latest Star Wars films — including “The Force Awakens,” “Rogue One,” “The Last Jedi,” “Solo” and “The Rise of Skywalker” — all of the Star Wars series on Disney+ and the newest Indiana Jones movie, “Dial of Destiny.” She is not involved with Marvel or Disney’s non-Star Wars animated content, though that doesn’t seem to be the case in the universe of “South Park.”
At first blush, that may make her an odd choice as “South Park’s” latest boogeyman.

Black Bear’s management arm has signed award-winning Quebec director Sophie Dupuis for representation. Most recently, Dupuis’ third picture, “Solo,” premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the award for best Canadian film. The film, which was written and directed by Dupuis, stars fellow Black Bear client Théodore Pellerin. It is set in Montreal’s drag queen scene.
Critics embraced the film with SlashFilm calling it “a vibrant portrait of queer nightlife” and the Toronto Star praising the work as a “dexterous film that combines bold images with the quiet beat of a heart torn asunder two ways.”
Dupuis’ previous work, which also showcases her impactful storytelling and her focus on human complexity, has been widely lauded. Her feature film debut, the crime drama “Family First,” earned four Canadian Screen Awards. It was selected as Canada’s submission for best foreign language film at the 2018 Academy Awards.

Days after Blackpink member Jennie released her latest solo single, “You & Me,” she has decided to jazz it up. An updated version of the tune subtitled “Jazz ver.” removes the original’s squeaky synths, helium-pitched backup vocals, and handclaps in favor of twinkling piano, shimmying tambourine, and finger snaps. There’s even a Latin jazz flare to the rhythms that support her chorus, as she sings, “I love you and me dancing in the moonlight/Nobody can see it’s just you and me tonight.”

“American Fiction,” Cord Jefferson’s blistering satire of race and media, captured the Toronto International Film Festival’s people’s choice award, bolstering its Oscars chances.
TIFF’s people’s choice award is considered to be among the best predictors of eventual awards success, though the 2023 festival hosted a weaker lineup than most years due to the writers and actors strikes that saw some prominent contenders skip a Canadian premiere. In the past, winners of the prize such as “Green Book,” “12 Years a Slave” and “Nomadland” went on to be named best picture at the Academy Awards. “American Fiction” has won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, TIFF organizers announced at an awards brunch on Sunday.
The Orion/MGM film by first-time director Cord Jefferson is a barbed satire that stars Jeffrey Wright as a writer who, to his dismay, achieves enormous success after as a joke writing a book filled with what he feels are the worst and most pandering cliches of Black representation. In its review, TheWrap called the film “an outlandishly assured directorial debut, a beautifully modulated film that takes a great actor, Jeffrey Wright, and gives him a spectacular showcase.”
While the film did not come into the festival as one of its highest profile selections, it was an immediate sensation after its Friday night premiere at the Princess of Wales Theatre, drawing some of TIFF’s most positive reviews. It currently stands at 86% positive on Rotten Tomatoes...

Honestly, it must be awesome to be a high-level studio executive. You get to sit around all day long, rake in millions by delegating jobs to other people, and make all sorts of bank-breaking decisions at the drop of a hat -- like waffling back on forth endlessly over whether to make the next big slice of the IP pie into a movie or a streaming series. Well, the pendulum has apparently swung the other way, because we have a fresh, new update on Lucasfilm's "Lando" production.
Originally conceived as a spin-off movie, "Lando" would've ideally ridden on the coattails of 2018's "Solo: A Star Wars Story" prequel film and given Donald Glover an even greater chance to shine, especially since he was widely agreed to be one of the few highlights from that dud of a movie. Of course, once "Solo" bombed hard upon release, those plans subsequently...

Donald Glover is shifting gears with his planned Disney+ Lando series. The project is now being developed as a film for Lucasfilm, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Glover’s brother, Stephen Glover, was working on the project with Donald before the writers strike began in May, and during an appearance on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast posted Thursday, revealed the latest plans were to make a film. The project is on hold currently amid the dual writer and actors strike.
Donald Glover played Lando Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film was a box office bomb, but Glover earned a strong response for his work as the character — and in December 2020, Disney announced the series was in the works.
Justin Simien (Haunted Mansion) was initially tapped to develop series, but exited prior to Donald and Stephen Glover taking over writing duties. That was when the project morphed into a feature.

“Lando,” the upcoming Disney+ series that will star Donald Glover reprising his role as Lando Calrissian from 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” was recently revealed to be in development (after a soft announcement in 2020).

The art of drag provides the opportunity to find yourself. That may sound odd considering the objective is typically to make yourself look like somebody else, but that transformation has a magical way of discovering something within yourself you never ever knew was there. Few films understand the power of drag like Sophie Dupuis's "Solo," a radiant and intimate story of queer life and a celebration of the queer community's connection to the art of drag.

Toronto: “Humanist Vampire,” “Solo” Heat Up Market for Toronto’s Quebec Feature Slate
By Jennie Punter
Toronto has long been a go-to place for Quebec filmmakers to launch new work, connect directly to the U.S. marketplace and, by extension, propel their careers to the next level — Denis Villeneuve, Phillippe Falardeau and Jean-Marc Vallée, for example, premiered most of their early films here.
Many of this year’s bumper crop of mostly world-premiering Quebec titles explore less familiar corners of society — First Peoples and newcomer stories, the drag scene — and there are also fresh takes on romantic dramedy (Monia Chokri’s “The Nature of Love”), true-story-inspired WWII drama (Louise Archambault’s “Irena’s Vow”) and horror comedy.
Five of the festival’s eight Quebec features are directed by women. Sophie Dupuis, whose third film, the drag-scene character study “Solo,” told Variety that support from government funding agencies Telefilm and Sodec (Quebec...
