Catchy, but a bit pointless

"Borderline" is a Madonna song from 1984 directed by Mary Lambert, who worked with Madonna on other occasions and written by Keith Williams, for whom it was apparently the only occasion. Madonna herself was in her mid-20s still in this over 30-year-old video and the fact that she lost a newcomer award (to Eurythmics) shows us that this is from the time when she had her breakthrough. And it shows us how long the MTV VMAs already exist as this edition back then was their very first. Shame they have sucked so much recently. It's not a one-line song we have here in these under 4 minutes, but the chorus is certainly way more catchy and memorable than the rest of it all. Maybe Madonna wanted to provoke with the title and reference to a psychological disorder here, but the song really has nothing to do with it. All it says is that a guy's love makes a girl go crazy basically, so it is a very light song, also maybe a good choice for a karaoke bar, but none of the greatness Madonna reached during later stages of her career. The video looks very 80s what makes it a bit interesting, but there is not much beyond that either, certainly not story-wise. As a whole, it's enough if you listen to the song once or twice. No need to see the video.
