Father Karl Streesemann is not amused to learn on the way, while their Trabi breaks down, that wife Kirsten lied about their 'ill' daughter Catrin to lure him to Lake Balton 'finally a proper holiday', ignoring it's also about Erik Waller, the Westerner who cuckolded him before escaping from the GDR and now wants to meet his daughter, unwilling to be shoved aside by his inconsistent ex after years of discrete phoning. Maja's Hungarian lover, hotel manager Tamás Szabo, agrees against better judgment to help her camping friend Timo attempt an escape over the Austrian border to wed his Westerner-in-disguise lover LIlian abroad. Catrin's 'decent' camping lover however learns about it and eagerly informs his StaSi contact, to trap the traitors, even blackmailing Karl into collaboration with the Stalinist state. Things go tragically wrong, worse for all of them then anyone expected.
