Excellent movie, very brave too to make a film like that in times like these

Warning: Spoilers
"Modern Educayshun" is an Australian 7-minute short film from 2015, so this one will soon have its 5th anniversary and it is the only effort as writer and director so far by actor Neel Kolhatkar and judging from the quality we got here I hope more will follow. This film is in almost its entirety set in a classroom. I will not go a whole lot into detail about what happens exactly, but I just want to say I felt this this film was a powerful statement against positive discrimination. I really enjoyed it. It is not those who succeed who are the smartest, the most gifted or the most talented, but it is those who are the less privileged. And those who are more qualified do not have to accept it, but they should want to accept it. And the two who belong to the group of prime antagonists do. It is really tough to get the film's message across by writing a few sentences here to be honest. I personally think it is really just the best choice if you go watch it for yourself. Depending on your views, this is a film you will either love or hate and I personally think that is almost always a good thing honestly to say about a movie. The actors did a fine job here. of course the way the characters were written helped them magnificently with going over the top without the impression that it did not feel right. There is also a little scene that can be called as something like a subplot about one character looking at another for too long (according to another) and this was a smart little statement on white knights and over-the-top emancipation, lets call it radical feminism already, even if the comment comes from a guy. For me eventually, it was close call between 3 and 4 stars out of 5, but this film needs to be supported as much as possible and I think like I wrote in the title of my review, it is also a daring idea and script and so I certainly go for the higher rating. I can imagine the filmmaker may have faced some troubles when it came to distributing this little gem. Says it all already that this really good work did not get any awards attention at all according to imdb. I can already see liberals wave their "Racism" signs. Huge thumbs up for "Modern Educayshun". Brilliant title too, who cares about spelling in the sense of facts, lets adjust it for the minorities. Highly recommended. Oh and by the way all the women in this film are very stunning and please don't tell me such a comment says anything whatsoever about their art or how I perceive it. That's what I call nonsense. People who say so are in fact the ones that keep discrimination alive.

Orwell Was Right
dmann-628495 November 2017
I think reviewers here (and many on YouTube) totally fail to understand Neel's sharp and witty short.

First, it's not meant to be "realistic", any more than 1984 or The Hunger Games are meant to be "realistic". It's a dystopian satire. Good satires make fun of extreme versions of real-world ideas and institutions. In fact, the 1+1=2 math problem is an obvious reference to Orwell.

Second, since he's attacking the extremes of identity politics today, not movements for racial and sexual equality and civil rights from the 1960s and 1970s, he would NOT be kicked out of Australia if political correctness ended. Comparing civil rights to political correctness is like comparing house cats to tigers: one is nice (though it has claws and meows a lot), one is a ferocious and dangerous beast. In fact, the tendencies that the video satirizes are potentially totalitarian in themselves.

A must viewing for college and university students across the Western world. It's funny that this video has only attracted three comments on IMDb, two of them in incomplete sentences and full of language errors: so much for clear, rational debate.

Your SJW Red-Pill, if you will
theunahime30 December 2017
It's a very compelling multilayered visual essay on the excesses of the modern left's dominion of the education space. The humor is particularly dark as it rests on the people watching to cringe on the most relevant SJW things that have happened in their life that correlate in the video. Were you ever accused of sexual harassment in the office for rejecting someone's sexual overtures? The situation rests on the fringes of the obscene hypocrisy of affirmative action and how it devalues one's achievement due educational handouts. Would you care to trust your open heart surgery to an affirmative action Doctor surgeon and risk greater chance of death? Hollowing out the prospective student's moral compass and judgement to make the word 'justice' a mockery in of itself for being applied to insensate items of insignificance, This is a must watch for all to watch out for the dystopian future waiting to happen which is being zealously ushered in by the mechavillian to sate their nihilistic boredom. Let this be a warning to all to not cede an inch where a mile is sought or the malevolent will be out for our 'pound of flesh'.

A Great Satire on Political Correctness
diego-leivamena24 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Modern Educayshun is about a teenage boy that comes to a school that puts Social disadvantage over effort. while the Overweight/Chinese/Mentally retarded gets the best score even though he did the worst work. the boy is given a 7/10 on his multiple-page effort heavy essay because he uses red markers(apparently red is offensive in some religions). among other things (the "answer" to 3*3 is Gender "equality") god i hate feminists.

at the end. they kill him in """""self-defense""""" and say it's illegal to fight back, then they shout "you may now die a noble social justice warrior" and the loop starts over.

The concept is sharp, the humor is polish, the cinematography is amazing.

i totally recommend this short.

maybe...

For a part of public - a warning. For other - a parody. Or example of dark humor. Or verdict about contemporary school. In fact, a story about political correctness . Its demons. Its sins. Its configuration under the pressure of media. All - so simple. And creepy. The temptation of the left to create a happy society. New directions in education. The desire to propose equality of chances. And the little hell who has as root the relativation. The student first ! That could be one of inspired sketches about near future.

An Honest Review
generationofswine21 December 2018
I caught this on the Youtube, after seeing some of his stand up, particularly the comparison of Sleeping Beauty to Bill Cosby, which was completely inappropriate and absolutely hysterical...

...and I am happy to say that it is just as dark and hysterical as most of the rest of his pieces.

And really that appeals to me, one of the reviewers here called it Orwellian I believe, and yes, it is darkly Orwellian...but it's also comedically Orwellian.

And, honestly, I think it does have a point. Dark humor has been shunned by the PC crowd as if they can't take a joke that is intentionally off color and disturbing for the sake of humor.

Even gallows humor seems to be under attack.

It is a political piece...but the main draw is that dark humor, which ruled a lot of the 90s, but seems to be frowned upon now.

Ultimately, I really think that, yeah, dark+humor=hysterical. Don't let the politics get in the way, it still entertains. Especially with the war on comedy as it is.

Dull and malicious
zhipengg28 August 2017
This is a total distortion of equal rights movement. It portraits the leftists to be fascist but in fact in Charlottesville it was the white supremacists who killed.

"Political correctness" can be inconvenient at times, but that is the price we must pay to build a better tomorrow. What if we just give up the notion of "political correctness"? Neel Kolhatkar, you will be driven outside of Australia and regret about what the film you have directed.

Amazing and really, really scary!
turnedgood25 April 2019
To get an idea of what this is all about, just Imagine what George Orwell would write, if he ever wrote 1984 volume 2...

And all that in a 7 min film!

Kudos Mr. Kolhatkar

Ridiculously delusional
encirkel10 October 2017
Supposedly this short film is a satirical critique of social justice entering the school system. However, it just comes off as hilariously unrealistic.

It is not grounded in reality in any shape or form. It seems the creator doesn't really understand social justice, and the theory behind a lot of it. Which actually explains a lot since people are afraid of what they don't understand, and this film comes off as a nightmare created by the mind of a sleeping "anti-sjw", it being completely distorted compared to real life.

A very intelligent film.
idolkosininoy29 July 2019
The first time I watched it, I didn't know how to feel. I thought, "Isn't this video attacking what we are fighting for nowadays?" It seemed to be making fun of equality, racism, and other political issues.

But no. I watched it again now, and all I could do is appreciate the beauty of this film. I hope everyone will understand the deep meaning of this film.

Rooted in real life (California, I am looking at you!)
jamshedarslan18 September 2019
The writer has a clear understanding of Western education system as envisioned by current Social Sciences discipline. In this worldview, truth does not matter; feeling matter. Only a delusional Westerners living in their bubble can believe in this. To the outsiders, who don't suffer from cultural/moral relativism, this is a warning for the West and to the rest of the world.
