As part of an agreement struck in June, the Prince Estate and Sony’s Legacy Recordings today launched their first round of catalog digital releases with a set of 23 albums originally issued between 1995 and 2010.
The recordings, which include such popular albums as “The Gold Experience,” “3121” and “Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic” as well as a new 37-track compilation called “Prince Anthology 1995-2010,” had been largely unavailable for many years. All are now available across all major streaming services and digital service providers. Many of these albums are available for the first time for streaming and download, adding more than 300 songs to the artist’s online in-print catalogue.
The recordings date from the latter half of Prince career, in which the intensely prolific artist released as many as four albums a year, either through his own labels or via one-off deals with indies or major labels.

As Variety reported exclusively earlier this month, Prince’s estate and Sony Music Entertainment have inked an exclusive distribution agreement. The deal, officially announced today, includes 35 previously released album titles from the artist’s catalog — several of which are among the best-selling titles from his original 19-year stint on Warner Bros. Records. Those albums, which include “1999,” “Diamonds and Pearls,” “Sign O’ the Times” and nine others, will move over to Sony in 2021.
The Prince catalog covered under the new agreement will be distributed by Legacy Recordings, a division of Sme, with worldwide rights beginning immediately to 19 previously released album titles originally released between 1995 and 2010. The list of album titles includes “The Gold Experience” (1995), “Emancipation” (1996), “Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic” (1999), “The Rainbow Children” (2001) and “3121” (2006), as well as titles originally distributed by Sony including “Musicology” (2004) and “Planet Earth” (2007). The internet may be a useful everyday tool that we take for granted, but at its core, it has the power to be devastating and deadly. In the darkest reaches of the web are the most horrifying of possibilities, and even if you’ve never been a victim yourself, chances are you’ve at least heard some terrifying stories involving the deep web.
The upcoming Lrm-exclusive digital series, Dark/Web, will be tackling some of those possibilities. The single story will be told over the course of the eight-part series, but embedded into each of the episodes are bite-sized “segments” that act as mini-anthologies within the show.
It’s been a good while since we’ve had an update from Dark/Web, but when it rains it pours!
Last week, Variety announced a whole laundry-list of great talent that boarded the series, including Robert Davi, Hayley Marie Norman (Chris Rock...

“Hammering! That’s the word. That’s it!” Prince folds over in laughter and stamps his high-heel boots on the floor. Those heels, as it happens, are clear plastic, and lights twinkle within them. It’s a perfect metaphor for the electricity that seems to be coursing through the singer at the moment.
Prince is responding to a description of the torrid version of “D.M.S.R.”—a jam from 1999 touting the virtues of “dance, music, sex, romance”—that he and his backing band, the New Power Generation, unleashed...
