Warning: Spoilers
What we got here in slightly over five minutes is the music video for Madonna's "Ray of Light" from 1998, which means it has its 20th anniversary this year. The director is Swede Jonas Åkerlund, who is maybe the most legendary music video director of our time or at least a definite contender. His work here is probably among my preferred, but not favorite works by Madonna, who was around the age of 40 when this came out. It's a wild fun little clip that goes very well together with what we hear. Maybe on one or two occasions it goes a bitover the top, but otherwise it is walking the fine line successfully most of the time. Entertaining stuff that will get you in the mood to get the groove. Also the song is incredibly catchy I must say and it will probably stay in your ears for a while after checking it out. Best choice is here to not just listen to the record, but go for the music video instead. Nice to see it got a lot of well-deserved recognition at the VMAs and I can only shake my head if I see how quality stuff like this won back in the day briefly before the new millennium and see what is taking these awards home these days in recent years. Anyway lets not complain but enjoy the art of music making we got here. Closer to a ****/***** than a **/***** for sure, but you need to be in the mood for this one here. Best watched when happy and not sad or depressed. Not an uplifting song, but one that's gonna increase your happiness even.
